That's pretty cool! "Don Felder's spine-tingling guitar work on the Eagles' Hotel California will be acknowledged with the Iconic Riff Award."

Congratulations, Don! I remember reading in his book about all the time and effort he put into practicing his guitar. He really honed his craft. It's great to see him get some recognition.

I thought it's for the intro arpeggio, not the guitar solos. I'm not sure anymore!

I'm honestly reluctant to post further negative comments about Felder but I can't believe I'm the only Eagles fan who thinks this award is highly questionable.

If I made made a list of notable Eagles guitar riffs, I'd probably include Victim Of Love, maybe even Disco Strangler or Don's bass riff for One Of These Nights but Hotel California wouldn't make the list. Great lyrics, chord progression and tempo but no guitar riff, and if the award is, in any way, for the closing (dual) guitar solo how can Felder except an award without Walsh.

The Nashville Muscians Hall of Fame would have retained more credibility if it had offered an award to Bernie Leadon. Felder credits himself as dragging the Eagles away from country music.

Any bets on Felder's next solo album being a country album?

Thanks for posting the link travlnman2, when I first read the headline, I didn't check it out, I thought Wilton Felder must be a country musician.

The Nashville Musicians Hall of Fame honors musicians from all genres, not just country. It hasn't been around that long (<10 years?) so maybe eventually Bernie will be recognized. However, I too, wondered about Joe not being included. Maybe in musical circles no one wants to antagonize Irving Azoff by having those 2 honored together.

I'm sure it will be made clearer at the awards ceremony.

Congratulations to Don F on this great honour! In an era of hyperbolically titled gongs (I read recently of an NME award called 'Godlike Genius Award'. Seriously, and it's been around for over 20 years!) I think 'Iconic Riff' is a fine description of the classic intro to such a classic song.

Has anyone been to or seen one of these award shows? Will Don be performing? Would it be worth a seven and a half hour drive? I've seen Henley solo (and Steurt by default lol), am going to see Timothy on sunday...would love to see Felder also!! Not forgetting, Joe, he's on my "must see" list also :)

I'm not familiar with this awards show myself. I did see a clip from 2014 that showed Peter Frampton playing his guitar, and he was one of the recipients. I don't know if that's typical.

I briefly considered the possibility of attending. It would be great to see Don get his award and perform, too!

Sorry, I didn't mean to confuse anyone. Should have communicated more precisely.

I guess Don F. could accept the award without Joe much like Don H, Joe, and Timothy can accept the Kennedy Homors without Don F, Bernie and Randy.

I can't remember anything Don said about the Kennedy Center Honors Award but I'm pretty sure he posted a link to the petition requesting, he, Randy and Bernie should be included in the event, on his twitter page. So I assume he agrees with it. (the petition, that is) :nope:

I don't think Joe will be be (publicly) bitter, unless he's offered a Nashville induction next year. I'm still waiting for Joe's 2015 Colorado induction to take place.

I thought it was for the beginning of the song, not the end.

I guess my opinion that the beginning is not a 'riff' in the strict sense is incorrect. To me a riff is short & straight to the point, like Smoke On The Water or Life In The Fast Lane (well, LITFL is a little longer but it is far more of a riff than the start of HC is).

It's a long drive...i live south of Detroit...but I'm in Nashville now to see Schmit at city winery, so it's definitely doable as long as he performs! Otherwise I'll wait and hope he comes somewhere closer

Tonight's the night Don gets inducted. :yay: According to the website, he will be performing with Peter Frampton. Too bad it won't be televised.

Well, personally I hear no riffs in HC. Chord progressions and licks, sure, but no riffs.

I'm not sure how literal the Hall of Fame is taking the term "riff" but it sounds better than The Iconic Chord Progression or The Iconic Lick Award.

Btw, here's some photos from last night's ceremony. A couple of Don's pics are scattered throughout but most are from 22-32, including one where he accepts the award from Peter Frampton.

I was trying to figure out who's on his shirt. It looks like U2.

Some great pictures. He performed with Kenny G. How cool.

Lol, me too, Shun. I thought one guy looked like Billy Idol and the other looked like Bono, kind of. Lots of talent on the stage, for sure.

Of course, but because there are no riffs in HC, it's hard to tell whether they are referring to the acoustic introduction, Don's iconic solo or Don's and Joe's harmonized work at the end of the song.

I think that's a U2 shirt. He wore it previously at one of his shows.
