Gordon Lightfoot
Figure he deserves his own thread. A songwriting extraordinaire in the truest sense, he has produced such defining 70's hits as "If You Could Read My Mind," "Sundown," and "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," as well as "Canadian Railroad Trilogy, which is considered by many Canadians to be their country's national anthem.
Here's a few of my favourites courtesy of Mr. Lightfoot...

A very true song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKPobqk0e7w
This one helped make sense of a difficult period I had not too long ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30wHaU1OdcQ

Re: Gordon Lightfoot
He is a very talented man, although I only have Gord's Gold 1 & 2.
I could listen to Sundown forever. The feel of it & the lyrics are just wonderful.
Sometimes it feels like a sin
When you feel like you're winning
And your're losing again
Sometimes it feels like a shame
When you get feeling better
When you're feeling no pain
Then the various ways he descrbies the woman in her satin dress & her faded jeans & how he feels about her.
Edmund Fitzgerald is a masterpiece. I never get tired of it.
Some of my other favourites are:
Don Quixote
Triangle
Ghosts Of Cape Horn
Cherokee Bend
Alberta Bound
Endless Wire
When I was in Toronto in 2011 I was standing in a record store on Yonge St looking through his CDs when I noticed he had actually written a song called On Yonge St.

I love his music. Sundown is a favourite of mine too.

Sundown is my favorite.

Re: Gordon Lightfoot
May I also mention an often-overlooked gem (though it was a sizable hit on U.S. radio back in the day) "The Circle Is Small." Gordon takes on the unexpected role of a man who's being cheated on and he doesn't like it one damn bit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJCFzvDLpUA
I also like the unapologetic love 'em and leave 'em song, "That's What You Get for Loving Me."
It's been mocked a great deal, even unfairly named one of the worst songs ever by comedian/writer Dave Barry, but I love "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." It's absolutely haunting - that electric guitar riff is unforgettable.

Re: Gordon Lightfoot
My husband recently went bear hunting near Lake Superior and he said The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald was stuck in his head while there!
Not that it's a funny song, just that he couldn't get it out of his mind!

Re: Gordon Lightfoot
I love it. I think Dave Barry's crack was that the song lasted longer than the actual shipwreck :)
