Re: 1978 live concert at Huntington Beach
Summer Wind intrigues me. Are you familiar with the Frank Sinatra classic of that name - could it be that song?
If not, can you discern any of the lyrics? Sorry to pepper you with questions. It's so rare that we come across a Randy solo bootleg.
Re: 1978 live concert at Huntington Beach
It's not the Sinatra song and I don't know that "Summer Wind" is the title; I named it that for convenience. The song reminds me a little of "Oh Darling/Wait and See" at the beginning. Here are the lyrics so far (the audio is not the best, unfortunately):
Taken by surprise
By the ocean in your eyes
I think they say they finally found the shore
Funny how time...?
And you reach out to touch my hand
I finally found a harbor in the storm
Summer Wind
You can close your eyes and take you there (?)
Memories
Really thought I'd..........there again
Summer Wind
Summer Wind
Something in your eyes?
But we never said goodbye
Sometimes in a dream
I hold you close
.......? by the time
.......? the tide?
I reach out to touch...?
and it goes
Summer Wind
I can close my eyes and take you there
Memories
Really thought I'd ? you there again.....?
Summer Wind
Summer Wind
Summer Wind
....?thinking about you?
Summer Wind
Woah, Summer Wind
I said, Summer Wind
Close my eyes and take you there
Memories
...time I bring you there again?
Summer Wind
(Repeat)
Ooh, Summer Wind

Beautiful. Wow, a new (to us) Randy song! Major discovery here.
Re: 1978 live concert at Huntington Beach
Wow, thanks for digging into this Delilah! What a great find indeed!! I so wish I could hear it myself.
Re: 1978 live concert at Huntington Beach
Let's keep on wishin' and hopin'. I'm sure D won't mind me sharing that "The Best of My Love" that Randy sings is not the Eagles song but the Emotions song of the same name! We knew he liked r&b.
Re: 1978 live concert at Huntington Beach
I think I read somewhere that after Randy left the Eagles, he wrote 20-30 songs with a friend in Nebraska. I can't remember if that was before or after his debut solo album. Does that ring a bell with anyone? I'm just wondering if that's where "Summer Wind" originated.
(And no, I don't mind, NMB :) )
Re: 1978 live concert at Huntington Beach
I figured you for a sharing type of person. :)
It sounds vaguely familiar about Randy writing with a friend. 20 to 30 songs would be a real flat-out effort for anyone, and particularly Randy who has said he's more of a sporadic songwriter than a "write every day" person, like Glenn was.
Re: 1978 live concert at Huntington Beach
Yeah I know, but he wasn't spending the bulk of his time touring and recording with the Eagles anymore, he was in Nebraska living a different lifestyle, and he finally had someone to write with on a regular basis. Maybe it was more like 20 instead of 30, but where did those songs go?:hmm:
Re: 1978 live concert at Huntington Beach
I am so in awe of you Delilah and NightMistBlue!! You are both finding new info on Randy that I have not read or heard before. I thought I had done a lot of digging but I have not found anywhere near the material you both have.
That is a lot of songs to have just disappeared...:headscratch:
