Saw on Eagles.com this morning, 4 dates listed
Oct 17, Greensboro
Oct 20, Atlanta
Oct 24, Louisville
Oct 27, Detroit

I wonder if we'll see dates added???

We've been talking about it a bit in the 3.0 thread but I totally think there will be more dates added just not till the sometime in the New Year as they usually take the holidays off.

They probably going to have more dates next year. Both Timothy and Vince have shows in November and December.

I'm going to wait until next year and see if they will come to New Orleans or Memphis. I can't make Atlanta. Too bad my cousin moved back home to Mississippi last year. I would had stayed with her.

I'm praying for success with these dates because I hate the negativity after these dates came up.

I'm really hoping for Knoxville next year. They have hit Knoxville fairly frequently in the past. I have seen them twice there.
I had hoped to maybe do Atlanta or Louisville, but that's a long drive, and these dates fall very close to my family's vacation and a Casting Crowns Concert...so I'll cross my fingers and wait.

They probably will do a Texas date next year since that's Don's territory.

I want them to come to Connecticut

I think that not even Eagles know what they'll do next. It looks as if they are taking things step by step. I guess that they'll add shows depending on how the currently scheduled shows go, and whether or not it feels right to them.

"An Evening With the Eagles" is a low key title for the mini-tour series. Compared to, e.g., 'Hell Freezes Over' or "History of the Eagles', it's fairly low key. It looks like a progression from being one band among quite a few, to one band among two, to these solo shows.

I'd say a lot of this has to do with image, and the band's legacy (I know, some are saying that this lineup does damage to that), but I think it's smart only announcing a few shows. If these 4 shows sell very well, (meaning mostly sellouts) I think they'll add a few more. Maybe if they all sell out very fast, you'll see a large scale announcement with 15 or 20 dates. If the sales are sluggish, and not much buzz, they may just do a show here and there, and quietly call it quits. Nothing at this point would be worse for the band than to announce a 30 city arena tour, and then end up with shows that are half full.

Bill, I agree with you. It's very common for an act to announce one show at a venue but leave room to add a second or third if it sells well. When Eagles played in the UK in 2014, there was a break of about a week in the middle and my guess is that they allowed for additional shows in London if there was sufficient demand.

It's not just reputation, although I'm sure having a sold-out show is good for that. It's the basic economics of supply and demand. If supply exceeds demand, either the tickets don't sell or they have to reduce ticket price to a level where they sell. At some point, they lose money. And obviously, it costs more to put on two half-full shows than one full one.

The other variable is venue size. I have no doubt they could sell out any number of 3,000 seater venues but 20,000 is more of a challenge. If they went for smaller venues, they'd have to reduce costs.

I'll be interesdted to see if there are fewer backing musicians for the mini-tour than for the "Classic" shows.

Thank you everybody for being positive in this thread. I get so tired of hearing the same ole same ole. Thank you.

I myself really hope this is a successful mini tour. SO many people want them to fail and laugh in their face when they do fail and its sad. I think they will sell out. I'm really not surprised they added more dates. Joe and Don said they will probably do more dates even if this is just 4 dates. Plus they didn't say if it was this year or next year. They said they will do more. So I don't know why it was a surprised to some. These dates will add up to 7 for the year.

I don't think their will be more dates for the rest of the year. Both Timothy and Vince have dates in November and December. I see more coming next year.

Like I said earlier. I can't go to Atlanta, but I'm hoping they will come to either Memphis or New Orleans (they are only 3 hours away from me) next year because I know their will be more dates next year.

I agree, Shun. It's good to see positive comments. I know others who don't agree with this try not to be too negative, but I can "hear" the sarcasm in their comments. Is this the "true" Eagles? No, but it's good in its own way. I'm so glad I got to go to NY to see them, and I'm hoping they'll be successful and add a date in New England in the not too distant future!

I hope so too. Right now, I'm saving for my 20th high school class reunion and we are going on a cruise next year in July. So until I pay off my balance, I won't be going anywhere for the rest of the year. Plus I can't save up enough money to go to Atlanta in October at this moment. The ticket price is not the problem. Its saving for hotel and gas since I would drive there. That's why I'm waiting until next year. New Orleans and Memphis are doable since I can easily just drive back home after the concert. I done that many times when I head to Mississippi gulf coast to see a concert at a casino since its a three hour drive(its seems like all the major cities is 3 hours from where I live. It sucks being in the middle of the state sometimes). I might even go to a show in Missouri if they go that route too.

I don't know if I would drive back to Texas. I love Don and the Eagles, but I'm not driving back to Texas again, but I do want to see Caddo Lake one day. So I might go there and Linden again.

Shun - As you know I do not agree with this.
However, I truly hope they add more shows so that you and everyone else who wants to can go see the guys. I agree that more shows will probably not be added until next year, which will give people more time to save up to purchase the tickets.

Shun - Have a wonderful time on your cruise next year ! Where are you going ? What a fun way to celebrate your 20 year reunion !

Personally I find it interesting how the Eagles are identifying/billing themselves in relation to the upcoming "An Evening with the Eagles" Fall 2017 Concerts.

"The Eagles - Don Henley, Joe Walsh & Timothy B Schmit with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey".

Re: Concerts in smaller venues located in key regions/markets across the country - I expect this could/would be the way they want to go from here on out though I wouldn't be surprised if they (co)headline a major summer festival in 2018 as well as announce an overseas series of concerts.

Second, it appears to me they are in this for the long run and will continue to perform with this lineup as long as Vince Gill is onboard and of course Glenn's son, Deacon.

New Kid In Town

Dawn - As you said interesting. So, I guess that means Vince and Deacon are not "true" members of the Eagles. Either that or they simply not billing them as members.:headscratch:

It makes me wonder if Don and/or Irving have listened to some of the backlash on the internet...it certainly seemed like they were billing Vince and Deacon as members of the Eagles before. Like they are hoping to draw some of the people who were opposed to this, as if to say, ok, they're not Eagles, will you buy tickets now. I'm sure I'm reading too much into this; I'm sure they don't have time or the inclination to read what people say on the internet.

New Kid In Town
08-15-2017, 12:57 PM
Groupie - NEVER underestimate Don or Irving on anything. They know exactly what they are doing and probably have assistants searching social media for fans opinions and have heard the back lash. Because I "liked" the Eagles as part of my FB thingy, the concert keeps coming up on my page. Many people are calling it a money grab.

I noticed that too with Deacon and Vince getting billed more as guests this time. I too hope they will add more in in the New Year and that way I can see them all together (unlike how I have seen Don & Joe this past year solo). Of course I still wish I got to when Glenn was still here, but we don't know how much longer Don, Joe, and Timothy will be so it's a bit of a you have to now or you never will with me and my family.

We are going to Cozumel leaving out of New Orleans. This will be my first time going on a cruise. I wanted to do a cruise for my 40th Birthday in 3 years, but I guess this will be close.

Very cool ! I went to Cancun with a friend in 1999. The beaches were beautiful and the people were very friendly. I also loved the Myan ruins. I only cruised once. There is a lot to do on the ship. Bring tons of suntan lotion - it is really hot there and I went in February.
One of these day I hope to get to N.O.

I came across this blurb about the Greensboro show but what interested me was the run-down of some of the reviews of the Classic concerts. I hope it's ok to post it here.

The Eagles recent July concerts were met with critical acclaim, with media observers lauding the performances:

“…as expected, musically it was almost perfect throughout the night.” - Forbes

“…impeccable harmonies and musicianship all night long…” – Elmore Magazine

“The Eagles concert at Citi Field Saturday was so poignant and well-executed…” - Newsday

“…the powerful performance felt like a proper celebration of Frey and the legacy of one of the most successful bands of all time.” – Time Out

“The Eagles understand that getting fans to fall in love with a band …requires songs that make listeners believe they belong too.” – Los Angeles Times

Delilah
08-18-2017, 10:54 AM
Probably, UTW. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like ticket prices are lower, on average, than they have been on previous tours. I'm just guessing that from what I've read on the internet b/c I've never been myself. That would draw more casual fans in who otherwise balked at the higher prices in the past. There could be some Vince Gill fans too who may not be that particularly interested in the Eagles but are willing to see him in any event.

I would drive to Louisiana too. I forgot about Shreveport. Both Shreveport and New Orleans are three hours away from me Shreveport is sad place for the guys since that was their last public show with Glenn. I wish I had went to that Shreveport show, but I just couldn't.

I came across a 1976 photo of Randy that had a caption saying it was from a concert billed as "An Evening with the Eagles." That makes me think this is not a new way of advertising the band - they were using it 40+ years ago.

Intriguing, no? I haven't seen the band billed that way on old ticket stubs (not that I've seen many o' those).

BillBailey1976
08-19-2017, 07:15 AM
I have seen that before with other groups. I saw Casting Crowns a few years back and it was billed "An Evening With Casting Crowns".

It seems that it's a way to differentiate when a band is not touring in promotion of an album, or in the Eagles case recently, a documentary.

If we are being honest ... the line of people who stand to profit from Eagles concerts, recordings, merchandise, radio, Opry, etc is very long. Anyone care to guess how much money the band will make from this tour alone?

I don't get why it's ok to claim non band supporters should be happy and not complain but to answer the question the Eagles are in the business of making money this is not a Glenn Frey tribute tour no matter how much Deacon looks like his dad or Vince Gill tries to sound like him. The Eagles have been on tour since this summer when they co~headlined the Classic East/West. Now its fall and they have 5 concerts booked before presumably taking a break. I would just.like to see it acknowledged that many people view the Eagles tour as an income stream aka paycheck.

Any tour is literally a means of making money. Glenn being there or not doesn't change that fact. I'm ok with you viewing it as a income stream because that's exactly what it is

Acknowledged by whom? Who’s pretending? I guess I’m not following. I’m not aware of anyone who doesnt know the band is a money-making machine. That was part of the grand plan from the very beginning, and it became especially true starting in 1994. Hence, the band’s reputation as “corporate rock.”

It appears you are saying 2 things:

1. the band cannot profit and pay tribute to Glenn at the same time.
I don’t believe one has to do with the other.

2. what they are doing is not a tribute.
This is a matter of opinion as far as the fans are concerned. IMO, the band pays tribute to Glenn at every show. It’s probably safe to say that Don, Joe, Timothy, Vince and Deacon believe so as well. If they believe it’s a tribute, then it’s a tribute, even if it falls short for some. I don’t believe Vince is trying to sound like Glenn.

You have a point, Dawn, which is why I wondered if I had done the right thing to say "leave it to those who are going" after I realized it wasn't a show thread.

I don't want to censor anyone. I don't want to ironically become a "happiness patrol" that ensures no one criticizes the band outside of Eagles 3.0 in this forum, and it appears that's what I've done here.

It's hard to know where to draw the line. I guess I just felt bad for the people who were excited.

Feeling bad for the people who are excited is such an odd position to take. I can't imagine wanting to rob someone of joy over anything, as fleeting and difficult as it is to find. I am excited about seeing Don, Joe, Timothy, Deacon and Vince perform in Louisville on Oct. 24. It'll be my 32nd Eagles concert, including Classic West. I like hearing their songs. I grieved for a long time over Glenn and will probably mourn for him again, but for now I get to hear this group of people make and perform music and I want to be a part of it. I'm excited and I reject your pity.

I also tend to believe the song/order change was to take some of the load off Don. But why not replace it with another slow-paced song like Pretty Maids All in a Row? I guess they wanted to pick up the pace of the show by adding another rocker.

I would prefer PMAIAR over walk away. I wish they would do help me thru the night, I love that song but you're probably right about making the concert more fast pace. I think Deacon deserves another song but that's just me
