Default 2009 Summer in Las Vegas

Verna got a promotion in the mail yesterday. We always stay on Fremont St when we go to Vegas. We just like the old school feel of that area versus "The Strip".

Well, there is quite a lineup scheduled for the FREE STAGES on Fremont St this summer.

"Big Brother and the Holding Company" (Janis Joplin's band), Jefferson Starship (not sure if Grace Slick with perform), Chicago, and some others scattered throughout the summer. But on Laborday, there is a combo that I'd really like to go out there just to hear. Get this: "Canned Heat" and "Three Dog Night!"

    WOW!!!

    Very cool, Mike!

3 Dog Night would be my pick! I've been reading a bit about them recently and the original lead singer's life story is amazing. I guess he's not with them now, but they should be great.

Yeah, 3DN was one of the most prolific bands EVER. I think I heard or read somewhere that they had more #1 singles than anyone else. Or maybe it was that they had more top 40's than anyone.

I can't recall all of the bands that were appearing there this summer. Old reunionion type groups. Seems like Blood Sweat and Tears were going to be there. I'll have to dig out the flyer. Verna said that we got offers in the mail for Binion's and also from 4-Queens. Personally, I'd rather stay in one of the new suites that El Cortez just opened, but the Tez is about 5 blocks down Fremont from where the other casinos are. And the walk is not a particularly "safe" one though the police have started patrolling the area leading to the Tez a lot more intensely. I love their atmosphere and table games there.

About 18-20 years ago, Three Dog Night gave a free performance in the town where I was living at the time, at the local municipal field, as part of their "Summer Concerts in the Park" Series. It was great to see them perform ALL of their hits!

They were a BIG band when I was in high school in the 70's. Joy to the World was our (very winning) football team's theme song for some reason, so we had the cheerleaders and band leading the fans in the stands multiple times per game in "Jeremiah was a bullfrog!..."

Oh, "Grass Roots" is scheduled to play too. The list is pretty amazing. We saw "Paul Revere and the Raiders" a couple of years ago. Corney, but they could still sing!

Grassroots? Yikes, I loved them too!

And Three Dog Night. Pieces of April was the theme for our prom. And I love Never Been To Spain and Joy To The World. Ok, too many memories! "I'm going back in time and it's a sweet dream....."

Yup, there are a lot of "oldie but goodie" free concerts in the parks around here. Actually, Paul Revere and the Raiders was another band in that same series (I'm guessin' about the summer of '90.) Over the years, we've seen not only Three Dog Night-- but the Turtles, Davy Jones, Gary U.S. Bonds, among many others whose names escape me at the moment!
