Too bad I'm not going with my church to Michigan in June. I was going to go to Detroit for our annual church convention, but I didn't have the money to go. If i was going, I might had gone to Royal Oaks to see the sign, but than again. We were riding the bus to Southfield so I probably couldn't go there anyway.

I decided to pack my son and my
big dog into the car, rolled down the windows (it's cold as hell here today) and sang along with Glenn as we drove on Glenn Frey Drive ....it was strangely comforting!

As I said in another thread, this is a great way to honor Glenn's memory.

And OMM, you are lucky to be able to see that sign and drive down that street whenever you want to. Will you go to the unveiling ceremony next week. It would be great to see some pictures of this.

And I hope to go to see this one day as well. Maybe, in time, they will have a small memorial or a statue there as well.

Unfortunately, I doubt I will be able to go to the ceremony. It is scheduled at 5:30 and I will be at work on the other side of town!! So I took a drive before the ceremony and renaming, more private and meaningful. It was a nice way to pay my respects.

Sorry you won't be able to attend this, OMM. Maybe next time you drive down Glenn Frey Drive, you can take a picture of the sign and post it here for us.

I just finished watching the unveiling of Glenn Frey Drive. It was so bittersweet and a great tribute in his hometown.:( One of the guys from the band(party clip where he asked the band do you know Satisification? Well I can sing it or something like that) that Glenn talked about in the documentary was there.

Thanks for the heads up. I only caught the end of the interview with Bill* but hopefully they'll put that on their website along with the unveiling. There's nothing quite like hearing about a young Glenn and his high school band.

* I'm assuming it's Bill Barnes who was in The Subterraneans and The Mushrooms.

ETA: the video is there to be played over if you follow Shun's link. I've got to say, Bill Barnes looks pretty cool. And we learn that Glenn was exacting and high energy even then.

I just watched the vid and that's great they included the other speakers and hearing Bill's side of the "Satisfaction" story. I've seen pics now of the sign on the Detroit Free Press' Twitter accounts and retweeted one of them. Very cool hearing too how Glenn actually used to walk down that street to school every day and seeing his high school in the background. :)

Thanks for reviving this thread, shun. I am so grateful that Soda, GA, and myself made a trip to Royal Oak last spring to visit Glenn Frey Drive and other sites where Glenn grew up. We also attended a tribute show for Glenn and drove to Cleveland to visit the R&R HOF - it was a really nice, albeit bittersweet, weekend.
