Avatars only show up if you have one in your profile.

Now that I know what an avatar is.... why do they only show up sometimes?

Not everyone chooses to use an avatar - so those folks don't have a picture under their name. You can use a pre-made avatar - they're on the sites like GlennFreyOnline, DonHenleyOnline, etc. in the downloads section, and some are listed here on the board in topics (although fewer than are on the sites). You can also make your own (must not exceed 150 px in width and 200 in height).

Once you've decided what avatar you like, you can go into your profile and select the option for "Edit Avatar." Just follow the uploading instructions there.
