I'm glad he's so knowledgeable about London these days.

thanks I enjoyed that article...
very intresting and made me hungry,(love sheppards pie)
sounds like he had fun back in the day
I love interviews like this that give insights into what life was like for them back then. Again, you have to admire the man's memory for detail! I'm also relieved to discover he wasn't staying at the same hotel as I was in London and I'd just missed him, lol.
Imagine if he had been! And you just happened to bump into him!

Glenn Frey 1948-2016 RIP
Glenn sure had a different account than what I had previously read about the recording in London. I read that they did not like working with Glyn Johns, who the recording company put them with & that Johns was very strict with them, not wanting them to smoke pot, but they were bad boys & did it anyway! LOL
Tk, I was kinda remembering the same thing! Maybe he's trying to overlook the bad times and trying to dwell more on some good ones!
"They will never forget you 'till somebody new comes along"
1948-2016 Gone but not forgotten
Well, yeah, I noticed that bit of "revisionist history" about things being a "blast" with Glyn Johns, too - but Glenn probably wanted to be polite in an article that was obviously meant to talk up London and its virtues. Plus, I'm sure they had good times as well as bad.
That said, I have a bootleg of a show from 1973, right after they had gotten back from London where they had recorded Desperado. This was Glenn and Don's assessment of London's culinary offerings at that time:Glenn: "We spent two months in London... the land of the walking dead. No offense to anybody who's from London, especially the Beatles and stuff, but... It's hard to eat over there. You get super-hard pieces of bread and a micro-slice of ham..."
Don: "No Quarter-Pounders."
Glenn: "And after about three days it's hard to go to the bathroom as well as eat."
I spent a week in London when I backpacked through Europe when I was in college (that was in the 70's) & London was our last stop. I also remember that the food was terrible. We thought we would have a big English breakfast, but the eggs were cold & terrible. The dinners were even worse! We went crazy trying to find a Burger King or McDonalds! And to think THAT was the good food!
It rained & was cold every day, This was in August! I was so ready to come home!
On the bright side, I think the food there is a lot better now!
