WOW. Randy is finally getting to get some happiness in his life. Great to see him and Joe together. Its a shame that bad things happen to good people. The past 3 years really have taken a toll on this poor man.

I teared up a little seeing Randy and Joe together. I wonder how Joe introduced Take It To The Limit. Off topic but I had a chuckle at that photo of Ringo doing his peace sign and Joe giving the finger :-D

Joe and Randy back together!

:spin::spin:

It's just fabulous. I'm delighted

To borrow a line from Glenn, such a fine sight to see. The past few years haven't been kind to Randy (and not to sound harsh, but he does look slightly frail and older than he is) but it's wonderful to see him hanging out with an old friend and hopefully getting back out there again.

Friday night apparently - May 19th.

Tequila, those photos are lovely. Are they from Joe's web site?

I hope Randy gets strong enough (if he keeps drinking his milk) that he and Joe can reprise their Houston '76 stage entrance riding on invisible ponies. I think it was an homage to Monty Python's Holy Grail.

Congratulations to Delilah!

You're funny, NMB.

I'm wondering about the "drink your milk" comment. Does anyone know if that was part of a commercial from The Roy Rogers show or something like that? Is that what Joe was quoting from ("Howdy partner", "Hello there, pilgrim"). Maybe Joe was doing a John Wayne impression. I can't recall if John Wayne did one of those "Got milk?" ads.

And thanks for the congrats everyone!

NightMistBlue
05-23-2017, 02:29 PM
Joe was doing a John Wayne impression because Randy said "Howdy," like the Western boy he is :)

I interpreted "you better drink your milk" as meaning Joe sounded weak compared to John Wayne, and he better build up his strength.

That's just my interpretation though. What did other Borderers think?

OK, I learned something today. "Get off your horse and drink your milk" is a famous quote attributed to John Wayne. However! At least one person claims that Wayne never said it and that it came from a comic doing a John Wayne impression.

Either way, that's a very agile comeback! Way to go, Randy.

Thanks for posting the pic, Dawn. Good size too! :-) I'm so pleased to see Randy up and about.

A few years ago, I read a post that appeared to be from Randy's wife. I was under the impression that Randy was under his wife's thumb, so, in the knowledge that she was visiting this message board, I made a concerted effort to get Randy out of reclusion.

I'm not claiming credit but I'm just so delighted that it has actually happened, although at a colossal cost.

The caption for the Meisner, Young photo reads;

We just got back from LA meetings with the record label- BluElan. To top off a great trip, we met up with Randy Meisner. We've been friends since 1966. He sends his Love to all of you.

I presume the 'we' means Rusty and Jim Messina.

http://allaccessgroup.com/radio/jim-messina-musician-songwriter-singer-guitarist-recording-engineer-and-record-producer/

After a series of acclaimed solo acoustic tours, Messina has now formed a dynamic new band, featuring Poco alum Rusty Young, which is touring through 2017 with shows all over the country.

Maybe Jim took the photo

Chaim, there is indeed a 20-second video of Joe and Randy riding their invisible ponies onto the stage in Houston, November 1976. If only I knew how to link or post it here. It's on a closed (members only) Facebook page, so I can't just link to it.

Or you can just watch the whole concert. It's a good one. Joe and Randy are wearing matching Criteria Recording Studios t-shirts. Too cute, those two.

That's correct, they were coming out for the encore.

Chaim, you have to go to the dark side of the street (so to speak) and get the bootleg video of the Houston concert. It's often misdated "1977" but it's actually November 1976.

If an Eagles Ltd. attorney is reading this, I was of course speaking metaphorically. Please tell Mr. Azoff they need to open the vaults. Ya'll could make a mint by cleaning up the footage and audio for an official release.

Chaim - I've seen the video of Randy and Joe from the Houston Concert. It comes back on you tube occasionally - just keep checking. I know there is a boot leg dvd of the whole Houston concert. I saw it for sale on Amazon awhile ago. Not sure if they still have it.
Amen to Irving opening the vaults. I would love to see more dvd's like the Capital Center one. I'll bet anything they have other footage from concerts in vaults. They claimed for years they did not have anything and low and behold we get the one from the DC concert. Come on Irving - open those vaults !

So nice to see Randy out and about. He seems to look happy. Hope he has found peace and happiness this past year, he sure deserves it.

A man who attended last night's Classic concert posted on Eagles Fastlane that Randy was there. The fellow saw security leading Randy down onto the field then they went to a kind of underground (did he mean under the stage?) passage that he assumed went backstage. This gentleman reported that the Randstar "looked old but was walking fine." OK then. Let's hope for photos. We always do :)

If you're looking for the post, it's under the group shot where they're standing together onstage. The witness, Edward, when asked if Randy sang, said "Sadly, he did not appear on-stage. He still looked old and frail, but compared to recent videos of him, he seemed very 'with it' and alert. It was such a trip to see him. Nobody else recognized him though."

P.S. Did ya'll see the clip of last night's performance of "Take It to the Limit"? Some people think Vince said, "This is for Randy." To my ears, it sounds like Mr. Henley speaking, but it's not entirely clear what he said - the last word did sound like Randy.

NMB - I saw that this morning. I also had a hard time as to whether it was Don or Vince who said that. It sounded like "This is for you Randy" to me too.
I think the guy on FB meant that Randy was escorted back stage. He also stated that Randy was given a special seat in the front. So happy Randy was able to be there and get the nice acknowledgement he deserves.

I re-watched the video and it was Don. If you noticed in one of the video clips, you can see Don leaning toward the mike. Vince was away from the mike when that line was said. Vince has a high voice and that person's voice was deeper like Don has. Nobody else was by their mikes.

I was heart-broken to find out on Sunday morning after Classic West that Randy was indeed at the concert and that I missed him.
Although from where I was sitting I would not have been able to see him anyway.

I was absolutely thrilled when I saw video of Vince singing TITTL and Don H.'s dedication to Randy. I did not actually hear it live because I was saying it to myself at that same time and did have a few tears rolling... That was the next best thing I was praying for after seeing Randy in person of course. It means so much coming from Henley himself.

Wonderful, ETG! Did you get to visit any Eagles-related sites? I hope you had buckets o' fun, regardless.

We did; we saw the Troubadour and Dan Tana's, but they were both closed at the time and we did not get to go inside, drat... We did take pictures of the inside of the Troubadour through the windows (glass and bars, hehe) of the Eagles memorabilia on the front wall along with some other bands/singers pictures. The only time we would have been able to go inside was Friday night and my daughter had tickets to see some bands perform at the Whisky a Go Go, so we went there instead.

Also, The Beverly Hills Hotel, has gone through some foliage changes over the years and we could not quite get the right angle to match the Hotel California album cover. There seems to be an extra palm tree there now.

And of course, Sunset Grill has gone through some changes as well.

I did expound to the family the significance of each site in relation to the Eagles, in which they knew part of the history.

And just so you know, you can not get a good picture of the Hollywood sign without a helicopter and a big fancy camera/lens.

But we did have a wonderful time! Sorry to go OT in this thread.

Thank you NMB, that is so sweet of you to say! We saw several bands there, but the one we were there to see was Last in Line which features guitarist Vivian Campbell of Def Leppard and other former Dio members. My daughter was so excited Vivian gave her a guitar pick (made her trip)! You are definitely correct in saying a "rough" crowd, it was. If she didn't already have tickets, I would have nixed it.

I'm jealous of this picture...we drove all around and searched directions for a shot like this.
NMB, I didn't realize you had visited LA or maybe you live there, I would have picked your brain before we left.

ETG, that's too bad The Troubadour was closed but Whiskey a Go Go sounds really cool. Lots of history there too-that's where Buffalo Springfield made a name for itself, so there's an Eagles connection.

Vivian Campbell is a talented guitarist. Someday, I'll shore up my courage and venture inside the Whisky.

I've been to California a few times. I love to swim and hike and there are a lot of wonderfully detailed resources online for that (and anything else people like to do).

These trails look fun! Tuck them away for your next trip maybe :)

I was thinking on what I said about the Whisky last night and I do not mean to put it in a bad light....the crowd I was speaking of was rough to me, as in it had a more heavy metal vibe to it and it was just not my thing. Please accept my apologies.

Oh there's no need to apologize surely - what you said was helpful, not offensive. None of the club patrons bothered you, right? We all understand being in a setting where you don't feel entirely comfortable.

As I've mentioned in other threads, I'm a huge Doors fan and it bothers me a bit that I haven't been able to work up the nerve to go inside the Whisky. I felt intimidated about the Troubadour too. I imagined it to be this "hipper than thou" place where the people would be able to spot an awkward rube from out of town. But no!! It was actually friendly and nice. The bench seating reminded me of summer camp.

Good to know; it was definitely not my intent to put anyone off of visiting the Whisky. And no, no patrons bothered us at all. It was just a lot for this small town, farm girl to take, I'm sure in my younger years it would be different.

NMB, you got a fantastic picture of the Hollywood sign! Poor Dreamer drove me all around in January trying to get closer to it and my pic was not near as good as that one! We were at an observatory but can't remember if it was the Griffeth one or not!

ETG, the Troubadour did not have a very savory group performing (jmo!) the night we were there either, but I loved going in and seeing the exact spots where Glenn and Don sat. Just had to buy a t-shirt too. No one bothered us though. And the smell of pot was heavy in the air outside when we left! I also noticed that about not being able to see the Beverly Hills Hotel like we see it on the album cover! Oh well, we saw it!

Anyway, everything I got to see was wonderful! I don't know how many times we went up and down the Sunset Strip! And Dreamer was a fantastic tour guide after the other girls left!

Brooke, I am with you on trying to find the right area to get a good picture of the Hollywood sign, you could exhaust a whole tank of gas trying to find the right place. I would have loved to go inside the Troubadour and see everything, I will have to settle on peering through the windows. At least I could see the front portion and the bar stools. I have to say with my nose pressed against the glass there was a heavy odor, but it was not pot. :yuck:
We traveled Sunset Strip numerous times as well. I would love to go back with other fans and see LA with a much better tour guide than me, my knowledge is limited compared to other borders. ;)

No, not that I found :) I thought it was a spacious place, compared to my 800 sq ft condo. There was a kitchen, dining area, an extra room with a day bed, 1 1/2 bathrooms, good-sized bedroom with plenty of closet space and a more than adequate living room. I loved the steps leading up to the apartment, each step front had lovely Mexican tile. Was a bit sad to learn that the owner broke those up and sold them on Ebay.

The arched entryways to each room were very nice - wish we had more of those in Florida but it's just not a "thing" here!

The band was playing on Lankershim Blvd in North Hollywood, close to Randy's 'hood, maybe that's why he went.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Peter Cetera's brother Tim was in The Long Run fairly recently, but I don't think he's with them now. And I can't find him on Facebook anymore. Maybe Shun knows.

EDIT: I got my Cetera brothers mixed up, it was Kenny Cetera who was in The Long Run. He posted a message on November 9 that explains he's parted ways with the group and is looking for "new projects with more creative opportunity and amenable business practices." Ouch!

I remembered reading on Peter's Instagram he was wishing his brother good luck with his Eagles tribute show. I didn't know it was that same group, but I'm guessing Kenny was gone by the time Randy was at one of the shows. Is that what I'm reading correctly?

Delilah
11-15-2017, 12:24 PM
Yes, Shun, that’s how I’m reading it. Kenny left right before Randy attended their show. Funny he made that comment. I didn’t know about Kenny or that there was a 3rd brother who was a musician too.

shunlvswx
11-15-2017, 12:29 PM
Yeah. Kenny maybe the baby. I could be wrong. Peter has four other siblings from what I read.

Kenny looks just like Peter, but Kenny is the opposite. He's a brunette with brown eyes while Peter is a blonde with whatever color his eyes are. LOL

That picture I was talking about did happen this month. So that must had been his last show Peter was talking about. I didn't even know Kenny was in an Eagles tribute band. I knew he did a tribute show to Chicago and his brother's music, but I didn't know about the Eagles.

Back to Randy. I guess he left at the wrong time.

There's also a Randy connection to the third Cetera brother, Tim. He was one of the guys who replaced Randy on bass in the Stone Canyon Band. When I was looking for Tim's Facebook page, I came across a photo of him on Rolene Brumley's page, and she was asking Stephen Love (another Randy friend, roommate and bandmate) if it was Tim Cetera.

I'm telling you, Randy is the Kevin Bacon of rock - he's worked with and/or knows almost everyone.

Aw, that’s so sweet of Peter to post that. I’ve seen that video on YT. Tim seems kind of nervous and unsure of himself. And his backing vocal definitely has a different sound than Randy’s.

In one picture (there are two), he is playing a red Hagstrom bass! It's so wonderful to see him with a bass in his hands again, especially that instrument which is of course iconic to him.

Randy has been through so much and has come through the fire so to speak. It speaks volumes about his strength and character that he's still a kind man who appreciates his fans and well-wishers.

If I can figure out this Imgur thing, I'll try to post an image of the card.

Sweet Randy attended the NAMM convention in Anaheim this weekend. A fan got a photo with him on Saturday. The Meis looked healthy and dashing in a scarf with a keyboard design. :inlove:

That's awesome, it is wonderful to hear news like this!! I would love to see the picture. Was it someone you know, NMB?

I think it would be OK to include a link to the photo on the guy's Instagram account, no? It's a public account and the young gentleman who posted it is a musician so he probably wouldn't mind the attention:

It's apparent that, whatever has changed about Randy's life in the recent past, his physical and mental health have benefited. I know that he had the throat issue since the documentary, but Randy sure has seem lost som weight since the HOTE. I know he had his struggles since then so I’m Sure wasn’t that was a happy time but I think at least now he looks really good considering all he’s been through. If only he could have been part of the HOTE tour :(

It's an amazing comeback, to be sure. I'm noticing this topic is reaching 20 pages. A few years ago, that would have seemed very unlikely. There has been a resurgence of interest in and appreciation for The Meis, perhaps beginning with the History of the Eagles five years ago.

A few months late but :censored: it.

The NAAM show is a VERY PRESTIGIOUS Convention for Musicians and Builders. Only Musicians with record deals or very popular bands like Eagles and GNR etc are allowed in with Developers because it's a business thing no tickets ever go on sale.

The fact that Randy was there is a BIG DEAL.

Yup. NAAM is where the Industry has it's "secret cult" meeting where all new and exciting gear is talked about and demoed for the new year. You only get in if you are someone well known or a developer.

Here is some info

"The NAMM Show is the definitive platform for the music, sound and event technology communities to unite with the mission of strengthening the music products industry and promoting the pleasures and benefits of making music. Held in Anaheim every January, The NAMM Show offers the latest products from more than 7,000 brands, cutting edge industry education across hundreds of sessions, as well as special events, concerts and experiences where "only at NAMM" moments take place."

Here is how you get in

"Attendance at NAMM trade shows is restricted to owners, suppliers, employees, endorsed artists and guests of NAMM member companies. NAMM's membership is comprised of companies that make, buy and/or sell musical instruments and products. If your company meets this requirement, we invite you to visit our membership page to start the process of becoming a member of NAMM.

Once your company has been approved for membership, you may create an account on www.namm.org and use The NAMM Show section to register for housing, booth space and badges, as well as read about scheduled NAMM Show events"

Thank you, Trvlnman, I had no idea that it was so exclusive. I saw on the ticket application where you had to state what line of work you're in, but heck I assumed one could claim to be a self-employed music industry consultant and who's gonna tell me I ain't?

My consulting practice consists of muttering "talentless idiot" and/or sneering when annoying rap or pop is playing in my presence.

I don't have any info about this photo beyond that it is supposedly a Facebook post from a fan named Tyson who had the epic good fortune to run into Randy at a restaurant in August 2018. The person who shared it (who doesn't know Tyson at all, she says) supposedly found it on Facebook via a Google search. She didn't want to share the particulars about where or how she got it, for reasons known only to herself. Me and a friend searched every way we know how but couldn't find the young man's post on FB. Irregardless!! [I know that's not a word but it feels good to say it] This is the most recent Randoll pic I'm aware of, and for that [bows head] I am truly grateful. He's a ray of Nebraska sunshine, ain't he? Long may his light shine.

WKMB55
09-30-2018, 11:10 PM
I wondered that, too. I haven't followed the feedback of the band's decision from others in the music profession very closely. In my opinion it seems like most musicians don't comment about their personal views if any band decides to continue after the death or firing of a member. I am probably reading too much into it, but when fans and well known individuals attend a concert I see that as confirmation that they approve of the situation.🤔

sodascouts
09-30-2018, 11:17 PM
I was just wondering if he went backstage to chat with his old bandmates. I wasn't trying to divine whether or not he approved of anything. I don't see much benefit to that kind of speculation. If he wants to share his views publicly, fine. If not, then I respect that, too.

If he did go backstage, we might hear something, see a photo, maybe. That would be nice.
