Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
My personal opinion is that is very little difference in the quality of most of the songs in this competition. As I said earlier in the game, I believe that they are all very high quality and worthy of being in the game. I attempted to rate them with regard to music, lyrics, vocals, harmony, melody, and arrangement as I normally do in these games, however, I really was unable to do it. I think Already Gone is a great song, and the only time I personally use songwriting credits against a song is when I believe all of the other criteria I listed is equal. So, since one of these awesome songs has to go and one of them wasn’t written by any of the band members …
I cast my vote for Already Gone.

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: Results of Round 5
The next song to be eliminated in Eagles All-Star Song Survivor is Already Gone. “Already Gone”, the tribe was talking just the other day and, let me tell ya, we’ve got some news for you. You won’t be singing the victory song because we have put you on a shelf. You can stop and wonder why, but we just felt like we had to set things right. Now, pretend you’re already gone and leave the island immediately.

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
We're really getting down to it now. Whew. I don't know what I'm going to vote for.
Heartache Tonight has such a fierce ebullience.
New Kid in Town has such a poignant beauty.
And Take It Easy.... there's just something about Take It Easy. Whenever I hear it, my spirits immediately lift. And it's the one that started it all.
I just don't know!

I hear ya, Soda! This is hard! It's too hard!
I need to think about it...

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
This is so hard! I guess I'll have to vote for Heartache Tonight. I truly love this song and it was so rare that Glenn had a chance to really rock, but trying to be objective, it is the weakest of the three.

Well - the participation this round is pitiful. Hopefully, we will have some last minute voters come in ...
In any event, as much as I hate to do it, I have to vote for something, so as painful as it is ...
I cast my vote for Heartache Tonight.

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: Results of Round 6
The next song to be eliminated in Eagles All-Star Song Survivor is Heartache Tonight. “Heartache Tonight”, the tribe is gonna hurt someone before the night is through. Nobody wants to go home now cause there’s too much going on. But this night can’t last forever, so we won’t beat around the bushes. We have turned out the light on you, so sometime before the sun comes up, you must be off the island. Heartache Baby! The two remaining songs may return to camp ...

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
Ugh...all the rockers are gone. :(
Well for me this is pretty easy. The "Eagles" have always had two major songs, and one really is better than the other. I'm a little tired of the other one, which is one of the contenders here, so I'm going to put this truck in reverse and vote for:
New Kid In Town for the win!
-
Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
Sorry guys - I teach a night class that ends at 8, and I missed the buzzer! I should have just sucked it up and voted right away.
And that's what I'll do now.
Despite how much I adore the emotional power, musical sophistication, and impassioned vocals of "New Kid in Town," I'm going with the Eagles' first big hit and the song so many people associate with them. Yes, the majority of it was written by Jackson Browne, but it truly is a defining EAGLES classic.
TAKE IT EASY FOR THE WIN.

I'm voting for my favorite song by Glenn New Kid In Town. I love the vocals and the arrangement. It deserves to win.

Well, dang it... I kept thinking there was something I was supposed to do last night. Oh, well... looks like I couldn't have saved Heartache Tonight anyway.
I vote for New Kid In Town to win.

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
Oh no, all these votes for NKIT to win over TIE? :fear: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo o
I do really love NKIT, but........
TAKE IT EASY FOR THE WIN!!!!!!
It's always been my very favorite Eagles song and deserves the win as EVERYONE in the world knows who sings it! Their band defining song!

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
I don't know, tlr. The vote is very close this round so I wouldn't count New Kid in Town out just yet. We'll have to wait and see how many votes are still out there to be counted.

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
This is like choosing between my children. Voting for New Kid In Town.
-
Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
Take It Easy to win! I love NKIT but Take It Easy is the essential Eagles song to me. It did start it all, and it always puts me in a good mood whenever I hear it.

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
As far as TIE vs HC being their defining song or the song they are most known for, I'd argue HC takes that one, but TIE admittedly isn't far behind. But I think they are more known for their later work and HC was just such a big song that I think everyone knows it and that it's an Eagles song, IMO to a slightly more extent than TIE. Both are the band's signature songs as far as I'm concerned. TIE for early era, HC for later.
My problem with TIE is that I've kind of tired of it. While I do love the song, I don't *really* love it, and I think because of that it has lost some of it's luster for me over the years. Especially the studio version. Where as I've never tired of HC, being that it's my favorite. When I do like hearing it, I really want to hear a revved up version like they used to do it with electric guitars OR maybe the HFO version with Joe's solo.
I have more appreciation for NKIT now than I ever have and it's slowly moved it's way up on my list of favorites. I like soft/light rock more than soft country, so even though it's softer music than I go for being more of a hard rock fan, it appeals to me the same way Matchbox 20, Train, or another light rock band song might. There's a peacefulness to NKIT for me, that I don't even get with PEF - despite it's name, lol. It defines melodic. I don't get a big country vibe from NKIT like I do TIE, PEF, Lyin' Eyes, Tequila Sunrise, Desperado, etc. It's definitely one I didn't like in the beginning, but it has really grown on me in recent time.

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
I'm going to go ahead and vote now because I have to go out and run a quick errand before it gets too late. I'll post the official results of the game when I get back. I absolutely adore both of these songs and, personally, I never tire of them. I have gone back and forth about what to vote for, and, ultimately decided to go with the definitive Eagles song that is 'how it all started' ...
I VOTE FOR TAKE IT EASY FOR THE WIN!!!

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: And the winner is ...
Well, this was close between the new kid in town and the old guy. There were great expectations because everybody loves the new kid, don't they. But in the end, the old guy just decided to take it easy as he road down the road trying to loosen his load. He knew that in the end our sweet love was going to save him. The winner of the Eagles All-Star Song Survivor is ...

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
I don't believe it - been incredibly busy here the last few weeks since the schools reopened and I thought the vote finished tonight. Still due to its place as an Iconic song I would have voted for Take it Easy anyway so all is good. Thanks to Dreamer for organising the Survivor and Congratulations to TIE!
-
Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
:yay: Congrats to Take It Easy!
Whew, that was a close one too! I love both songs, but TIE will always come out the winner for me. Just too many years and memories to go with it!
And Austin, I would agree with you about possibly HC being more definitive of the Eagles though. It was huge for them.
Thanks to Dreamer for all the hard work here too! You rock!
-
Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
Wow, that was close! Well, both songs were very deserving. I wouldn't have been sad for either one to win.
CONGRATS TAKE IT EASY!!!
-
Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
Dreamer thanks for all the work you do regarding these contests. And Austin, I agree, HC has become their signature song world wide. Anyone, any where hears that song thinks "Eagles". I think HC is overplayed on the radio - at least around here - lol. However, I like TIE and NKIT more than HC. Just MHO though.
-
Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
Thanks again, everyone.
And ...
CONGRATS TO TAKE IT EASY!!!
I agree with what most everyone has said here. I adore both of the final songs, but in the end I decided to go with the one that started it all.
And while I agree that Hotel California may be a bit more of the definitive song for the band, I think it is very close. I think Take It Easy is the definitive song from the band's early country-rock years and Hotel California represents the band's later more rock-oriented years. I can't imagine an Eagle's concert without both songs and both gave me chills every single time I saw them live.

That's fair. That's how I feel about TIE - I'm just burnt out a bit. I think if a song is your favorite you never burn out - because after years of over-listening to HC, I never burn out. It's weird...

There are some songs I never get sick of either! I wonder how the voting would go, if it was TIE vs HC...

Probably depends if your a country/country-rock fan or a straight up classic rock/70s rock fan. I'm always the latter. For me I like my guitars loud and crunchy with wailing vocals. Fortunately the Eagles had enough of that going on in the late 70s to make me happy. But fans of the vocal harmonies and early era will probably choose TIE. I'm not a vocal band guy. But I don't like instrumental music either, so there you go. I'm complex. :hilarious:

Re: Eagles Song Survivor: All-Star Songs
Yeah - for me, personally, I love all iterations of the band and I don't ever get sick of hearing them. I'm easy when it comes to Eagles songs - there aren't any songs in their entire catalog that I can't listen to.

Well, there are a COUPLE Eagles songs that I can't listen to with a smile on my face....
But the thing about the Eagles is not only that they don't have a lot of duds. It's also that they don't have a lot of mediocre and "Just OK" songs, which is the case for most groups. What sets them apart is that so many of their songs are FANTASTIC. That's what makes the Eagles special.
