I can't think of a song with my name in it. However, there is one particular song that makes me wish my name were Linda. ;)
Same here Soda!
Actually, I meant to reply to this thread a long time ago, but I forgot about it. Fleetwood Mac was probably my second favorite band in the '70's for a lot of the same reasons I love the Eagles. They had three different members who could sing lead on songs, which gave them a lot of diversity in their songs. It's always hard for me to pick favorites songs, but I guess I would say my favorites in no particular order are :
Go Your Own Way
Don't Stop
Over My Head
Rhiannon
You Make Loving Fun
Sara
Hold Me
Gypsy
Dreams
Little Lies
~~~~~~
I'm just a hired hand working on the dreams I plan to try. The days go by...
Re: What do you guys think of Fleetwood Mac?
I agree with all your choices, dreamer--those are my favorite FM songs as well.
As a huge Don fan, I can never listen to "Sara" without my mind completely wandering over to him.
The lines "I think I had met my match...he was singing... and undoing the laces," do me in every time!
Re: What do you guys think of Fleetwood Mac?
WOW, Nancy! Those are both great!
I just think it is so damn romantic, the two of them writing about each other. (I'm sure Don has references to Stevie in some of his songs. Any ideas come to mind?)
I guess that is why Leather & Lace is so fabulous.
Can I hear those two songs somewhere? Are they posted here?
Re: What do you guys think of Fleetwood Mac?
Ooh, yes, that is a HOT line! Did I ever tell you there was another song where Stevie refers to Don (but not by name?) It's called "One More Big Time Rock'n'Roll Star." Don actually sent her flowers with that on the card!
Lyrics:
I told you last night - or did you tell me?
I think that it was me and I know that you heard it
I was crazy about you, that's how it always was
Do you think about me now as I sing about this love?
When it rains, it pours
When there's no one at the door
Yes, he did send me flowers
Well, that was a long time ago
Sounded good on a
Delicate white-ribbon card
"One more big time rock and roll star"
Just what I need
As you walk away, you know that I will call
If it's just to say goodnight, and that is all
Well, alright, that's a lie, she says she wanted you to stay
But you know much better than she
She's better off this way
When it rains, it pours
When there's no one at the door
Yes, he did send me flowers
Well, that was a long time ago
Sounded good on a
Delicate white-ribbon card
"One more big time rock and roll star"
Just what I need
Undercover music lover
Undercover music lover
Oh, undercover music lover and an art lover like me
There were candles, crystals, I was anyone's fantasy
Say I'm not 'cause the work just gets harder...
Oh, one more big time...
One more big time...
One more big time...
It sounded good on a delicate white-ribbon card...
Re: What do you guys think of Fleetwood Mac?
And finally, this is a demo of a song that was never recorded that it is speculated is about Don, because she said he "taught [her] how to spend money" and "have a great time," unlike the super-serious Lindsey. Theirs was a world of Lear jets and French champagne! It's called "What Has Rock'n'Roll Ever Done for You?"
She was a self-made woman, he's a self-made man
And these two could really understand each other
Baby, baby
Answer the question
If you could do it over again
Would you do it about your profession?
Well, what has rock and roll ever done for you?
You, too!
What has rock and roll ever done for me?
Everything!
Every day he says, "Answer the question...
Would you tell me just a little more about your profession?"
Would you do it again?
Yes, I would!
I had a really good time
Well, it was really good
So what has rock and roll ever done for you?
You, too!
He says, "What has rock and roll ever done for me?"
I said, "Everything!"
What has rock and roll ever done for us?
Well, well, well, another glass
Of something - French champagne!
Every day he says, "Answer the question...
Would you tell me just a little bit more about your profession?"
A really good time, baby
I had a really good time
Well, I'll meet you on the way back
Well, I'll get you on the plane back
I had a really good time
I had a really good time
Well, I'll get you on the way back
Baby, I'll get you on the plane back
Re: What do you guys think of Fleetwood Mac?
They're not posted here, Dana, but I can upload them. I'm a little hesitant to upload the demo, though. It's very rough and in the lyrics transcription I omitted the copious repetitions! (I'm sure if she had finalized it, it would have been better).
Re: What do you guys think of Fleetwood Mac?
About lyrics Don wrote with Stevie in mind.... since he co-wrote a lot, it's hard to pin down. To my knowledge, he's never said that he has written about Stevie. Some Stevie fans have speculated, though, that he might have thought a bit about Stevie when writing "Life in the Fast Lane" or even "Victim of Love." Though I have no proof, I have always wondered if she inspired at least in part "Not Enough Love in the World" or "Miss Ghost." Stevie has always had kind of a witchy thing going on. ;)
Re: What do you guys think of Fleetwood Mac?
Stevie is very prolific, isn't she? Has she ever estimated how many songs she has written over the years?
I agree, "Not Enough Love in the World" could have references to her--it was written early in Don's solo career, perhaps not too long after they stopped seeing each other.
And "Miss Ghost"--love it! I definitely thought of her when I heard him sing it the first time.
Re: What do you guys think of Fleetwood Mac?
I don't think even she knows! I have over 70 songs she's never released, and there are hundreds of different demo versions of both those and released songs (I have over 500 of those). Prolific indeed at one time, although lately, she seems to have stopped writing. :( But I told her at the AHI 2005 meet'n'greet (the one where I also met Don): "Please never stop sharing your music with us."
Re: What do you guys think of Fleetwood Mac?
This reminds me, I once has a debate with a fellow Stevie fan over whether or not "Heart of the Matter" was about Stevie. I remember one of my first posts on Eagleland was about that!
