Thread: Pebble Beach 2006

Going back to my intention to write, I too have been wondering about stationery, and what sort of pen to use, and whether to address him as 'Glenn' or 'Mr Frey'. I'll probably end up writing about five versions and tearing them up before I'm happy, and even then will wonder if I've done the right thing - sad, isn't it?!

Well, after searching 5 nearby bookstores to no avail, I finally decided to drive across town to Hallmark. I bought a cute set with little guitars on it. Now, perhaps this is cringe-inducingly cheesy, but the rest all had ribbons and roses, or little teddy bears for birth announcements or something. There was nothing plain! I bought 20 sheets because I know I'll mess up and tear up sheets too.

I'm not going to get my hopes up about getting a reply - I'm not doing this for that, and he certainly doesn't owe me one. I'm doing this to express my appreciation, and that it does, even if it's a bit schmaltzy. OK, a lot schmaltzy.

Say 'Dear Glenn'. You're a fan. Good luck with doing it. I don't think I could.

Whenever we've written to band members we've addressed them as "Mr. Henley" or "Mr. Frey" or even "Mr. Azoff" <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"> We've felt like we don't know them personally so it's not appropriate to use their first names and we want to show them respect.

But you have to do whatever you're comfortable with.

I went ahead and put "Dear Glenn." He's such a sweet guy - somehow I don't think he'll be too affronted. However, you can bet if I were writing to Irving, it'd be Mr. Azoff, and I can see how Don might like Mr. Henley better, too.

I would probably tear a sheet of paper off my legal pad and say something like "Dear Sugar - Geez, I have been thinking about you all day and ....." Yeah - I'm thinking it's best if I don't write at all. But good luck to those of you who do!

So you think my starting Timothy's letter with "Hey Hotstuff" might have been a tad too strong?

I don't think the salutation was so much the problem as was that naughty picture of yourself that you enclosed!
