But if I had that time machine (or had been born 10 years earlier...), yeah, I don't think.. Well, like Lay's potato chips, one just isn't enough. Heheheh. (and I'd want to be sober. Wouldn't want to miss a thing.) :woah:

BTW - I used postimage.org to post this since the Photobucket fiasco and as you can see, it worked fine. I tried Imgur first, but couldn't figure out how to get it to work.
The use of Old Black very deliberately recalls Glenn. I would not be surprised if the staging might have been inspired by this photo as well, considering the hair length.

Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
My goodness, Deacon certainly has the head for his father! Yes Soda, thats next on my list too. I have to see how to resize it first.
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
Definitely his pose and positioning recalls that picture, and I agree the nose, mouth and eyebrows are identical, his eyes don't look at deep set and can't tell if they blue or brown. Also nice he isn't an exact copy, particularly in his clothing style I wonder if he sounds like his dad when he sings those songs, couldn't tell from those LA benefit concerts
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
He has brown eyes and is 6'2" - much taller than Glenn. Guess the height must come from Cindy's side of the family.
Someone on one of the Eagles FB fan pages confirmed he was "dressed" by the same person who outfitted them for the KCH(they follow the stylist on instagram). I like his jacket too, it really makes old black stand out.
On a side note, I was watching some old videos on you tube a while ago and someone posted(under a false name) that they had been to a 3rd encore party and has a great time. People kept asking questions and she never responded to them. I was like holy crap, someone has finally admitted being at a 3rd encore party! lol
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
I had also wonder where Deacon got his height from too. Its definitely not from Glenn. LOL I guess Taylor and Otis got Glenn's colored eyes while Deacon got Cindy's colored eyes.
The stylist did a great job with Deacon. I love the jacket and the shoes. I like the dresses Cindy and Taylor had on at the KCH this past December.

Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
@New Kid: LOL on someone finally admitting to being at a 3rd Encore party. Heheh. If I'd ever been, I'd probably admit it, though. If they were like other after show parties I've heard about from reliable sources, it was mostly a bunch of people milling around, going from hotel room to hotel room, drinking a lot of beer and smoking pot. There were always people who came just because someone invited them. They'd have a beer and leave in a couple of hours, not much worse for wear. The stories are almost always better than the actual event. LOLOLOL. Although some are true.

Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
It's a screen cap, but not a bad one, from Glenn's appearance on Letterman in 1984, singing "Desperado".

Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
Thanks Pippin - I love watching him on DL. JMHO, but I think Glenn sings it almost as good as Don on that show.
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
Thanks Pippin for the pic!!! :D I love that performance too and Glenn playing piano.
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
I looooove watching Glenn on keyboards. He has this beautiful, light touch that's magical. And of course, he sang "Desperado" as beautifully as Don. Different, but wonderful.
The song I wish I could have heard him sing lead on is "You Never Cry Like a Lover." Gawd. My toes would be curling. LOLOLOL.

From the lovely people at Jing/Screencast, this. I know it's been posted before, but this particular shot reallly gets you a good look at those gawrgeous eyes.

Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
Love it, PW! I have often wondered about the rest of this interview of which only snippets were shown on HOTE. Does anyone know if more can be seen elsewhere?
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
FF - who knows..... I bet there is a lot of footage left of those interviews. They were obviously edited down for HOTE. Someone here posted that Don said at his birthday meet and greet that they "may" release the whole capital center concert. We know they filmed the concerts over two days. In fact, I would venture a guess that they have a lot of footage that was "discovered"/released for HOTE. And of course, this is after they said they did not have anything in terms of footage/unreleased songs from the 70's.
Pippin - Thanks for that photo of Glenn. He looks so hot there. :smokin:

Given how large the 3E parties were I always wondered whether they rented a suite and whether they required participants to sign confidentialty agreements and provide proof of age? IIRC in the HOTE documentary they interviewed one girl who didn't sound all that thrilled /impressed with the opportunity to party with the Eagles lol
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
@Dawn. LOLOLOL. Yeah, she turned up her nose and said one of "them" smelled like beer, so she wasn't interested. It was pretty funny.
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
Pippin - I laughed when I saw that scene !
Dawn - Don F.'s book said they would rent a suite where they held the parties. They had catered food, beer in the bath tub and, I'm sure various drugs for those who wished to indulge. I don't know what they did before they got famous and had the money to do that. That scene was at a frat type house after the concert at the college. I would not be surprised if they carded the kids. But, then you always have fake DL's and ID's.

Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
I don't know if any of you ever listen to "Something Good" on Saturday afternoons on Sirius 60s on 6, but it's a lot of fun. Peter Noone from Herman's Hermits hosts it and he tells a lot of funny stories about life on the road during the 60s, and also discusses parties and that kind of thing. He said the guys in Zeppelin used to have the roadies card all the girls before they got back to the parties. They'd also write the names down of "promising" candidates and make a note of whether they were legal or not, to avoid complications. Lordy.
And as for the "smells like beer" comment, yeah, that made me LOL, too. However, if we were discussing Sugar, a couple of peppermint LifeSavers covers a multitude of sins... 8)
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
Pippin - lol ! I'm not sure who that girl was talking about either. But, Bernie was still in the band and they had that scene with Dan F. making out with a girl.
Interesting that no one has ever come forward to give an interview about those parties. Even if they signed a conf. agreement I can't imagine it holding up 40 -45 years later. But, I'm not an attorney. Like some of us have said before, oh to have been a fly on the wall there. ;)
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
You know, I doubt any of the girls signed anything, just because that kind of thing was not common in the 70s. If they did, they were in the minority of bands. I suspect we're just not talking to the right people. LOLOLOL.
And on a related topic from HOTE, do we know whose bare backside that is in the creek during the Aspen segment? I know who it's NOT (dadgum it -- what a screenshot!), but do we know the owner? I'm just curious.
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
I think the Aspen nudity is just stock footage, just like the London buses and the "teapot" boiling.
The screencap from the 1977 interview reminds me of how young Glenn looked in that part. He doesn't look like a 28-year-old.
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
Pippin - UTW is right - just screen shots of the hippies to give people an idea how wild Aspen was then. It was not necessary in my opinion - just confused a lot of people who thought it may have been the guys.
UTW - I agree with you, he looks about 20 years old. I thought the teapot and buses were unnecessary too. Just as the piggy bank scene at the bank was when Don talks about how hard his Dad worked to save money for his college education. They could have just gone with the voice overs, which I think would have been better.
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
Ran across this on Google Images. Photographer: Barry Schultz. 1975 at Glenn's LA home. Bet his mom or gramma made the afghan on the sofa. I looove this one.

Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
Thanks Pippin - Glenn in his fart shirt -lol ! I think that's the house he shared with Don. Not sure though.
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
It could be. I don't know. I was just going by the photo caption. The pic of him with the two black cats was made at this photo session. I suspect he liked cats, since he had both in his lap. You don't have two cats in your lap unless you're pretty fond of them. LOL. Another reason to love him!
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
And some things never change. Only a 20-something guy would think a "fart" shirt would be appropriate for a photo session. It takes a while for some of them to get out of the locker room.... LOLOLOL.

That's one (of many many things) I love about Glenn, he always looked younger than his age and had an innocent, boyish look to him (even if he wasn't innocent ;) ).
About the 3E parties...I find it strange that none of these girls want to talk about their experiences. There are plenty of stories about sexual exploits of other bands of the era, but very little about the eagles.
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
And you can bet your bottom dollar that boyish face, blue eyes, and killer grin probably got him out of no telling how many scrapes over the years. I mean, if I had him in a high school class and he turned that grin on me, it would have been a struggle to tell him to write that extra essay because he was running his mouth in class, or reading a guitar or car magazine, or didn't do his homework.
Or as the hotel manager looking at a classic case of "room trash" and he gets the puppy dog look. "Please, let us go. Don't call the cops."
"OK. Go on."
LOLOL. I'd be a lost cause.
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
Totally agree Pippin, I wouldn't stand a chance, LOL.
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
Pippin - Glenn loved cats. He had a cat named "Charlie" who had a Charlie Chaplin type mustache, thus the name. I did not know that picture of him holding the cats was taken at the same time. That must also be from the same photo shoot where Glenn is sitting on a ledge with a can of coke in his hand.
I wonder if one of the cats is Charlie ? I read an interview years ago(back in the 80's) where he stated he loved cats and dogs and stated he had two dogs and a cat.
Groupie - I know right ! Not a single 3e party story out there for us to read about !
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
Love that photo too and the others from that shoot. And cracking up at your comments Pippin but I totally agree with you as I wouldn't stand a chance either. LOL
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
See? I KNEW I loved him for many reasons. He was also a cat person! I kind of doubt either of those cats in his lap were Charlie, since they were both solid black (no place for a mustache. LOL). I say they were from the same shoot since he's wearing the same clothes, his hair looks about the same length and he has on those spectacularly ratty sneakers. Hehe. Maybe the first wife, whatever her problems were, had a talk with him about dressing well. In some of those 70s pictures, he looks like a ragpicker's child. Or an unmade bed. LOLOLOL. Not that I'd mind too much, but still....;)
If you look carefully in the opening scene of "You Belong to the City," you'll see there's a beautiful Siamese cat in the apartment with him.
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
Pippin - I remember that cat in the video. I think his clothing choices improved after 1975 - he did not dress in ragged jeans anymore and wore more button down shirts. Also, who can forget the yellow socks in that photo shoot ! I guess those were the only clean socks as he needed to do his laundry-lol ! I also think all those pictures were taken during the same photo shoot. Gotta love a guy who loves animals.
His first wife was a deb from Texas and from a wealthy family. They started dating around 1976. Maybe she had an effect on his clothing choices. He sure learned fast as he was a sharp dresser from 1980 onward.
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
I wouldn't bet those yellow socks were clean. Lol. Probably what was on top of the pile and matched. Assuming they actually matched. There's no telling. Unless he had a cleaning lady come in, I'm betting the filth was legendary. Lolololol
-
Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
Pippin - Lol ! I remember reading articles stating that when Glenn and Don lived together Glenn was the "lovable slob" and Don was like Felix Madison-lol I have a feeling Glenn was like my 20 something nephews who were slobs when it came to taking care of their bedroom/dorm rooms/college apt. When I went to visit I would have to walk around the dirty clothes on the floor and could not help myself to gather up the numerous soda and water bottles all over the place. I did not touch the dirty dishes...
I would guess that changed after he had enough money to pay someone to clean.

@GoranV: Great pic! Thanks for sharing it!
Glenn's hair looks better than the girlfriend's! LOL.

Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
Great pic of Glenn and his GF and I love the turquoise ring he's wearing. Wish we could see his cuff bracelet.

Re: Frey Fever : The Glenn Frey Photo Thread
A new one to me, anyway. No info on the photographer or origin. Just, yum, yum.
