box on the mic stand question
I saw a OT question asked about this some time ago and haven’t been able to find the thread again ... so, peneumbra or austin, you two are most likely to actually know the answer:
What is the box attached to the mic stand for? About 1/3 way down with those 2 cables/wires. Something for the bass? or the amp?

I think Delilah asked, I have always wondered the same thing. Randy was the only one who had that box attached to his mike.
Re: box on the mic stand question
We've asked far and wide. One bass player I asked thinks it's a volume control for his bass - custom made, not mass produced.
Wouldn't it be great to know though? That's why I asked penumbra if Randy had a bass tech.

there is a knob on the front (seen in other pictures), so that makes sense.
also explains why the google search was a bust
maybe Randy would respond if someone wrote him and asked *hint*

Re: box on the mic stand question
The more I think about it, I think it is likely a switcher of some kind. They did make guitar effects that could be mounted on a mic stand (the Maestro phaser comes to mind, Joe used that back pre-Eagles). Randy didn't use bass effects though, neither did Tim. But that would be a way to switch in or out either two different bass amps (maybe one set cleaner and one with more grind), Or a boost to make certain lines grittier when only using one amp to make it overdrive more.
