I was thinking of doing a "fun facts" page on my site. Anyone have any ideas of any fun facts that could go on it?

OK! In no particular order, here are some fun facts I came up with (the first one is from Freypower):

He's left handed, but plays his guitar right-handed.

He started piano lessons when he was 5.

He has three children - two sons and a daughter.

Nicknames include Roach (for his frequent pot-smoking back in the day), Sporticus (for his obession with sports), and the Lone Arranger (for his individualistic approach towards arrangement of music). Also calls himself Elvis sometimes, ie "I told myself, 'Elvis, you can't party like you used to.'"

The first demo Glenn ever did for David Geffen was Chug All Night - in 1994, Glenn suggested no one ever listen to it again.

The first two working titles of No Fun Aloud were Prelude to Obscurity and Do You Know Who I Used to Be?

One summer in the 90s, he taught a two-month course on songwriting at UCLA.

His nose got broken when he was 13 - his younger brother hit him in the face with a baseball bat. Lesson? "Never catch without a mask."

On a good day, he can make the equivalent of a pro-shot on the golf course.

According to Cameron Crowe, the lead character of Almost Famous is based largely on how he viewed Glenn.

His last solo band was called the Mad Dogs after his Mad Dog Ranch in Snowmass, Colorado.

He also owns houses in Kauai (sp?), Hawaii, Palm Springs and Laguna Niguel in Orange County, CA.

Thanks freypower! Now, let me get this straight. He owns the houses you mention, plus a house in Aspen, right?

Seems like I remember reading he got rid of the Aspen house. I just can't remember where I heard that.

To add to what is already here - another nickname for him in the early days was "The Teen King" (maybe had something to do with the groupies). Of course, current nicknames given to him by some of his shallow fans include Sugar and The Allnighter. :D

All the students that passed his UCLA songwriting course were awarded a tacky, Elvis-like statue called the "Glenny."

He was on his high school wrestling team.

He used to have a cat called Charlie, black & white with a black moustache like Charlie Chaplin.

Thanks guys! These are great. You're all going on my "Acknowledgement" page. And while we're at it, does anyone know any good Glenn quotes?

The Colorado house is in Snowmass, which is basically a suburb of Aspen.

Ah, ok. Thanks for the info. In a bit, I'm going to upload a sample index and see what you guys think before I link it from the main page.

OK, here is the template for how I've got it done now:

Big Life: All About Frey (http://www.glennfreyonline.com/aboutglenn.htm)

BTW, does anyone think I should make more than one page for "quotable Frey"? It could get really long.

You will need a few pages. I think it will expand for some time.

I still think the answer 'what do you call a musician without a girlfriend' is 'a vocalist' because the musician's instrument is his girlfriend. As Nellie Frey once said, 'Glenn, if your guitar had T&A, you'd never date another girl'. It could well be 'homeless' but to me that makes less sense.

I am glad you included the Hall of Fame speech because that summed up so well why he is the leader of the Eagles. He really knows how to inspire and charge people up.

I listened to it on headphones because we'd discussed it before, and I'm almost sure he says "homeless." The idea is that musicians are always so poor that they have to be supported by their girlfriends. I think that's why he follows it with "We're bad dogs." It actually is pretty funny - at least IMHO!

Good grief, I've never seen that On performing quote before. I am partial to the sweaty look, and, oh never mind, off for another cold shower.

A couple of snippets from the Costas interview:

Rejected names for the Eagles included the Saltines and the Small Fr(e)y Dance Band. Catchy, no?!

About Lyin' Eyes: 'Lyin' Eyes was about us as struggling musicians looking at high class unattainable girls'.

Songwriting: 'It's important to allow people to let their own imagination become involved with the work'.

and: 'I like the phrase 'affable cynicism''.

About Love In The 21st Century: 'Loneliness is an industry in this country'.

And another well-known fact is that his favourite black Gibson is called Old Black.

OK, here's my new format for Quotable Frey - btw, if anyone has suggestions for better topic names, feel free to speak up.
