Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
Time for the All-Star Songs Survivor, where we vote off the winners from each Eagles album Survivor games until we get to the last one standing!
If you're new, for a basic overview of the game, see this post: Survivor Overview
I'm going to list all the winning songs here. Vote for the song that you feel should be eliminated from the list. The song that gets the most votes will be taken off of the list (or, in the language of Survivor, "voted off of the island.") Each round, one more song will get axed, until there's only one left. Remember: you're voting for the one you think should GO, not the one you think should stay.
Note: Do not criticize how/why other people vote. Their reasons are their own and they are free to vote however they like. Also, never attack a fellow poster. You can disagree without making it personal. Sometimes these games can get heated, but remember... it's still just a game.
Each round will last 48 hours after posting to give people a chance to vote who don't post every day. That means that the first round will end at 8:00 Eastern time the day after tomorrow. If you miss a round, don't think you can't play. It's all good!
Since there may be discussion posts, be sure to make it clear when you are casting your vote. Once the board clock strikes 8:00 pm Eastern on the second day, no more votes will be counted for that round - even if it's only seconds after. Your votes also cannot be changed once you have voted, even if you change your mind or make a mistake. Once it's on the record, that's it - so be careful!
If you get confused about what round we are in, look at this post. I'll always update it to reflect the current round. Also feel free to post any questions if you don't understand what's going on.
If there is a tiebreaker, then ALL votes from ALL previous rounds are tallied and whoever has the most prior votes is eliminated. That’s the way it’s done on the real show, that’s the way it’s done here. If there is a complete tie with prior votes (Murphy’s Law), then I'll have a sudden-death trivia question ready. The tie-breaker question will be asked one hour after results are in, if there is need for it. The first person who answers it correctly gets to break the tie. The odds of that happening are slim, but you never know, and it's good to be prepared. The exception is the last round. If the tiebreaker does not resolve the last round, then the tie will be allowed to stand.
In order to avoid voter fraud and trolling, we require that you must be "a member in good standing" as defined by the Terms of Service for at least two weeks before the start of the game in order to cast a vote.
GAME OVER!
The winner of the Eagles All-Star Song Survivor is:
Take It Easy
Songs Eliminated:
Seven Bridges Road 9/06
Waiting in the Weeds 9/08
One of These Nights 9/10
Doolin-Dalton/Desperado Reprise 9/12
Already Gone 9/14
Heartache Tonight 9/16
New Kid in Town 9/18
Hope everyone enjoyed the game.
Thanks for playing!

Wow! You're right on the dot, Dreamer! :)
And... this is hard... this is very hard!

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
Yep - I'm ready, CA. I actually had the post all prepared so all I had to do is click 'Submit' when the clock struck 8:00 p.m.

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
Back from a trip just in time to get going on this, pretty much the hardest of the Survivors!
However, I do know what I'm going to pick first.
I cast my vote for One of These Nights.
I've always thought, out of all the Eagles hits, this one sounds the most dated. The intro and outro both screams "song of the 70s". Of course, I love songs of the 70s, but still - the other songs are more timeless in their appeal.
-
Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
I vote for "One Of These Nights." In a list of what are all great songs, this is my least favorite.

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
As someone who loves classic rock and 70s music, and thinks new rock music sucks (lol), I LOVE One Of These Nights. It really was a sign of the Eagles moving in the right direction by dropping the whole country thing and moving into rock music. Along with Already Gone, if it weren't for the changes made that started with those two songs, I wouldn't be a fan today if they had kept going with Bernie and just stayed a country-rock vocal outfit. If they hadn't made One Of These Nights, Hotel California, and The Long Run, I wouldn't be a fan. I'm just very much against the Desperado-era sound and the early Eagles. To me this song defines their shift in sound and I will do everything I can to save it. It just shouldn't go yet, IMO. I'm sure my vote won't surprise anyone who knows how much I hate classic/traditional country music.
So, without any hesitation whatsoever, I vote for:
Doolin-Dalton/Desperado Reprise

I understand why some believe OOTN has a dated sound, with the 70s-style R&B and disco beat. But IMO, Heartache Tonight sounds even more dated. Dance music is very popular these days and OOTN fits that profile more than HT with it’s old-style RnR vibe.
As as far as being timeless, OOTN seems to make the top 10, if not the top 5, of just about every Best of Eagles song list that I’ve seen. I’ve rarely seen HT crack the top 10. Also, OOTN has more streams than HT:
Youtube - OOTN 340,136 views; HT 190,923 views (both from the 2013 Very Best of Eagles album)
Spotify - OOTN listed at #4 with 78,899,876 streams; HC- Live at the Forum 1976 listed at #5 with 31,655,924 streams
I don’t know where HT ranks (it only lists what are presumably are the top 5 songs), but it appears to have less streams than #5 HC.
I’m not sure what to vote for yet, but I definitely believe the excellent OOTN with its incredible vocals, electrifying guitar solo, and riveting bass line deserves to to stick around for awhile.

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
I can split this very clearly into three songs I don't care for and five I can't put a cigarette paper between.
So, to get the ball rolling, I vote for Already Gone. Felder and Frey have a decent semi-harmonised guitar solo. Nowt else memorable about it.
-
Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
But, but, but, AG is one of my favorite Eagles songs, tlr! I also love OOTN! How could it sound like a 70s song, after all, all of these were recorded in the 70s except WITW?! JK!!!!!
As are most of those in this list! This is gonna be very hard!
I guess, even though it's soooo beautiful, I vote for Seven Bridges Road.
I can't even imagine what will be next! :fear:

Now you know how I felt when The Last Resort went first in the Hotel California version! ;)

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
Oh wow, all the rockers are being voted for. Thank god the vote is split so far! lol
While I totally agree with Delilah's assessment as to why OOTN should stick around, I also dearly love Heartache Tonight and I feel it's old rock and roll spirit should be, if anything, a reason to love it not to hate it. I'm not a big EDM/Dance/Pop fan, but OOTN has enough of a Motown RNB and even old rock vibe for me to love it regardless of it's disco/dance appeal. I agree it deserves to hang around at least a couple rounds.
It's a shame that old rock and roll isn't popular today with the youth as it is so much better than modern rock music or modern metal music or modern pop. The rock music of today is missing all of what made classic rock so beloved. I hate modern rock! It has none of the "roll". Greta Van Fleet is about the only one going that sounds like classic rock and is good. I also liked Buckcherry, but they aren't all that new.

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
So, I've been thinking about this list... a lot. Reviewed all of the choices made by the others. And, this is going to sound crazy coming from me, but the song I feel I need to vote for is: Doolin-Dalton/Desparado Reprise. I feel conflicted, but I know that's what I want to vote for. That's my vote for this first round.

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
I vote seven bridges road. They didn’t write it and it’s not that important to the ketchup of the band unlike already gone imo

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
This is going to be a really hard game for me because I love all of these songs so much. As we say all the time, how much each of us likes a song is very subjective. Therefore, I am going to try to the best of my ability to judge the songs on their overall quality with the criteria I normally use – music, lyrics, vocals, harmony, melody, and arrangement. However, even this doesn’t make things a heck of a lot easier for me because these are all extraordinarily high quality songs. I still have no idea what I'm going to vote for yet, but I definitely agree with Austin about Heartache Tonight - not only is it one of my very favorite Eagles songs, but I think it is also one of the best ones - it's a great rock n' roll romp that is so infectious and catchy. It's also one of two Grammy winning songs in the game - the other being New Kid in Town. Oh my my! What to do? What to do? :dizzy:

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
I'm voting 'Waiting In The weeds' I just don't think it has stood the test of time like the other songs have. It only featured in the LROOE tour but was pulled for the HOTE tour. While its a beautifully crafted song with very powerful lyrics, I don't think it will be remembered as a 'Classic' the way many of the other songs on the list will be remembered
-
Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
I vote for Seven Bridges Road. As others have said, while it is beautiful, they didn't write it, and I don't like it as much as others on the list. This is going to be a tough game!

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
Well - I'm sad that 7BR is headed towards elimination, but, TBH, I'd be sad no matter which song went down. I have deliberated a lot and have finally made a decision. I think this is a gorgeous song, but it sounds a bit more soloish instead of Eagleish, so ...
I cast my vote for Waiting in the Weeds.

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: Results of Round 1
The first song to be eliminated in Eagles All-Star Song Survivor is Seven Bridges Road. “Seven Bridges Road”, there are stars in the southern sky, but they didn’t line up very well for you. The tribe has spoken and if ever we decide you should go, you must turn southward from here and go down the Seven Bridges Road. Then, follow the moonlight and moss in the trees to find your way off the island.

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
I’m voting for Heartache Tonight. *runs and hides*
My reason is. Before I liked the Eagles, I was an Osmond fan and they always played this song in concert. I was burnt out.

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
Voting for Waiting in the Weeds. Not because it isn't a brilliant beautiful song. It truly is mesmerizing. I just kinda hear it as a Henley song. And not that that is a bad thing by any means. Just not Eagles Classic.

Yeah - This is what I meant to say when I voted in the last round.

I just feel that the All-star winner should be a classic 70s song.
-
Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
My vote goes to Heartache Tonight.
-
Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
I vote for Waiting in the Weeds again this round for the reasons that I gave in the previous round.
-
Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
Well - it looks like Waiting in the Weeds is on the way out this round. I would vote for it if necessary because I agree that, as much as I love the song, I would rather see one of the 'classic' Eagles songs prevail. Since my vote is not need to eliminate it, I will vote strategically ...
I cast my vote for Already Gone.

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: Results of Round 2
The next song to be eliminated in Eagles All-Star Song Survivor is Waiting in the Weeds. “Waiting in the Weeds”, it's coming on just past the end of August and another summer's promise is now gone. The tribe has spoken and you must realize the dream is over. Now, please take the back roads running through the fields lying on the outskirts of this lonesome town and find your way off the island.

I realize I'm probably throwing my vote away, but I just cannot bring myself to vote for any of the other songs. I love all of them, except THIS one, which I do not like. Hopefully someone will join me.

Sorry I missed last round! Hate to see the beautiful WITW gone, but I do agree with the reason why.
Voting for One of These Nights this time.
Love, love, love it, but love the rest more!

I vote doolin dalton desperado reprise. The other songs are too important to their legacy IMO

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
I vote for Heartache Tonight. I LOVE the seventies sound and vibe of One of These Nights. It hit number 1 the week before I saw them the first time... great memories!

Exactly, YEF! And they are better songs, pound for pound.
