Had some trouble signing in this evening. Don't know if it is related to the glitch already mentioned but thought I'd pass the info along.

Another glitch just now trying to access the board directly. I went to EOC and came in from there.

The board has been offline for me from 11PM Central US Time until just now at 1AM Central US Time. Just FYI. :) No page error like before or anything. It just couldn't find the address like the site was completely down. Said something about it couldn't find the DNS server.

It's very slow in connecting to the server for each request and sometimes the connection times out. Usually a deadlock situation. I thought it was because I'm on my company's network (they're always slow) but I guess everyone is having issues.

Yep - it seems like we go through this problem for a short while every few months. Usually after a few days things improve. Hopefully, that will be the case again. Got my fingers and toes crossed. :wink:

You don't copy a link. You copy the actual emoticon itself. You won't see it until you submit it.

You must be looking at 'save picture as' instead of going further down the menu to 'copy'. I'm using Windows 7.

I swear, I am! lol I am directly on the image itself, right clicking but as I said, I am not getting the usual menu options that come when say i'm trying to copy and paste something. It's giving me 'copy image' or 'copy image url'. I selected copy image but when I come back to here and right click and select paste, it's blank! Nothing shows up!! What I did above was the 'copy image URL' just to show u that's the other option it's giving me. It's frustrating because I actually do know how to do these things but something is amiss somewhere and I don't know why and now it's driving me bonkers and I am on a mission to figure this out. WELL after messing with this ridiculously silly problem, I've at least figured out a way to post the dang smilies. I have to use the 'insert image' option above and then paste what I've copied into that. A bit more trouble, but holy smokes that was driving me BONKERS!!! Over the past week there have been major issues with The Border's database being inaccessible. I've submitted tickets to vBulletin (our board software) and am trying to get things back on track, but we may have to tolerate more down times before the matter is successfully addressed. This process must be undertaken with care or we may lose data. Thanks for your patience!

PM - I don't believe there is. You can collapse an entire forum by clicking the hourglass icon to the far right of the forum. Also you can skip reading the thread and then after you've read the threads you want, click the Forum Tools tab and select 'Mark Forum Read'. It will then clear all the unread threads. Hope this makes sense.

I'm still getting the Christmas background when I log in...I change it to EOC Default...but the next time I log in..the Christmas background is there again...and I've had to change it back to the default on a daily basis..what am I doing wrong that the Christmas background keeps popping up?...

I've been getting a "database error" message this evening and at times I haven't been able to load the page for half an hour or so. It seems to be very on and off. I know GA and Zelda have had similar issues. Is this happening to anyone else?

I'm still getting the Christmas background when I log in...I change it to EOC Default...but the next time I log in..the Christmas background is there again...and I've had to change it back to the default on a daily basis..what am I doing wrong that the Christmas background keeps popping up?...

You have to post the full youtube.com URL, not the shorter youtu.be one (note the position of the period). You'll find the longer URL at the top of the page in your address bar when you're on the YouTube site; do not use the one under the video labelled "share this video."

Random. Guess it's eased up now, there were 3 sites I couldn't get in, kept timing out, others like this one took several minutes to load. No fixes that I heard but that's the only answer given.....if you believe whatever the media chooses to tell us.........

I think this is what you were talking about, P47. It wasn't an easy read, and it didn't explain the side effects at all. It said other sites may have problems, but in our cases it's some users and not all. So maybe it's the ISPs that are getting the residual issues? I'll see if I can find more on it.

I was! What does seem to have happened is if I try to load most of the schemes the banners aren't showing up but I assume that will come back.

I have had to switch to Firefox for complicated reasons & the theme is the LROOE theme. I wanted to change to Halloween & I can, but when I try to move betwen forums it reverts to LROOE & when I restart the browser it reverts to LROOE. I don't know why because LROOE is not the default theme. I then tried to change the forum skin in my edit options & that didn't work either.

Brooke - You are right - today the board style is set to the Halloween style and should come up automatically for everyone. In the past whenever others had this problem, I think they cleared their cache and that fixed it. Tomorrow, we'll be going back to the LROOE style to resume our week-long celebration for the album.

Per Soda's instructions, my background is set to default and mine never changes when Soda changes it for special occasions either.

FP, I know this is a really fundamental suggestion, but did you unplug your machine from the wall for a minute, then plug it back in, then restart it?

FP, you might also try using an alternative browser. I'm not sure which one you are using, but if you try IE, Firefox, Google Chome - one might work. Obviously, since the board works on your phone, it is not a board issue but rather on your end. I hope you can fix it soon!

Those of you confused about default board styles (and it IS confusing)....

If you want the board default to change on special occasions, here is what you must do:

1) Go to the User CP in the upper left hand corner of the board. It is on the far left.

2) After you bring up your User CP, look on the left sidebar and click on "Edit Options."

3) After that page comes up, scroll all the way down to the bottom. You'll see a block called "Miscellaneous Options." There is a box within that block that is entitled "Forum Skin."

4) Set the "Forum Skin" to "Use Forum Default." Do NOT select "EOC Default" as that is the red skin.

Ah okay, I just did that too, and now it's showing HFO. I guess if I would leave it alone from this point it would change when Soda changes it, but because I use the drop down box on the main page to change mine it doesn't. :shrug:

Right! It's a common bug in code and as a tester, it's one of the first things I test for. I just didn't know how to change it to the default until Soda posted it!

I have a quick question about my recent connection problems (I am back at the moment but it may go down again). Soda told me that the problem may be due to too much refreshing. I don't refresh on the PC but on the phone, where I have no choice if I wish to see new threads. So if this occurs again, which seems likely, should I not even try to view it on the phone?!

I have just had a lot of trouble changing my signature in Firefox. I had to do it in IE. Firefox doesn't give the option of cutting the current signature picture (it is greyed out) so I was getting two signatures before I went to IE & deleted the first photo altogether. Surely both browsers should have the same options?

FP, as for the first, if it works on the phone, then do whatever you want on the phone. As I've said, I really feel this is IP address related, and it started for various members right after it was advertised that a huge hacking scam was found and businesses all over the US began blocking everything on that subnet. It's the only explanation for a single PC to not be able to access at one location and then be transported to another location and work fine.

For the second, I'm not sure what to say. I've had to stop using Firefox on my personal computer for just about everything. There's a whole long list of websites I used to use it on and it no longer works. I've stuck with IE and Chrome for the last six months. They are not good about backwards compatibility and I've exchanged several heated emails with them. Take something like Adobe Flash where I have version x of it and version b of Firefox and it all works fine. Firefox upgrades to version c and Flash stops working. They blame it on Flash, and I had to explain to them that Flash wasn't the thing that changed, and oh by the way, that same version of Flash still works with IE and Chrome. It's happened with several plug-ins, so I stopped using it. Anyway, I don't know what version of IE you're using and it's possible it wouldn't work correctly there without automatically going back to a previous version (the compatibility view). Firefox isn't smart enough to go back and Chrome just works with everything.

Well, unfortunately I have just discovered that when I try to edit a photo from a post, again there is no option to cut the photo, so I suppose I will have to return to IE.

I am still having problems changing my signature in both IE & Firefox. When I try to upload the new image the previous image is being retained. It has been like this for several weeks & as I change my signature every week it's very annoying. When I go to 'edit signature' it shows the new image there as 'current signature' but it doesn't change it. When you try deleting everything & uploading the new image all you get is the URL.

This is when I try to upload an image from my computer. I suppose I should try uploading a Photobucket image.

ETA: I got it to work eventually by dragging the image from the current signature area to the blank area. It shouldn't be this much trouble. And why it isn't showing in this particular post when it's now there, I don't know.
