View Full Version : Why so few 1970s-era Eagles bootlegs?

Is my impression correct, that there are relatively few recordings available of shows from "back in the day"? I know of only ten - 10! - Eagles concerts from the classic era (or B.T., before Timothy) that are generally available.*

Compared to other classic bands I've followed, such as The Doors and Led Zeppelin (literally dozens of shows were recorded of each - and the Doors had a very short career!), classic Eagles shows are strangely rare. Why?

*Bootlegs I've seen on offer - not that I purchase such things, nor do I encourage or condone such activity:

NMB, found this on the site:

You may want to contact Soda for more info about the list. Check out the links at the bottom, too.

Me too. It's almost twice as many as I thought existed, but still a strangely low number.

The final song "Dream Baby" at the 3/16/73 London show - I wonder if that was the Roy Orbison tune? That would be really cool to hear.

The Wembley 1975 show would probably be my #1 choice though. Oh, for a time traveling machine...

Agree so much with the time machine. I'll take any show, though, except for July 31, 1980 at Long Beach. I know that they managed to keep their anger from showing (for the most part), but I don't think that I'd wanna be there knowing what happened afterwards.

I've seen some bootlegs floating about online, especially on the site that I bought Live in Dublin on, but I can't remember the site's name.

If you remember, PM me. Not because I intend to buy a bootleg, no. It's ahh... for research. Thanks.

If I was transported back to the 1980 Long Beach show, I would loiter about backstage and wait for Felder to smash his guitar. Then I'd grab a souvenir of said guitar and run.

Oh, I included those from the blog on my initial list. I didn't realize they were different from Soda's. Thanks, UtW!

I've got to figure out this .rar format or continue to live a life of frustration...

I remembered the site, and I sent you a pm. Can't say I blame you for wanting to grab a piece of "the cheapest guitar". It might be worth a few bucks today.

It would have been good to have bragging rights to being at their "last concert", at least for 13 years. I wonder if the onstage argument was visible to the audience - it certainly doesn't show in the bootleg audio.

(sorry, I forgot to check against the list in the first post)

Was the video of the 1980 show not generally available until HOTE?

The only theory/explanation I can come up with for the lack of Eagles bootlegs is kinda lame and potentially sexist: is it possibly because the majority of Eagles fans are women (debatable!), and women are generally not tapers/bootleggers?

That's the only reason I can come up with. Unless Irving or one of the security fellas was going around with a baseball bat at gigs, putting tapers out of commission.

It is the Orbison song and Glenn absolutely rocks it.

I'm not too keen about the old audio recordings but love the old videos. Any of 'em!

Did any of my fellow Americans see a smallish article in the news today that Glenn and Don H. (why not the Eagles corporatio as as a whole?) have settled with a Connecticut bootlegger named Shelley - that's his last name, I don't recall his first. Mr. Shelley had apparently rented out a mvie theatre and was going to show his collection to patrons, billing it as The Eagles On Tour, 1976.

I wonder what footage from which shows the gentleman has or had. That would be so wonderful to see. I surely hope Glenn and Don H will open the vaults at some time. Can't anyone convince them of the cultural value of doing so.

I saw it. I guess that I can understand why the Eagles don't want the old footage shown like that(I mean in that way), especially since it's not "legit". Us fans would love to seen more vintage footage. Surely Don and Glenn know this. Maybe they won't release anything because the quality of the video is not great?

My two cents

They want to control how they look and how they sound .
dh and gf have a thing for perfection

Years ago hubby bought meet and greet special tickets for me of another artist .
He refused to let my hubby take a pictire of me with him .

He said no pictures at all you might post one I look bad in

lol! I can understand that!

I'm betting he had the Houston 1976 and/or Seattle 1976 bootlegs.

There is also audio from a May 15, 1975 show in Springfield, Mass. (so mark that down if you're playing at home)
