Oh - I'm not counting either. BTW Molly - I looked at your emoticon and to me it looks like the Allnighter when he spots us at Rama.

Eeeeeeeee! I was listening to the Rama boot this afternoon while trekking around putting money on my Mastercard in order to buy my bus ticket for the trip to Mt. Pleasant, which will be the beginning of my Glenn odyssey...

26 days, excluding today!!! But no, I'm not counting either.

(I should be able to get the directions from Buffalo to Rama up this week...I want to doublecheck with my dad's map book on the best route. I haven't forgotten. )

Okay, so turns out my roomie had a map, too. So, this is what I have come up with...hybrid directions from a map, Google Maps, and my memory. I've included some landmarks to watch out for when you are close to making an exit off a highway...I don't find the highways here to be particularly well-signed, as compared to the US, so I think it's a little easier to have something to warn you you're about to need to pay attention. Also put in about how long it generally takes on the 2 long stretches of driving, in my experience. I didn't include getting onto the highway from the Buffalo Airport...because I've never done that so I'd just be reposting directions from Mapquest or Google or whatever anyway.

    --------

Take I-190 towards Peace Bridge/Canada. (The signs also may say "Queenston-Lewiston" bridge, this is fine too. They're either the same thing, or at least, will both take you to the same place.)

Take Exit 9 from I-190, "Peace Bridge/Ft. Erie, Canada". Google says "Bear left towards Moore Dr., go 72 feet. Continue on Moore Dr., 0.2 miles. Continue on Peace Bridge, go 0.7 miles." You really don't need any of that. As long as you go past the sign that says "Last exit in United States" and continue onto the bridge, you can't miss the border crossing. Go to whichever line you wish, they all end up in the same place.

You exit the Peace Bridge onto the QEW (Queen Elizabeth Way...yep, welcome to Canada). Continue on the QEW (62 miles, as per Google). This will become Highway 403-E...this is fine, stay on it. It will then again become (after 12 miles according to Google) the QEW...again, continue on it, towards "TORONTO-DOWNTOWN". You will eventually enter Mississauga, Ontario, about 2 hours after crossing the border.

Shortly after entering Mississauga (11 miles from where 403-E re-becomes the QEW, according to Google), you will take HWY 427 Exit 139 towards "(HWY 401)/PEARSON AIRPORT". Continue on Highway 427 North about 3.5 miles.

Take the "HWY 401 E/RTE 401" exit ramp, and then continue on Highway 401 East for about another 3.5 miles. You will begin to see signs for Dufferin Street, Yorkdale Road, and Highway 400.

Take the HWY 400 exit ramp north to BARRIE. Continue on Highway 400 north, this goes almost all the way to Rama. Highway 400 merges with Highway 11 after about 50 miles. Follow Highway 11, not 400. 400 will branch off again soon, and will lead you far far away. Continue on highway 11 towards ORILLIA/NORTH BAY. You will be on this same highway for an hour, an hour and a half roughly, potentially more depending on traffic. You should begin to see signs for Orillia, as well as Casino Rama towards the end.

Take Exit 131A, "HWY 12 S" to ORILLIA. Remain on Highway 12 South. You will only be on here a few minutes before the exit to Rama--don't worry, at this point, there are massive signs EVERYWHERE to direct you.

    --------

I hope that was helpful to those of you driving out of Buffalo...I don't like the Mapquest/Google directions alone simply because they tend to not be too clear when something is the *exact same road* as you are already on, which has caused major panic in people I have driven with before. As long as you stick with "QEW to 427 to 401 to 400 to 11 to 12", you're just fine.

One more note- Google lists this as taking about 4 and a half hours, a little more. I'd allow at least 6, because it is a Friday...the border will likely be very busy, as will highway 400. Highway 400 is the way to all the cottages up north and all, and gets INSANELY busy over the summertime as people take off early from work and head up north. It gets packed about 3 in the afternoon and stays that way through into the evening. The 401 is notoriously bad for traffic as well.

Okay, one more note...you WILL think you have gone too far, on Highway 400. Trust me...we even thought the BUS had missed the turn-off! You'll go past farms...don't worry. Rama is WAY out in the sticks. Once you've completely left civilization, you're getting close.

And shutting up now. Let me know if I need to clarify anything.

Bree, thanks for the detailed directions! I am absolutely one of those people who panic thinking they have gone too far and missed the exit. The heads up about the roads changing names is great too; Mapquest didn't warn me when I drove from LA to Bakersfield and I was going crazy looking for a highway I was already on.

We should be fine time-wise, since we all arrive in Buffalo rather early. God knows what we will look like though, after having left home in the middle of the night!
