Just dropping in to let you know that we got home a few hours ago. We're all exhausted, so I'm off to bed shortly, but will write more ASAP. We had an amazing holiday - I completely fell in love with Rhodes. I have a busy time ahead, starting from this weekend (family reunion/birthday party, followed by moving into my new house and preparing for my new job.) It's all go, so definitely back to reality with a bump... although it is exciting. Lots of changes. Have to admit I'm already planning my next trip abroad!
glad you're home safe...can't wait to hear more about your trip!
Troub, it's so nice to hear from you, all safe and sound back home! I'm anxious to hear what it was about Rhodes that made you fall in love with it. Sleep first, though.
Lol TLR! For once something interesting happened in your life, you posted it and the thread was closed before anybody had a chance to comment! :hilarious:Quote:

That's so exciting that you were picked to be on a show like that! It's okay that you turned it down. Those things aren't for everyone. I hope you were pleased with your results!
Glad guy had such a great holiday Troub!
And TLR! Hope the results went well and that you are happy. Was it A-levels? Our school leaving results came out today as well.
WELCOME HOME TROUB!
Troub - Welcome Home!

Today I've broken a guitar's volume knob(pot) and had a headache earlier today. Not necessarily a great day but I've had much worse and the guitar can get a new part.
I'm still feeling better and more energized, makes me think it was the thyroid afterall.
glad you're feeling better tonight Austin!
TLR and PM, it is ironic, isn't it? In a thread like this, no matter where you break it to close it, it's never a good time! I swear this is the most active thread on the board, and it never seems to have a lull.
My things arrived from VA yesterday. I spent all day unpacking boxes while the movers kept piling them in. A coworker and friend surprised me by showing up in the afternoon to help and we worked flat out for over six hours. The only break we took is when our boss called us to tell us the customer is very upset with an issue that involves both of us, so today is not going to be a good one. We have to go into his office and explain some numbers this afternoon.
Troub, glad you are back safe and sound!
Austin, glad you are feeling better!
Rhodes is just beautiful. Great beaches, pretty little towns, clear turquoise water and so much ancient history. The history is probably the thing that captured me most - I am a history freak and love nothing more than going to historical buildings/sites. The history of that island is incredible and stretches back further than most of us can even imagine... There is a carving of a shipwreck in the cliffs at the bottom of the acropolis at Lindos that dates all the way back to B.C.! It is just mindblowing. We had such a fantastic time. Mostly relaxing by the pool and on the beach, but we also wandered around the towns of Pefkos, Lindos and Rhodes and went on a Lazy Day boat cruise, during which we stopped at three different bays and were able to swim and snorkel in the clear waters there. I just loved every minute of it. One of the bays was at Lindos, right in the shadow of the acropolis. It was amazing swimming in the sea and looking up at the cliff with the ancient acropolis standing on top of it.
The tavernas were pretty and friendly, and served delicious Greek food... Even as a vegan, I was able to have a lot of local fare - olives, pita and houmous, Greek salad, grilled Mediterranean vegetables and fruit for dessert. The local produce (especially fruit and vegetables) is so delicious that the Greeks finish most meals with fruit, especially watermelon - it is often brought out as a complimentary dessert with your bill.
The Old Town of Rhodes is somewhere you must visit if you go there - it is a walled town built in the 14th century by the Knights of St. John, and is still very much in use along with the modern town. It's not just ruins, as you would expect. It's an integral part of the place. Lindos is beautiful, too - a small town nestled between the mountains and the sea. The acropolis towers over it, and its streets are small and crammed with shops and little tavernas and cafes. It was just all so romantic to me... I would go back there in a heartbeat. The weather was in the low 30's each day. Very hot, almost a little too hot to walk too far in the middle of the day, but perfect for lazing around the pool and swimming. The evenings were warm and we spent many of them sitting on the roof-terrace of a taverna, overlooking the sea on one side and the mountains on another.
I also discovered something cool... There was a villa right opposite our resort that we used to admire each night on our walk to Pefkos and joke about buying, because it had a For Sale sign on the gate. Well, a few days ago we found out who was selling it... only David freaking Gilmour! Apparently he comes to Rhodes a lot (unfortunately not when I was there!) We were able to take some pics of the villa, which I can post soon. It seems it has been empty for a while, as it needs some work doing to it. Still very cool to see where one of my musical heroes used to take his vacations!
Sounds absolutely wonderful Troub! I've enjoyed seeing your pictures on Fb too! They are beautiful!
I definitely think you should buy David Gilmour's villa! Then we could all come visit you!
Both from reading this and from some of the texts you sent, it sounds like you had a wonderful time Troub. And with just the right mix of R&R and activity. I'd love to do the snorkelling too! Looking forward to the pics!
And welcome back!
School has started again. The kids came back on Wed. Probably limit my time here.
I have already told my students that I will be absent October 8th :) after the concert we are staying in a hotel just a block or two away from the arena. :):soda:
At least you can tell them that SC. I will be saying nothing about my absence on the 8th November. And I'll be praying that flights home on the Sunday night run on time.
I'm gonna be a tired little Bunny on the Monday morning but it will have been soooooo worth it!
Troub, your description of Rhodes is wonderful! Of course, I followed your every status on FB, and appreciated the updates. Maybe you'll go back someday!
today is the anniversary of elvis death....I remember where I was ...I was 17....do you remember where you were ?
I was working in a bank's drive thru as a teller when one of the police officers came in & told us. I immediately called my mom since she was such a big Elvis fan. I had seen him once at the Houston Rodeo in the '70s & always hoped that I would see him again. So sad! :-(
I remember hearing it on the news, but that's about it. Gone too young for sure.
When I read your text about this, it was 4 am and hubby was getting ready for work. I read it to him and he asked if you were thinking of buying it so that we could lounge around by the pool that David probably lounged naked himself at. :hilarious: DORK!!!! But what a thought. :hilarious: Can't wait to see the pics.
So glad you had a great time. Sounds like a real dream vacation.
I think Larry knows you (and apparently, me!) better than we'd like to admit...
Maybe a lil SG!
I was only 9. It was on the morning news. But my cousins had been visiting from the UK a few weeks previously and one of them had told me how much she loved Elvis. So I remember feeling very sorry for her that day.
I had a friend visiting from out of town last week and it's kept me quite occupied. I took her to Graceland this week (as is required for any out of town guest ;) ) and the amount of flowers and tributes placed around Elvis' grave to commemorate the anniversary of his death overflowed into the driveway.
Massive amounts of people here in Memphis this week to attend candlelight vigils in his memory and other more celebratory events such as concerts to keep things from getting too maudlin.
Love reading about what's happening in people's lives, even if I don't get a chance to respond to each one... I read them all!
Welcome home Troub! Very neat about the villa.
Glad you feel better Austin!
Hope things got sorted out at work, VA.
S-C, I can relate. School starts for me Wednesday, but the preparatory meetings started last week.
Cool about your "interesting" experience TRL, even if you did refuse.
Dad has been doing cardiac rehab and hasn't felt 'right' since Thursday's session. Today he was really feeling off and mentioned it. His heart rate and blood pressure were very high so they admitted him to the hospital and did part of a stress test this afternoon, second part will be tomorrow.
Personally I feel that a big part of the problem is a batch of supposedly really good moonshine given to him a little while ago. Apparently the whole family imbibed freely this past weekend, without me, and all were feeling a bit rough today. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.
Va prayers and good wishes for your dad.'keep us posted.
On that note....Lucas is 10 months old today and he weighs 19lbs and 5oz.
They dont have to check his sugar unless he is sick..Yippee......Luke
VA - I will keep your dad in my prayers. Hopefully it was just too much weekend excitement.
:yay::yay::yay: Lucas! I'm so happy that he does not have to have his sugar tested all the time now TT
VA - Prayers sent to your dad.
TT - Great for Lucas!

I'm planning/thinking about the rest of this year.
I have a gig on Labor Day Weekend, then I go to Ohio on September 1st until the 5th, when I arrive in Tennessee. Then I leave the 7th to head home....
Then the last week in September is my Ausfest show, where I have all the musicians/bands I love come and play and my band plays the last show with my other friends. About 10 on stage for the last few songs. I open it with a solo acoustic thing (basically a soundcheck), and then close with and electric set. Other than I also am asked to join a friend on Gold Dust Woman on electric guitar during their set, so I'll be playing that too. They don't have an electric player to do some of Lindsey's parts.
Then in October I go see this band... You might have heard of them. They are called the Eagles. :D And I spend a day in St. Louis and have fun there. And I get to see Joe again live!
Then in December, I'm off to Florida for a couple of weeks.
Then the new year begins.
I love it, but I get bored without a plan and things to do and places to go.
thanks hb and austin,
'we are so so excited.'
cant wait to see his momma at work in a short while.
celebration time
Wow Austin! Sounds like you have an exciting fall planned! ENJOY!!
VA! Thoughts and prayers for your Dad. I'm sure he will be ok, but it will be good when that's confirmed.
TT that's brilliant news for Lucas. So good to hear of the peanuts progress, though I doubt he is still a peanut.
Austin, looks like you have a busy fall planned, hope it all comes to fruition.
VA, thoughts and prayers sent for your Dad. Hope it turns out to be nothing.
TT, great news for the bouncing baby boy!
Austin, sounds like a busy fall for you! Have fun!
Today is my son's 31st birthday! Can't believe my baby is that old!
sigh
I teach in an alternative school setting. We have a HUGE district in our state 12 High Schools like 52 middle schools. When kids get kicked out, they get to come to us. Currently the 2nd week of school we have 15 High School kids.
Today, I had a girl writing notes in her notebook to the guy sitting next to her. I had already warned her to not talk and to work. I walked by her computer station many times and had spotted her notes. All about getting high and rolling blunts. I thought by my walking by her several times she would put it away but she didn't. Finally had to call the principal to come take her notebook. She came back to class after a couple of minutes and called me a bitch. Called security to come get her and she came back to class with about 10 minutes left and was really angry. Ripped up the birthday card I gave her yesterday and started mouthing off under her breath about me. Kicked her out for the rest of the day.
And this is the start of the 2nd week of school I need a :soda:
