Celebration of Glenn's Life - 5 years later
Today marks the 5th anniversary of our beloved Glenn Frey's passing. We still miss him every day and while you can still post your memories of Glenn in the 'Remembering Glenn Frey' thread, Soda and I thought it would be a good idea to create this thread and I'll be posting various things throughout the day to celebrate his remarkable life. Please feel free to post your own contributions here throughout the day as well.
I'll start this off by posting a link to the official video for my favorite Glenn solo song - You Belong to the City ...

I knew you would post that one, Soda.
Now, for a little piece of trivia about Glenn before he was an Eagle. He attended Dondero High School in Royal Oak, Michigan where his classmates voted him as 'most likely to inhale'. However, in spite of that he excelled academically and was also on his high school wrestling team.

I guess I'm pretty predictable!
I used my Royal Oak coffee mug this morning in honor of Glenn!
Re: Celebration of Glenn's Life - 5 years later
Glenn had many memorable quotes. Here's an interesting one that always amused me ...
On How Eating a Cheeseburger is Like Sex
"Can't wait to get a good cheeseburger. It's so funny... I went to the Hard Rock [in London] and I went to the American Disaster - I got my hamburger - and I picked it up with my hands. Which is what we do, you know - french fries and hamburgers, man, to hell with utensils! You just pick 'em up with your hands and all these people in the restaurants look at you like - 'Whew! What's he doing?!' I see these people with the hamburger, man... You gotta get messy or it ain't no fun! It's just like makin' love!" (London 1973)

Well, I've been away for awhile, but had to come in today to remember Glenn! CanNOT beleive it's been 5 years since he passed. I still get sad about it. I know I'll never forget his (usually) soft, sweet, smooth voice or his passion for music or what a wonderful person he really was.
I'm playing his catalog on my pandora today at home in his memory.
Thanks for creating this page too!
Soda, that's one of my favorites of his too. So beautiful!
Dreamer, hilarious quote! A ladies man and a man's man too!

In '93 in the Chicago Tribune, Glenn said "I weighed 89lbs in the 9th grade, and 112lbs when I graduated". :woah: I guess it's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog!

Dondero High School has been renamed to Royal Oak Middle School and today the street that runs along side the school has also been renamed in his honor ...

However, in spite of his many accolades that he was very proud of, he managed to stay grounded ...
"My yardstick isn't measured in albums sales or Grammys or the number of TV appearances. My yardstick is more geared now toward being a complete man: husband, father, songwriter." (St. Petersburg Times 1991)
"Success in life for me is not measured by record sales anymore. It’s measured by how full a life I can lead. That sort of thing is more important to me than whether I sell... whether my album is gold, platinum, or turquoise doesn’t really matter to me. I know what I do. I make records, I write songs, and I dabble in these other things, and I just try to do the best I can and try to have a good time while I’m doing it. My job is to entertain people – sometimes inspire." (Strange Weather European Press Kit 1992)
