Glenn Frey is a beautiful, beautiful man.
Wonderful review, Bree. Sorry you had unpleasantness the second night (makes you wonder why these people bother) but so glad to hear that Glenn made up for it. He continues to rise in my estimation!

He will be busy touring with the Eagles for the next couple of years. I feel I've missed my chance.

OK, I have just discovered - to my GREAT dismay - that I did not write a detailed review of the Rama shows. However, PLS and I did jot down some memories afterwards. I dug out that old notebook that I have kept with my other Eagles memorabilia so I could post those, at least. If anyone wants to supplement this, feel free!

PLS, PCG, and I were all staying at the casino's hotel. Everybody else was staying at another one, so we were kind of on our own at first. Luckily, before the show, we were able to get together with Dreamer, Molly, and timfan - and the festivities could begin.

    First night

If I recall correctly, Glenn was dressed in his shiny gray suit and lookin' good, as always.

I had a pretty good seat. I think it was the eighth row. However, I was soon to abandon it. We went up to the stage during the second song, "Lyin' Eyes." After the song, Glenn said, "I wasn't quite ready for the big rush down to the stage during that hard rockin' 'Lyin' Eyes'." We laughed. "I assume you all have seats," he added. I was sure he was going to send us back, but he hesitated, then said, "Well, do me a favor - make sure that the people in the front row can still see the show." The first row applauded enthusiastically at this remark. Then Glenn mumbled, "Eh, they're all comps anyway, to heck with 'em." LOL

The next song was "Some Kind of Blue." He went over to the piano to play it. He started up, opened his mouth, then just sang "lalala, lalalalala." He had obviously forgotten the words. He stopped, laughed and said, "Those people walking down the aisle distracted me! What are the words again? Oh yeah, sunny day! One more time. Sunny day." He grinned sheepishly, then started playing again - doing it right this time! He was laughing throughout the song, though. Too cute.

Before "The One You Love," he joked, "This is from my first solo album, which should've been called 'Prelude to Obscurity.'" Of course that wasn't a new joke, but it was still funny.

This was back when "I Love to Watch a Woman Dance" was something NO ONE had heard before. He introduced it with, "I’ll do a new song for you... The Eagles have been working on a record for a long, long, time. I don’t know if we’ll ever get it finished, but we're getting a little closer this year, we had a little push, and we have a few more songs recorded, but we don’t know what’s gonna happen. But this has been kind of sitting in the can, and I’m going to play it for you now." Oh my gosh, we were all so bowled over. His voice was magnificent. I feel so priviledged to have heard it live.

Around this time, some folks shouted "WE LOVE THE SIX STRING!"
Glenn laughed and replied, “I’d love for you to play it for me, I’m about half-way through and my hands are sore.” Poor Sugar!

To our amazement and delight, on that tour, Glenn played another never-before-heard song: "I'll Come Runnin' Back to You." I remember PLS and I later desperately trying to recall every single lyric so we could transmit it back to those who weren't there! You know, I just realized I hadn't put these up yet on GFO either. Wow, I was remiss after that show. (But many of you remember why - poor PLS had a heart attack right after we got back from Rama, in my apartment. Thank goodness she's fine now.)

Anyway, here's how he introduced that song:

"Another song that’s new... I don’t think you’ve heard it before unless you’re really like southern r’n’b aficionados – this was done by a legendary guy named Eddie Hinton – friend of mine – English drummer – the English have been very good about helping us understand American rhythm and blues – otherwise we’d just have Pat Boone’s version."

Here are the lyrics PLS and I recalled:

I’ll Come Running Back to You
Folks say that you've found someone new
To do all the things I used to do for you
You just call out my name, I'm not ashamed
And I'll come running back to you

    Can't sleep at night, I can't eat a bite
When you were mine I didn't treat you right
    [Sorry, darlin’.]
You just call my name, I'm not ashamed
I'll come running back to you

Just like a king who’s lost everything
I sit all alone on my throne
I've got my pride, but deep down inside
    I'm yours and yours alone

I try to forget, have no regrets
This love of ours could always start anew
You just call out my name, no, I'm not ashamed
Yeah, I'll come running back to you
100 miles... 10,000 miles... all around the world...
I’ll come running back to you

    I’ll come running back
    I’ll come running back
Oh, I’ll come running back to you

    Yes, I will
    Just give me a call!
Doesn’t make no difference where I am
    Los Angeles, Colorado...

    I’ll come running
    I’ll come running
I’ll come running back to you
    Running back to you
    Running back to you
I’ll come running back to you

And there our notes end, sadly. I can't recall many more details, but I sure remember the feeling I had standing up there at the front. It was like a dream come true for me. I had already been to one show at Mt. Pleasant, but were off to the side. It was nothing like being right at his feet, right in the moment with him as we sung along and danced with looks of pure rapture on our faces.

For the curious, here was the setlist:

    Peaceful Easy Feeling
    Lyin' Eyes
    Some Kind of Blue
    The One You Love
    Silent Spring / Tequila Sunrise
I Love to Watch a Woman Dance
    No More Cloudy Days
    Take It to the Limit
I'll Come Running Back to You
    You Belong to the City
    Smuggler's Blues
Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed
    The Heat Is On
    Heartache Tonight
    Take It Easy
    Desperado

Afterwards, Dreamer, Molly, PLS, PCG, and me all went and hung out at a bar... actually several, as we kept closing them down... and relived our experience.

    Such good times!

Some memories from the next day:

Once again PLS and I seemed to miss the boat when it came to hooking up with people on Saturday morning. Part of this was because our rather busy night had made it quite difficult for us to "rise and shine." Another part was that my cell phone didn't work in the hotel, making it impossible for me to call folks and know where to meet up.

Nevertheless, I managed - in my Nancy way - to make a fool of myself.

    Here's the story:

While walking through the casino lobby, PCG saw Will Hollis and Danny Grenier heading towards an elevator. She ran to catch up and PLS and I hustled after her, a bit more slowly, lol. We caught the elevator they were on.

So, we're on the elevator, and we're just standing there awkwardly, scared to say anything. I think, "This is ridiculous," so I turned to Will and Danny and said "Great show last night." They thanked me. I tried to think of something else to say but struggled... mercifully, the elevator stopped and the doors opened. I thought it was our floor and hopped out.

Then, I saw a sign for the pool in front of me. "Huh... this doesn't look right..." Then it hit me - I'd gotten out on the wrong floor. For some reason - and I don't know why - this caused me to go in a panic. I turned and screamed "THIS ISN'T OUR FLOOR!" Everyone on the elevator - including Will and Danny - was like "Um, calm down... it's OK..." Meanwhile, PLS and PCG started to come out after me, looking uncertain. I cried again - this time flailing my arms - "NO, THIS ISN'T OUR FLOOR!" However, since I had made no move to get back in the elevator, preferring instead to act like a madwoman, they came out anyway.

The doors started to close. Someone, I don't know who, grabbed them to open them, but by this time there was mass confusion and everyone was certain that I was insane. PLS and PCG just allowed the doors to close again and calmly said, "We knew it wasn't our floor, Nancy." "WHY, WHY, didn't you TELL me!" I cried. PLS and PCG were looking at each other and I could tell they were thinking something along the lines of "Did Nancy forget to take her meds or something?"

Mortification hit me full force and I turned so red that a guy passing by asked me if I was OK.

I had the pleasure that night of having Danny Grenier point at me and mouth "Elevator girl" during the show.

I sure know how to make myself memorable.

I'll try to remember more about the second night, but with no notes, it's hard!

It's great to read that stuff. I can keep dreaming, I suppose.
