Congratulations to Don who is racking up yet another honor! This time he has been selected for induction to his home state's Artists Hall of Fame. Way to go, Don!:applause:

Three musicians and a poet and author have been selected to join the Florida Artists Hall of Fame, Secretary of State Ken Detzner said Thursday.

The artists, who will be inducted into the hall of fame in February, are country-music singer Billy Dean, a Quincy native; Eagles rock-band member Don Felder, a Gainesville native; musician and comedian Jim Stafford, who is from Winter Haven; and poet and children's author Lee Bennett Hopkins, who lives in Cape Coral.

That's one way to get him back home for a visit :-) Congratulations, Mr. Felder.

Do they only honor living artists? Jim Morrison was born in Melbourne and attended FSU in Tallahassee, also junior college in St. Pete. Of course, his downfall was in Miami.

NMB, this is from The Gainesville Sun reporting about the Artists HOF and Don in particular:

Established by the Florida Legislature in 1986, the hall recognizes people, living or dead, who have made significant contributions to the arts in Florida either as performing or practicing artists, according to information provided by the Florida Department of State. In a written statement, Detzner said the men have contributed to Florida's national and international reputation for cultural excellence.

Don's induction takes place tonight. Way to go, Don!

Born in Gainesville in 1947 and raised in the northwest Pine Park neighborhood, Felder said he was flabbergasted when he received news of his induction.

"I'm humbled by this magnanimous honor," he said. "It was quite a surprise. To return to Gainesville to receive this award is a great feeling."

When Felder returns to his hometown this week, he will spend time with family and explore the ever-transforming city. Some of his old haunts, like Gainesville High School, remain standing, while Lipham Music at 1004 N. Main St. is nothing but a memory.
