View Full Version : The Grace of Love: The Don Felder Positivity Thread

This is a unique type of thread on this board. We've never had one like it. It's a special thread dedicated to nothing but positive comments.

Typically, we just let the chips fall where they may in discussions as long as none of the Terms of Service are violated, but because of some fan concerns, we thought we would try having one thread that is just for positivity.

This thread has one rule: Every post must be positive; nothing negative can be said about anybody in it.

Note that I said "nothing negative can be said about anybody", not just Felder. This is a thread designed to praise Felder, not to bash anyone else. One can praise Felder's immense talent and talk about one's favorite aspects of his music. One cannot be snide, sarcastic, passive aggressive, insulting, etc; one cannot stir the pot, make subtle jabs, make comments designed to upset others ... again, one cannot be negative.

Some may object to this thread, saying that not allowing negative comments in the thread stifles discussion. I understand that viewpoint, but there are lots of other threads to post in if you don't like the rule for this one. For this one thread, if we can all play nice and refrain from being negative about anyone, be it band members or other posters, then the thread will serve its purpose.

It is my hope that this thread is a success and fans can enjoy themselves without anyone becoming negative about anybody. I consider this an experiment. As long as it stays positive, it stays open.

Woo hoo!
Thank you so much Soda for taking the trouble to do this, especially when you have been feeling so poorly. You rock!

I am really hoping you didn't have an anaphylactic reaction or another serious side effect from the antibiotic you were,on. I consider myself a connoisseur when it comes to antibiotics after working in health care for what seems like forever and then being on several antibiotic cocktails for a year for Lyme disease and another tick borne illness( and had some lovely reactions :yuck: ), so feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Anyway, I am really so happy about this thread. I thank you again.

I like Visions, and it's too bad that there's no live footage of this song, as far as I can tell w/ a Google Search. If there was a One of These Nights Survivor, I'd vote in a way to save this song, even though it would be difficult to vote off 8 out of the 9 songs in that album. I haven't taken the time to listen to his solo work only because I haven't gotten around to it. I probably will soon. Woo, Felder!

I hope this is a positive enough post. The only part that would be slightly negative would be the "it would be difficult to vote off 8 out of the 9 songs [from OOTN.]" I mean, that has an implication, but you know, I tried to be honest in a positive way.

I like the thread title. I know it's a reference to one of Son's songs and it seems very apt.

I've been searching high and low for a live version of "visions" also with no luck :( i love that song--listen to it daily--but there has to be a video somewhere out there!! I've always thought it was unfair that EVERY other eagle, past and present, was given multiple chances to sing, but not Don F

Thank you for the thread where us Felder fans can post positive things about him without feeling (and sometimes being) attacked for our opinions!! I, for one, really appreciate it!!! Some Eagles fan pages make you feel almost ostracized for being a Felder fan, as if you cannot like him and the rest of the group. The two aren't mutually exclusive...he was a big part of the band. Again, thank you!!

Your best bet would be to write to Don Felder and beg him to play it live with his band. His performances often end up on youtube. As far as I can tell it's one of many songs that the Eagles never played live. It looks like "Too Many Hands", a Felder co-write from the same album got played on the "One of These Nights" tour.

Didn't Felder ask (on his Facebook page) his fans to pick one out of five or so songs for him to play live - and one of them was Visions? It seems he would be willing to play it if he felt enough people want to hear it. What happened with that? Which song was the most popular?

I would love it if he revived Visions!

Thank you, Soda!

Interesting about Visions--has he never performed it at one of his live shows? I would think he would have performed Too Many Hands. Those guitar solos are too good to let wither on the vine.

The Eagles definitely played Too Many Hands live on the One Of These Nights tour - I found this video (albeit audio only) from 1975 of the band performing TMH. Very good it is, too!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BxO9neWAAU

(In case anyone is wondering why the video is over 11 minutes long, it's simply that the recording of the song is played twice - the live performance is not double the length of the album version).

I think it's correct that the Eagles never played Visions live, I'm not aware of it ever being on any set list I've come across and although lesser known songs like this can occasionally slip through the net, I think anyone who was there to see it performed would probably have remembered that Don F had done a lead vocal. I agree it would be good if he started playing it in his shows.

Delilah

Thanks, JCL, that live version of TMH is killer. I think he should add it to his own live show; may someone in his band can sing lead since he didn't sing it originally, like he does with TITTL.

I wouldn't begin to know how to contact him...I couldn't help but notice that Felder (along with Schmit) don't mind people taking pics and shooting videos at their shows. The two Henley shows I saw this summer, ushers stopped every person they saw taking videos. And the few that snuck them, they were taken down from youtube almost immediately
And "too many hands" is another song I'd love to see live!!

I would love to see Don F play at a place like City Winery, a benefit, or a meet and greet. He seems very personable and I think it would be a blast.

My dream would be for Randy to feel better and join him on stage. I know it's unrealistic, but one can dream right?

I think tomorrow he is playing at a hospital benefit to raise money for construction and a rehabilitation center in CA. Out of all the hospitals I have worked at, even as a traveling nurse, they never did anything cool like this to raise funds.

if I remember correctly, Felder played city winery in nashville back in may. I just saw Schmit there last month, but seeing Don F in such an intimate setting would be killer!!! And the meet and greet would be well worth the extra $$$ (I know the meet and greet for his shows in Vegas with Styx in january are $400)

I found a picture somewhere of Don and Joe on stage and they both were on voice box, so it had to be visions. I need to go back and look for it again.

Loved the live audio of TMH. I wish it had video. I recently ran across live video of Seven Bridges Road, but I need to find that too. There's several live audios of that out there. He and some of the inductees joined together to sing SBR at the induction ceremony on the 26th, would love to hear that.

I love this thread, Soda!

While waiting for a definitive answer from someone who knows more...I think there is a version of the song on a live CD or a CD box set from the "resumption" era. 8-)

Stevie Nick's fine debut album, Bella Donna is about to get a, deluxe edition, re-release. It features my favourite Felder guitar contribution. It's a pretty basic arpeggio thing but it's perfect for the closing track, The Highwayman.

Henley shines on harmony vocals too :D

I'm can't remember for the life of me if I have the Highwayman downloaded with my other Stevie goodies (I have her songs not listed by album. Strange, I know).
Had no idea Felder was on that.

Thanks so much! Looking forward to listening to it :)

Don is in Tokyo now doing some benefits. He posted up some pics on his website of him with The Whole hotel staff, of his complimentary hotel room, the view from his room, scenes on the streets of Tokyo and a few shots on stage.

He is the only Eagle who is so shares what's going on with his fans, posts up pictures, responds to posts, messages and tweets. He really seems to love his fans and enjoy keeping them in the loop.

Everyone that's met him at a meet and greet says he is a truly nice guy.

It looks like once he's back in the States, he's taking a break from performing until Dec. 30, when he'll be in Michigan at the Four Winds Casino.

I agree he seems to really appreciate his fans. I hope he has a nice holiday rest.

Incidentally, here is the info for the Dec. 30 concert:

Now Don is part of the Rock Legends Cruise for the next couple of days. Does anyone know anything about it? It sounds like it would be a nice getaway as well as chance to see some cool performances with possible meet-and-greets.

He is sure staying busy. I'm so happy for him.

I was checking to see if he's on the Rock Legends cruise for 2018 and he isn't listed yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's signed up for next year soon. Those lovely photos he posted on Facebook made me wish I was there, too!
