Enjoy the snow while it lasts AZ. Does the cold weather help your allergies?

AzEaglesFan

Yes. my allergies have taken a Winter break. It is down to 32 tonight. Around 5:00 this evening I took pity on our dog and took her for a walk. We couldn't go yesterday because I waited to late and the rain came. At 5:00 the sun was shining for a few minutes so I grabbed her away we went. I about frozen but she was all nice and snug in her fur coat. The things we do for our animals. It's "suppose" to clear up and be nice for the football game.

This is hilarious! 68* yesterday and out on the golf course having a wonderful time. This morning it is 21* and a thunderstorm came through and we are supposed to have ice buildups!

Welcome to Kansas where it is NOTHING to have a 47* shift in temperatures!

Crazy weather all over the globe. Going from drought to flooded in one storm is tough.
Our weather had a bit a turn, 55 degrees at midnight to 10 degrees tonight. A bit of thunder and wind. Missed feeling the earthquake tho, I'm a little disappointed, I think.

Ive always been a dreamer

Well the flooding in Queensland is horrible. My heart goes out to the folks who have lost their homes or businesses. It will take them a very long time to rebuild, but I know they will come back stronger than ever.

Wow Willie - I am SOOOOO glad I am not you right now. We got about 2 -3 inches again last night and the weather reports are predicting for us to really get trounced on Tuesday. I had to laugh at your comment EF. My dear niece and her Army hubby moved to Colorado in December. Before they left, we teased them about getting snowbound all the time. Ever since they moved, we've had about 4 snowstorms - they've had only one with about 2 inches. So I guess for the time being, they're having the last laugh. But, I still miss them a whole lot anyway.

It's raining here. Rain rain rain.. BLEH! they say its supposed to snow here next week and we'l be getting a foot or more. For all ya'll in the north, that's no big deal, for us here, that means a complete and total shut down of everything! For one thing, because of all the rain, we get black ice under the snow (that's ice that has a layer of dirt and oil on top of it so it's hard to see)
Anyway, Im well stocked up here and I have my seed catalogs so I'll be planning for spring *G*

Supposedly we have actually gotten more snow than we did in the blizzard of '78 but without the wind and drifting. It's really kind of surreal out here. Good news is, it has finally stopped. There is another chance of snow come Tuesday but not supposed to be much.

We are deffinitely having some Strange Weather here. It was supposed to snow yesterday, but didnt. It was really dry and cold, but what was strange is you could watch it get cold. It was pretty wet the day before and that morning so the ground was muddy and my bird feeder was full of water. As it got colder and drier, the streets and walks dried but the water left in the feeder froze up, like something out of a movie! You could almost watch the ice crystals form! (wish I had a time lapse camera) This morning it's warmed up and the rain is back in spades!

(No worries about the lil birdies, Sarah and I put out suet cakes for them. We have wood and bush tits by the hundreds flocking in our trees,.. let the puns begin..hehehe)

We are under a blizzard watch for the next few days. I guess there's like 3 systems coming in to the area including Missouri, Illinois & Indiana that includes inches of ice, feet of snow and major winds. They are even saying we could get "Thundersnow" which is very rare and usually means that it dumps an average of 2 inches of snow an hour. From what they are saying, it depends on how the systems track on whether in our neck of the woods we get more snow or ice. What they think we will get will be about a foot and a half of system snow, followed by a couple inches of ice followed by Lake Effect snow. I guess south of here, they are expecting inches of ice and major power outages.

Brooke, Cathy and anyone else in that area, let us know how it's going down there and stay safe. Sounds like we are all under the gun at this point.

Brooke
01-31-2011, 11:20 AM
They are saying that we will have snow of historic proportions for our area here in NE Missouri. 12-18 inches starting Tuesday through Wednesday. First we are to get up to a quarter inch of ice. Plus high winds causing blowing and drifting. They are advising that we stay inside and postpone travel plans till after the storm is over. Ya think?! All the weather people are so excited, they just can't talk about it enough! It's funny, most of the time when they get something this big to talk about we miss most of it! We'll see. Everyone around here is skeptical. Our weather people can't make a decision till they look outside and see what is happening!

Our biggest snow in recent years was 13 inches in 1999.

Willie, this is baby talk compared to what you or Molly are used to, but we're excited to see what will happen! We are having a few sprinkles at this moment and it's 27 F. :fear:

Well, so far I'm fine. It's 71* here in Wichita (IN MY HOME)! It's 4* outside with 30mph wind and 45mph wind gusts. They are saying the "feels like" temperature is -20*. There is a little snow accumulation already (at 6:33am) but we are supposed to be getting between 7" and 11". But that estimation is changing all the time. Seriously, I was thinking about the majority of the middle part of the country experiencing the severe winter weather today...stay safe and stay warm! We have had not so nice of a winter out East, either; and I guess we will get the dregs of what you send us a bit later tonight...mostly ice and not so much snow. No fun for driving for us. Well, the boss sent us home at 10:30 saying the roads were terrible and it would only get worse. This morning there was a light glaze of ice on everything. The snow started at about 9 and the wind has picked up. Driving home it was nearly a white out. We actually have a blizzard warning and nearly everything is shut down. Or should be! Thankfully I only live a couple miles from work, but it is down a dead end gravel road. It was already drifting as I came home. I'm sure it will be completely closed by morning if we get the 20-24 inches and 45 mph winds predicted. Our biggest snowfall on record here is 14 inches back in 1999. http://www.graphicsgrotto.com/emoticons/weather/images/emweather10.gif (http://www.graphicsgrotto.com/)

Brooke
02-02-2011, 10:29 AM
Fp, what a cyclone. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.

TBF, love your weather map!

We have survived the worst of it here. We got on average about 20 inches of snow with gusting winds from 20 to 50 mph last night. Everything is shut down. The state is concentrating on the major highways like I70 (it was completely shut down last night all across MO!) and 36. The snow is over and they will work on the lesser roads today. Who knows when my county road will get plowed. It just depends on how bad they are drifted, which will be pretty bad. We do have a county commissioner next door (b/n/l!) so they usually get to ours pretty quick. And getting out of our long drive is another problem. It is drifted about 2-3 feet in places which doesn't sound like much, but even 4 x 4's can't get through it. We lost power at 4:30 last night and it came back on around 7 pm which wasn't bad. We figured it would be out till morning. I don't know how those electric workers worked in the awful conditions they had last night, but thanks guys! It is much appreciated!

I went out to take a few pictures and immediately dropped my camera in the snow! The pics I took are fuzzy. Hopefully my camera will dry out and then work right! (insert ding dong smilie!)

Hope you did your grocery shopping Brooke!

Here in Central IL we mostly got ice, not nearly as much snow as was first predicted. It looks like we got 4-6 inches. I got an early call from my boss. The bank is not opening until noon today. Hubby is outside digging us out now.

Yep - my thoughts are also with the the people of Queensland. It will probably take them years to recover from all that Mother Nature has bestowed upon them lately, but, hopefully, they'll come back stronger than ever!

And also thinking of all of you in the midwest that got pounded. This has been a very harsh winter for many of us here in the U.S. And Willie - love that map. I'm just hoping I don't have to borrow it.

It was 20 degrees this morning on our front porch. The water bucket was froze almost solid. Yesterday it just had an inch of ice on top.
We didn't have any hot water until 10:00, I guess the pipe going into the water tank froze up.
I went out to get the mail and water was running down our drive way. Bobby went out to check, he thought a pipe had froze and broke but it turned out that when he put some insulation around the pipe he had turned the water on by mistake. What a relief, it would not have been fun changing out the pipe because it is still only 38 outside now. I think I would have just turned the water off to the house and let it go until it warms up. We can use paper plates. It would probably be bad though when we had to flush the toilets.

On the phone with my aunt in Houston today, I was told there was a great deal of outrage over the fact that the weatherman had said they would get 1-3 inches of snow last week and they got nothing. Schools had been called off in preparation for the "big snow" and kids were eagerly looking forward to it, only to have nothing more than a bit of ice.

Heard on the news this morning that this year has been the 6th in the most snow ever and that that area only needs a 1/2 an inch more to move into 5th on all time snowfall ever, which we will most likely get tonight with a few inches expected again. The South Bend station that broadcast that says the total for them is 102 inches. Now if you remember right tho, all those days I complained about when we'd be getting lake effect and South Bend and east of here would get nothing? Wonder what our total is for my little town.

Well, It must be that time of year again for Kansas and Oklahoma. We're under a tornado "watch" meaning conditions are favorable for a tornado to form.

However, 60 miles south of us, right on or very close to the Oklahoma/Kansas border, there is a tornado "warning". A funnel was spotted there. It's a long ways from Jess and that group of cells is far enough away from us here the Wichita area to not be much of a factor....but it sure FEELS like Storm Weather!

We had a strange and rare weather phenomenon on Friday night that totally freaked my youngest daughter out. It's called a roll cloud. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcus_cloud Amazing cloud formation and wind so loud it almost hurt your ears. Just as if somebody had turned on an industrial sized fan, (like in the movies?). All over in a few minutes and back to normal for a while before a storm rolled in and torrential rain. DD2 thought we were having a hurricane, although I think she meant tornado. Apparently lots of people along the south coast rang the met office to see if it was a tornado, so she wasn't alone.

MikeA

Some really weird weather globally isn't there. I heard the Mississippi was to reach it's crest Tuesday (tomorrow). That could get really ugly!

That "roll-cloud"....reminds me somewhat of the dust storm Jess and Lou experienced out in Arizona last year. Those hit Kansas, Oklahoma and Nebraska back in the dust bowl years and took as much as 8" of top soil off the land leaving nothing for things to grow on!

We're having weird weather patterns in Kansas also. Today, we have a predicted 99* temperature (furnace weather!) that will blow the previous high temp out the water! Previous high was 95 back in 1989. Good grief....this is MAY. We usually don't open our swimming pool until some time in June but I'm going to have to get it open and get chlorine in it else we're going to have an algae and mosquito farm!

Brooke---are you ok? You also, Mike? I heard Missouri and Kansas got hit pretty bad last night. We had some strong storms but no tornadoes just lots of lightening, high winds and torrential downpours. We are to get storms again this afternoon and this time they are calling for possible hail and damaging winds again.

Everyone stay safe!!

We're all fine here in NE Missouri, thankfully. Not even any rain where I live.

Poor Joplin. (SW Mo.) :stunned:

Austin, I live no more than three hours east of you and yesterday was perfect IMO. Warm temps, low humidity. Today we're supposed to have more of the same. Don't you watch Jennifer Ketchmark on the WCIA channel 3 news? :hilarious:

Honestly, I'm thrilled. This season has been either too hot and humid or too rainy so far. It decided to be perfect just in time for my vacation!

Hot most of the day around 99 degrees, then about 8:00PM a storm came through and dropped the temp to 74. LOTS of wind and finally some rain. We'll pay for it tomorrow with high humidity but it sure is good sleeping weather tonight with all the windows and doors open.

Sunny and muggy, 94 F and feels like 110 F. Awful!

And I spent the afternoon scraping and painting on my son's house! At least we were in the shade, but it was very hot!

Wet, wet, wet... and very windy (had dog training on Tuesday night & they were all going nutty in the wind!).

Of course it is July and that's kind of midwinter down here.

I can't complain - but sometimes I still do!

Brooke, how about you shave some degrees off your high temps to make life more bearable and send them across the pond to us. Summer seems to have stalled here and the kids are about to break up for the summer holidays. :eyebrow: Weather very hit and miss. Helps you and will help me. ;)

Todays forecast. Bright start with rain possibly thundery and with a risk of hail.
