Brooke, it's good to hear that your mother is doing better.

AZ, take care of yourself and do whatever it takes!

AEF, Good luck with your sleep issues.

Brooke, thanks for keeping us updated. I've been thinking about your mom and hoping she was doing well.

Glad to hear your mom is doing better, Brooke.

AZE -I live right across the street from a doctor that has a specialty in sleep disorders. I'm absolutely positive my hubby has sleep apnea. He doesn't want to do the sleep study tests, no how, no way.

I've threatened him that I'm going to ask our doctor neighbor to come over in the middle of the night and listen to him snore and gack and gasp for air. It really worries me that he's ignoring this.

Good for you for seeing it thru. Good luck.

My father had the same problem, Molly, and resisted going to the doctor for DECADES. Only earlier this year, at the age of 67, did he finally consent to see a doctor about it!

Molly! Why don't you video your husband sleeping and threaten to take IT to the Doc if he doesn't go himself?

Nancy, glad your Dad is looking for treatment even at this stage.

AzEF! Good luck with the tests,

And Brooke, glad your Mom is over her surgery. Hope you'll have her home soon.

Thanks to everybody who have sent messages (Public, Private, texts and IM's) of support and sympathy to myself and the family on our bereavement last week. We really appreciate them all. We are trying to get back to a somewhat 'normal' life now although there will be times when things will be tough particularly for the kiddies. To all of you :grouphug:

On a better note, Chris's asthma attack seems to have been a once off and therefore not much to worry about. However we are bringing him to the doctor to get the heart murmur checked on Wednesday just to be sure.

I didn't realize how common sleep apnea was or how dangerous. Will find out in a couple of week. I'm sure they will want me to use the CPAP since I have good health insurance that will pay for it.
Sorry to hear about everyones troubles but I sure makes me feel better to know that I'm not alone in this.

It's very common as I found out. We women will use the CPAP but the men resist it for the most part. Sometimes surgery will fix it. When I diagnosed 13 years ago, surgery consisted of breaking the jawbone and adjusting the chin position. It was a 50/50 chance so I opted OUT of it. My doc said that a lot of people who die in their sleep from "natural causes" has apnea.

Over the years, I've gotten my CPAP machines(3 of them for backup)from ebay plus the supplies even though my insurance covered some of it. And I use the Breeze Sleepgear, no straps on my face, etc.

No matter what the situation in life is, you're NEVER alone:angel:.

Just wanted to let you all know that Lou should be in the air right now. I took her to the airport at 2pm this afternoon. She may already be in Dallas by now. She has a layover there and then will be on her way to England from there. I miss her already. We had such a wonderful time while she was here! Me, my family, and my friends already can't wait to have her back here. She assured me that she will be coming back again soon.

Haven't heard from Lou since she was in Dallas last night. She was suppose to touchdown in London around 10:30 her time this morning (5:30 my time) if she was on time. Haven't heard from her yet. Hopefully it was uneventful! She deserves that kind of travel for a change! :hilarious: Even tho I didn't meet up with her any, I told her I kinda hate to see her leave the states! It was nice knowing she was here.

I'm just home.

My flight was on time, and although I barely slept, it was okay - we actually arrived in London a little early. My aunt picked me up from the airport, and my grandparents came along as a surprise. We've just had a pub lunch and I'm now back at home. I have a couple of days to myself to just relax, sleep, load photos to my computer, etc. I'll be honest, I'm firmly in the 'I don't want to be here!' phase right now, but every party has to come to an end, I suppose. I'll just have to keep reliving those memories a while longer!

Reading Tim's news REALLY brought a smile to my face. Thank goodness he's okay! And seeing that new Eagles pictures... WOW. I still keep going back to stare at him... er, it. Seriously though, such a great band shot!

Thanks for all your thoughts and posts. It's been a lot of fun sharing the trip with you guys. It's been one heck of an adventure!

ETA: Because I've just had a couple of messages from a couple of very sweet, concerned people ;) I just wanted to clarify that I am okay! Didn't mean to sound bummed in the above post. I am just EXHAUSTED. And my back didn't enjoy the flight! Of course I'm missing Jess and the States already, but I'm going to enjoy loading all the photos up to the computer and sleeping in my own bed tonight. PEW hasn't caught me just yet!!

I went back and re-read Tim's blog -- guess I was looking for more reassurance that the show will go on as planned -- and was struck by the timeline. BROOKE, don't know if you picked up on it or not, but Timothy had his surgery the same day as both of our Mom!

Troub, glad you're feeling back to your old self!

The bedroom project is coming along. New rug has been placed, new bed assembled, chest and night stand is in the room. End-of-bed-bench arrived the other day. My night stand is going to be an accent chest I found online. Waiting for it to be delivered. Hope it works with the room because the other pieces are modern and dark wood, but I wanted to mix it up a bit. Here's a pic of the accent chest...

Well it's been a bumpy few days.. my cat Midori had to be rushed to the vet's yesterday for an emergency visit. She was very sick and once they did tests they found she had a blocked colon! They have removed the blockage and given us meds to help her.

However the cost of all this means I will be unable to go to the Eagles concert when they come to Toronto in June. I had to use the money i had put aside for the concert to pay for part of Midori's care. But she's gonna be fine and is back home with us now!

MikeA
05-22-2010, 12:38 PM
We've made two trips out there so far this year. We'll go at least once more in the fall, possibly once more after that.

It sounds so very excessive doesn't it? But really, after you learn the ropes and make a couple of trips, the hotels won't cost you much of anything because after you have run coin-thru the machines (Verna's job) or racked up comps playing the card games (my Job), the casinos "rate" your play and compensate you with comps (complimentary rewards) to get you to come back...again and again. Comps range from points you can exchange for gifts in the gift shops, that you can use to pay for meals, to free hotel accommodation, tickets to shows....whatever. On the machine games that Verna plays, those comps can end up being "slot cash" that you can play though the machines as though it were cash that you feed into the slots.

In essence, these trips cost us the price of an airplane ticket on the 2.5 hour flight with Allegiant Airlines and the car rental. We used to just take the bus and taxis, but that was too restrictive and was time consuming. We watch the rates for Alamo Rental Cars and invariably catch them a month or so ahead of time when they are trying to fill their quotas and get them dirt cheap. The rental for our Chevy Cobalt (I think that is what it was) was $60 for 4 days. Allegiant...the same way. It's like playing the stock-market....you watch the "special offers" daily when preparing to take a trip out to Vegas. The have a standard rate but as time comes close to your departure, the prices drop for tickets as they try to fill the flight with passengers. We've gotten rates as low as $19 per person one-way....of course the fees and taxes don't change and they can amount to $60 or $70. Still, pretty darn cheap for a 1500 mile flight! I don't think we've ever paid much over a total of $300 for the round trip flight.

The "hotel"....we might have paid $29 for one night which is the "Player's Rate". The other nights were "free" or "comp'd".

Meals were either free or 2-for-one which we paid for off of our players card points mostly...except for the HD Cafe for which we had a 2-for-1 out of a coupon book we'd bought for around $25. Lots of food coupons out of those.

If you like Vegas, and are content to stay down on Fremont St, you can really do it economically.

I've missed a lot in this thread over the last few weeks and upfront i just want to say i'm sorry if i miss responding to anyone's posts. Everybody has had a lot going on lately, both good and not so good.

Timfan, too bad you're gonna miss the concert but that's really good news that Midori is going to be okay.

Cathy, your chest looks FANTASTIC!!! Seriously though, the room looks beautiful. All of the planning and hard work you've put into it is paying off. Great job!! I can only wish that i could be that crafty and decorative.

Last night at work was INSANE!!! It was so busy that I had to stay an extra hour and half. Friday nights are usually fairly busy but it was Toby Keith that brought in a lot of business for us. He is hosting a charity golf tournament at the University of Oklahoma Golf Course and an auction at the casino i work and he brought in quite a few celebrities to help out. He had the auction at the theater in the casino. It was really cool that there were a lot of celebrities there...Larry the Cable Guy, Roger Clemens, David Allan Coe, Mike Leach (former Texas Tech head football coach). I heard that there were more celebrities but those are the only ones I heard was playing blackjack. Of course i didn't get to deal to any of them. I still haven't gotten to deal to any of the celebrities that have come through the casino. My friend Christi got to deal to Toby Keith and her hubby Eric got to deal to Larry the Cable Guy and Larry tipped him $100. Pretty cool. Toby doesn't tip...EVER!!!!

Here's an update on my cousin, Francene. Many of you know that she was diagnosed with Leukemia this past October. I met up with her in Okc a few days ago and went to her doctor's appointment with her. So far everything is looking pretty good. All of her blood levels are doing good but the doctors say it's going to take a while for the cancer to go into remission. One of the things that Francene asked the doctor was is she ever going to be able to have any more children. She has a beautiful 5 year old daughter but hopes to someday have more kids. The response from the doctor wasn't good. He says with the medication she is taking there are severe risks if she gets pregnant not only for the baby but for her too. Francene held strong but i know deep down she was really hurt by this news. I know she want to see her family grow. She's doing her part to stay as healthy as possible and my family continues to be there for her. Thankfully, Francene is able to have a very normal life apart from all of the meds. Hopefully the cancer will be in remission sooner than the doctor predicts. My fingers are crossed.

Remember when Lou was stuck at my apartment when all of the bad storms and tornados passed through Norman a couple weeks ago? Well, that happened to me on Wednesday. I was freaking out big time. The news was saying that rotation/funnel clouds were spotted near the casino (i'm only 3 miles away from work) and that EVERYBODY should take cover immediately. I never left my apartment. I should've gone to the fire station a few blocks away but the weather man was saying that there was baseball size hail and i wasn't about to get outside in any of that. The tornado sirens were going off and I couldn't get through to any of my family to let them know that i was going to be taking shelter in my apartment. Finally after about 20 minutes i got through to my mom and she calmed me down. Thankfully while i was talking to her the rotations never lowered into a tornado and the bad storm passed by me.

This video was all over the news. It's some amazing footage of a hail storm that went through OKC on May 16th. It wasn't the storm that Lou or I experienced but this is a good look at how bad the weather can get here in Oklahoma.

I'm with EL on this one Jess. I don't know what y'all in OK have done to bring on the wrath of MN, but she is unloading on you this year. We have been so lucky in the Wichita area so far. We had some hail, but nothing like the baseball sized stuff that was shown in that swimming pool. That was incredible!

Francine's health...I wish the very best outcome for her in this battle. It is a shame that she will not be able to have more children, but she does have the 5-yr old and when she gets through this long term ordeal, there is always adoption. Maybe not the same as flesh and blood but in so many ways, rewarding in itself in a different way.

Tokes....I don't toke a lot but I will not stiff a dealer if he/she is pleasant and is trying to make the table an enjoyable one to play at. At El Cortez where I play in Vegas, they have a side bet called Royal Match. On the single deck tables, if you bet a dollar and your first two cards are the same suit, you are paid 3 to 1. You can bet up to $100 on that side bet. If you get King Queen in the same suit on your first two cards, you are paid 10 to 1. A couple of times in an hours play, I bet that side bet with a buck. If I win the bet, I just toke the dealer with it. It adds up even though I lose most of those bets.

I may have played 20 minutes TOTAL on the Double Deck tables at the Tez and also at Fremont, but probably played close to 30 hours on the Tez Single Deck tables. That's about my limit in ability to concentrate. You know what I do. It takes a lot of concentration to do it and appear that I am just a normal player.

TBF, to "do it" the way we do it, the first trip or two are "investments". You won't get the free rooms without having been there and sort of "gotten on their radar". You do that by hitting every casino you can possibly get to, especially those in the area of Vegas you intend to stay. Sign up for every Players Club. It's free and you get a credit-card like thing that you put into the machines that you play and it registers how much "coin-thru" you play. If you put $5 in a machine and win, say $25 and then play that until you lose it, you will accumulate $35 of "coin-in" on your account that you established when you joined the Players Club.

An addition benefit to joining these Player's Clubs is that you will nearly always get a "gift" and maybe a $5 or $10 credit to be used in the machines! Gifts you might get are tee-shirts, hats, keychains, decks of casino playing cards, dice....just about anything is possible. We even got a battery operated massager at one casino!

But the thing is, that you will start getting offers in eMail and snail-mail for discounted or free rooms. But it is not a one trip thing. I mean, you have to "invest" that first trip in order to get on their Members Lists. Then you have to use those offers in order to stay on their lists.

There have been times that Verna and I have been booked in 3 or even 4 hotels for the same night. Now, if you do that, you can schedule those rooms free on different nights and end up staying free the entire trip...but you would have to check out and move all your clothes. That's a hassle! We usually just pay the player's rates to stay in the hotel of our choice for the entire trip if they are not all "comp'd". Even if you don't stay, the free room usually includes either "slot cash" that is credited to your Member Account that you have to play through their machines....or it usually at least includes discounted or free meals.

Frequent Vegas visitors all play that game with the hotels and Player's Clubs. You would be silly not to do it. They just want to do whatever they can do to get you to come back...OFTEN.

My wife plays slots and plays them with a vengence! She'll spend 16 hours a day hitting the "spin button". Usually playing around $.50 or $.75 a spin. This last trip, she hit one bonus of $1,191. That was a PERFECT win because if you win $1200 or more on one spin, you have to report it as income and pay both State and Federal taxes on it. Technically, you are supposed to report ANY winnings which you can offset with loses but you have to have perfect records to be able to do that and that is almost impossible to keep track of...so no one does it unless they hit for over $1,200. Can't avoid it if you do have a big win like that because the machine locks up and an attendant comes out and hand pays you and issues a W2G that is also filed with the State and Federal IRS.

Slots are very volital. You can play the and win and win BIG...or you can lose your shirt! Obviously, with a payback at around 89% or 90%...maybe a little more than that...a lot more people are going to lose than win at that game!

I don't play slots. I play a little on the Video Poker Machines but only for nickels which have a maximum bet $.25 per spin. I only play ones that have a 100%+ payback or something very close to that and you only get that payback if you play with perfect strategy. Unlike slots, VP machines are a game of SKILL. There is one and only one way to hold each possibly hand you are dealt. If you play these perfectly for the game you are playing, then in the long run, you will win a little.

But I don't play VP much. For one thing, it is very difficult to find VP machines that have Positive Return or payback of 100% or more.

There really is only one other game in the casino that can be played that has a Positive Return if you play it right and that is Blackjack. But like with VP, you have to find the casinos that have the table rules that permit them to be played at a positive return. There is no way around having to learn BASIC STRATEGY for these games. It's easy to learn, but you have to learn that strategy and play it without exception on every hand even when your "gut" tells you to not to follow it. If you do this, then you can play the game with a 99.5% Expected Return. That means that you would lose $.50 on the average for every $100 that you bet. Not bad.

There is a way to make Blackjack a Positive Expectation but that involves counting cards and I'm NOT going into that with Jess here on the Forum <LOL> If you are interested, PM me and I'll tell you the secret of why and how it works. It's not difficult but does require some practice and it requires concentration when you are actually playing. Oh, and if the casino figures out that you are employing it, even though it is NOT cheating or illegal, they will not allow you to play at their tables. THEY want the longterm advantage to insure that they make money at the games they offer. Can't blame them for that, but by the same token, if a person has the skill to employ it, there is not much that they can do other than try to spot the Counters and back them off the tables.

This last trip, I steadily won. Just a little but I won it steadily. In the end, I was "up" $175 and had a blast doing it. I very seldom lose at Blackjack, but it can happen. I only play $5 minimum bet tables and will only play Single Deck or Double Deck and whatever the number of decks, the casino MUST pay 3:2 for Blackjacks. Almost all of the Single Deck tables in Las Vegas have gone to 6:5 payouts on Blackjacks. You get a blackjack on the average of once every 21 hands. If you are playing a 6:5 table and betting $5.00, that means you would get $6.00. If you are making that same $5 bet on a 3:2 table you would get paid $7.50. You can do the math!

6:5 tables bring a 1.4% penalty to the victims who don't know enough NOT to play them! Yet those tables are usually full of "Ploppies".

Mike, your granddaughter is adorable. I have to say, you resemble my brother, David, a little bit in that picture.

Jess, thanks for the update on Francene. Continued good thoughts heading her way.

My son Peter has finished his senior year at Marquette. He's going an extra semester so that he will graduate with 2 majors.

Last week he was let go from his paid internship...so now he's home and bored and frustrated with job searching. I work from home so this is been a little more togetherness than either one of us is used to.

He is working his way thru a to do list my husband put together for him so that's good. But, trust me, he's thrilled with these crummy jobs his dad has found for him to do.

I know what you mean about your sons home from school. Dillon's been home from his Freshman year for 2 weeks and is climbing the walls in our small little town! He leaves for a camp councelling job on June 9 and will be gone till July 31st, then home 2 weeks before going back down to school again. I'm actually anxious for him to leave because I feel so sorry for him. He actually tried to get a job for the month he was home before the camp started but to no avail. He was calling restaurants in our area from 4 hours away while still on campus telling them he'd wash dishes for 4 weeks when he got home. :hilarious: I can't complain that he has no ambition, that's for sure.

Friday my daughter and I took the train in to Chicago for her 1st college visit. Don't know how this is going to go. She really wants to go to school for Fashion Marketing but her grades just aren't that good. And of course these art colleges are so expensive. But you just can't tell her that or she goes into what we call "scream mode" and won't listen to reality. Only time will tell how this one goes.

BOY! does all this sound familiar!!!!
Jen has been home a MONTH and she doesnt have a job yet. She is technically searching for a job, but she only applies places she knows wont hire her. She has put in a few applications lately at more reasonable places, but still hasnt come up with anything. She'll be home till late in September and mostly she sleeps! It's making me a bit testy! BUT..on the other hand, she baby sits for me when I need her to and picks Sarah up at school so I dont complain too much.
The Scream Mode is very familiar too. Jenni panics about things when her plans are in question and tends to go into "scream mode" This most recently happened when we discovered she hadnt done ANYTHING about registering for school next year! (she's transferring from Concordia to Portland State) We have it MOSTLY worked out, but Im afraid we'll hit round two when she discovers she'll have to live in campus housing without her best friend! Could get ugly!
Best of luck, Molly, with your son. I sympathize completely *G*
Willie, It's nice to know Dillon has a plan (the camp counselling job). He'll be a great counselor.

I'm very selective about where and what I "play". I'm such a miser when it comes to money.

No offense at all intended toward Jess, but I would likely never play at one of her tables. At least as long as she is dealing in Oklahoma. I play nothing but Blackjack and Video Poker and only those games if the rules are favorable. Oklahoma has a "rule" or "law" (never understood which) that requires an ante on the table games. That ante reduces the Expected Return on the game by some 10% on a $5 bet. That is astronomical in terms of the normal blackjack game where the Expected Return is 99.6% by just using Basic Strategy. To play a game where the Expected Return is 89.6% is not something that I'm inclined to participate in <LOL>

There are plenty of others who don't know the odds who will fill Jess' tables without me.

Wow, I'm gone for just a little while and a whole heck of a lot happens! I'm still in Memphis, heading home tomorrow. I found a place and I really like it. It's definitely an upgrade from my little apartment at Purdue. I won't be able to move in until July, but I'm pretty excited about it (although I'll miss my friends). However, Memphis is rather centrally located so I'm sure I'll be seeing folks again - I'm under 9 hrs driving distance from places as disparate as Dallas, Chicago, and Atlanta. For me, that's nothing! ;)

While in Memphis, I've seen Sun Records and Graceland. Sun Records was especially interesting. I got to stand on the very spot Elvis stood when he recorded "That's All Right (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIWlWA1YTBw)." Graceland was a bit over-the-top for me but I sure know a lot more about Elvis now than I used to! It was also cool to see all that seventies furniture, technology, and decor. It's like walking through a time capsule. On Saturday night, I checked out Beale Street. I think it might be kind of fun to live here. :)

Now I'm going to attempt to catch up on at least some of these threads, although I'll have to leave many for later since I've got a few more things to do here in Memphis. There sure has been a lot of activity!

Ok, here's my tale of woe for today: my favorite riding mower sheared the pin off the axle again, happens every year cuz it's not made of steel, so back to the shop. So now I'll pull out the Cub Cadet, which is newer and nicer and a lot SLOWER, and finish the front, then get the Snapper out to do the back. Both small mowers are 42", the monster is 50" and rides real rough, almost need a step ladder to get up on it<G>but after being thrown around for an hour on it(back field is rough)my tailbone is sore. The kid next door loves it so I might wait till he gets home from school and let him do it. Plus it's hot and humid....let me think of a few more excuses to stay inside........

P47 ~ actually, I can relate! we have a cub cadet up at the cabin for mowing the picnic grounds. It's pretty slow but it does a decent job, to the point that we usually compete to see who gets to mow. Altho, I perfer the ATV *G* it's a LOT faster, just not so good at mowing LOL We HAD a really nice John Deere mower but we blew it out. Evidently you have to run those in full throttle mode or they over heat?? anyway, the little cub seems to be running pretty well.

I've never had any trouble with the Cadet, but the Yard Machine is 9 years old and I take it to the shop at the end of every season for a checkup and repair if needed and every year it shears that pin. But it's fast and mows good and I can't give it up yet, lol.

The Snapper is great but like riding a bucking bronco.

She said he kind of looked around to see if anyone was watching him, grabbed a stuffed duck and used it to wipe off his hand and stuck it back on the table behind the other stuffed toys.

No offense taken, Mike. I don't blame ya for not wanting to play here in OK. That ante is a b*tch to deal with. I mean, I know it's not good for the players to have to pay an ante on every hand but it's also a pain for us dealers to have to mess with it too. Not only does it reduce the expected return but it also slows the game way down. I'm pretty quick to take the ante on every hand to try to speed things up but it really reduces our hands per hour compared to other states. Plus, i get tired of hearing players complain about how "They don't do that in Vegas!!" Ugh!! I hate it when players say that. My response to that phrase is usually "Sorry, but this is Oklahoma. We do that HERE." And I always say it with a big 'ol smile on my face.

Wow! AZEF. 48 years is some achievement and I hope you have many more years of bliss!

EL, I didn't realise you have Aspergers. Some of you may know that Laura has been diagnosed with a mild form of this. It doesn't really effect her life in a hugh way but she can have difficulty in social situations.

My first year back at work is all but over. Official classes have finished but we have our school exams next week. They finish on Friday and then we are off till the end of August, although I will be marking the State Exams for a few weeks over June/July. Its a pain but it has to be done!

Once again, thanks to everybody who sympathised with us publically or privately over the death of Pauls Dad earlier this month. If I missed acknowledging you personally apologies. The support of the people on this board at a time of crisis is second to none and I really value the friendships I've made here. :grouphug:We are only really getting used to the idea that he won't be here at lunchtime when I get in from work or times like that. Paul cleared out the apartment last week so we are storing his 'effects' for the time being until they can sort them. Its been a traumatic month.

On the positive side, my own Dad can walk again and move easily. He was at his doctor yesterday who feels that the hip replacement was a major success and he is very pleased with Dads progress. Hopefully this will continue!

Well, looks like I may have scratched my cornea by wearing my contact lenses too much. This morning I couldn't even bear to look at the computer screen for more than a few seconds at a time because my left eye was so light-sensitive! I can do so now (obviously), but I can't go outside into the sunlight. It hurts too bad. I may wind up having to go to a doctor, and I am really loath to do that!!!! Since it's already gotten a little better, I'm waiting to see if it'll get all the way better without me having to do that.

I had plans to see a movie with a couple friends today. I figure since the theater is dark, maybe it'll be OK, so one of my friends is picking me up and I'm going to give watching the movie a shot. I'm bringing a book in case it turns out I can't tolerate it.

Take good care of your eyes, I've done that too when I wore contacts. Hurts like heck but it seemed like I got some eye drops that made them feel a lot better and they did heal fast.

Well I spent today relaxing and recovering from my very busy week last week. You see the Portland show I attended with Rhonda wasn't my first show last week, not even my second. It was actually my fourth. I attended the shows in Ontario, Chula Vista, Seattle AND Portland. Maybe it was a crazy thing to do but it was crazy fun and I would do it again in a heartbeat :D

So why did I do this? Well, a couple of days after I returned from the San Jose concert I had a routine follow-up appointment with my doctor. My mother had both breast and ovarian cancer and my sister and I live with the specter of “high risk” over our heads so my doctor has been closely monitoring an ovarian cyst I have had for several years. This time the news was not the usual “its still there but it hasn’t changed so we will have you come back in about a year for another test”. This time it HAD changed and they were concerned it could be cancer. The first step was a CA-125 blood test to see if my levels were elevated. Blood was taken and I was sent home with the admonishment “not too worry too much”. Yeah, right. The results came back in a few hours and fortunately the news was good - my CA-125 levels were normal. And while it’s a relief, I am not completely in the clear. I go back in mid-June for another look at the cyst and if it is still changing that will most likely mean surgery and whatever may come after. Of course I spent a few days thinking about my life and what I have done, what I haven’t done, and mostly just wanting to do something just for fun. And having recently been to two great Eagles concerts, I decided one more just wasn’t really enough… so four days before the Seattle concert on May 13th I bought a ticket through JWFC and reserved a hotel room. At that point I was only toying with the idea of going to Ontario and Chula Vista. Getting there was the problem because it meant a 420 trip from home to Seattle one weekend and the 800 mile drive to LA the next. And then fate intervened in the form of Timmy’s tummy problems.

Having told no one (not even Rhonda) about my plans I headed north for the Seattle concert. At mile 416 of my 420 mile drive my phone rang. It was Tina from Azoff Music calling to tell me the Seattle concert had been postponed and rescheduled for May 26th. Well SHOOT! But what could I do? I was already in Seattle with my already paid for hotel room waiting for me so I decided to play tourist. It was a sunny, gorgeous day so I walked over to the Space Needle and then to Key Arena to see what I could find out about what had happened. I talked to an arena employee who only knew what I already did - that Timothy was ill. Then I wandered around the back of the arena where at least 15 semis were parked and the road crew was milling around obviously getting ready to break down the concert stage they must have had set up before the concert was cancelled at 2:30. I met a couple who had come down from Anchorage, Alaska for the show and who had just found out a few moments before that the concert was postponed. We chatted for a bit about the Eagles, the distance we had traveled, and whether or not we would make the trip back in two weeks and then went on our way. It was that evening in my hotel room that I made my final decision. I went online, bought tickets for both Ontario and Chula Vista and a round trip plane ticket from Medford to LA. With the Seattle concert rescheduled for the 26th flying south was my only option. It took the Eagles to get me on a plane after 17 years.

Now the story of my actual trip deserves a post all its own. It was nuts and probably the most fun I have had in a long time. I desperately needed a little adventure and I think I got one. My family and most of my friends now think I am mentally challenged for wasting the time and the money. They just don’t get why I would want to do this. Thankfully I have all of you. *G*

Cami, I applaud your decision. All of us should find more excuses to throw caution to the wind and do that which we've hankered to do! Like "they say", no one looks back and says "I wish I'd spent lest time with my kids and more time working!"

I'm sure you are very concerned about your medical issues, but there isn't a lot you can do but ride it out. And as for the concert trips: Heck yeah I understand that action! Some of the best memories Verna and I have are of the totally unjustified weeks of driving 11 hours a day for two weeks a few years ago to take in 7 concerts! Or of sitting in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Tx ALL FREAKIN' DAY on a raised aluminum floor to watch Guitarists during the "Crossroads Guitar Festival!"

Cami--I, for one, am damn glad you did that!! What an adventure and why the hell not do it if you can and are so inclined to do so! If there's one thing I've learned over the years with all the cancer in my family, is that life is to short NOT to do something that you really want to. I wish I had the guts to do something like that. I will have you in my thoughts that everything will work out great and not be serious. I'm so glad it all worked out for you for all those shows but where the heck are the rest of the pictures and reviews? :hilarious: Now that the cat is out of the bag, you better spill the beans sister!!! Start that new thread with the whole darn adventure mapped out for us. Can't wait to hear all about it.

Judy--congrats to your family!

Nancy-I was at the doctors with that same thing about 4 weeks ago. One evening the eye started bothering me a bit and the next morning couldn't get the contact out fast enough. I looked like someone had beat me up and by that evening Larry was making me go to the Med Point to have it checked out. I was miserable the whole weekend and couldn't go outside because the sunlight just killed me, couldn't be on the computer, couldn't read etc... it was horrible. Hope all is well with it now for you.

We had plans this weekend (Sunday) to clean out my Mom's basement (a place I refuse to go into because of the creepy crawlies) so my brother Mike and Larry said they'd go in and bring stuff out for Mom, my SIL Irma and me to go thru. Friday I got a phone call from Mom saying that we'd still all meet Sunday but no work. Seems my SIL had gone out for a jog that morning and was attacked by a dog and called my brother who rushed her to the emergency room. The damage wasn't to bad, messed up her leg a bit but she was able to scare him off before he did to much damage. My brother took her home, settled her in and took off for work that evening. About 2 hours later, Irma got a call saying Mike was being taken to the emergency room because he had been thrown from a forklift and they thought he broke his leg. She managed to hobble herself to the hospital and they took xrays and found the leg not broken but with severe tissue damage and he is now in a cast and on crutches. Both of them, 2 different hospital emergency rooms to damage to their left legs on the same day. What's the chances? On Sunday, showed up at my Mom's only to find her with a horrible cold now. Geesh--I hightailed it out of there as fast as I could because didn't want any of the rest of their bad luck to rub off on us! :???:

Cami, I applaud you! I can't wait to hear about your adventures. You sly thing, keeping it a secret! I hope the medical issues don't worsen and that they served their purpose as a impetus to let go and have some fun.

Willie - yikes! I don't blame you for freaking out! That's a streak of bad luck for sure!

I went to the doc today and it turns out I have the makings of a ulcer on my left cornea thanks to having something on my contact lens which rubbed into my eyeball and got infected. The good news is it can be treated with eyedrops. The bad news is these have to be administered HOURLY and I HATE putting in eyedrops! I also have to wear my stupid old-lady glasses for at least a week. :( :( :(

Awwwww Bummer Nancy, but at least there is no permanent damage done. I hope you'll be back to normal soon.

Willie! What a run of bad luck for your family members. I hope they are all recovered soon.

Hey Cami! You are wonderful to follow your dreams like that. I'm glad you had such a wonderful time. I hope everything is ok later this month. It seems like you have a very dedicated healthcare team anyway and I'm sure they would leave nothing to chance. Good luck.

Cami, dang girl, I know it took a long time for the Eagles to finally get there but I didn't know you'd go to every single show! ;)

Sometimes it takes something like that to shake things up for the better! Sounds like you had a great adventure and like everyone else I'm dying to hear more!

Willie, that leg story was unbelieveable!

Nancy, I'll bet you look sexy in your stupid old lady glasses. :heybaby: :hilarious:

Eye update: getting better but I'm still hypersensitive to light and can't go outside without major pain. Inside in the dim lights, though, it's MUCH better; hardly any pain. I gotta go to the doctor again tomorrow though. :: SIGH ::

Well, on the bedroom design front, my chest arrived damaged.:weep:We didn't even have to open the box - there was a gaping hole in it about the size of a baseball. Looks like a forklift bashed into it. There might be a bright side to this though. They have reordered one for me and filed a claim against the freight company. If they decide that it's not worth it for them to have us ship the damaged one back we will be instructed to "dispose" of it. If that's the case and we open it to find that the damage is slight, I've got myself a toofer! (2 for the price of one)

It's probably just bruised Cathy. Maybe you can get a new one and get that one repaired. You really need a matched set anyway.

Yet I know the disappointment of getting something that you've ordered and have it not be what you wanted and especially didn't expect! Good Luck.

Lol! I'm surprised they do that. It seems to me that it would encourage people to "damage" it themselves and then file a false claim.

Sorry about your laptop EL. I just got my first one and I'm ecstatic! No more being cooped up in the back room. I'm portable, baby! Sitting here on the screened porch right now having my lunch. Life is good!

Hope your eyes are doing better now, Nancy. Well I got the CPAP and the first night went OK. BUT last night was terrible, don't know what I did wrong but I didn't sleep worth a darn. If tonight doesn't go better I will give them a call and see if they can tell me what the problem is. The up side is when I wake up in the morning my allergies don't have my nose all stopped up.
