Too much to say and my mind just isn't what is used to be, so I'll do my best and the others can fill in. I arrived shortly after 5:00 to meet Soda, TimothyBFan and Prettymaid. (Three of the sweetest ladies, really, they are!) I really didn't think people would be lining up, as it was bar, but I was very wrong. There were some girls there since 3:00. (Dedication I tell you!) We got in line probably around 5:30 ish. This is when we started chatting it up w/several other die hard fans that were there. We swapped stories about shows we've been too and other stuff fans do. Finally, at 8:30, yes, three hours later, we were let into the music area. During this 3 hour period, I also had the pleasure of meeting ConnieK, what a sweet lady she was too! Actually, everyone we met was just so happy and excited to be there, that really added to the experience.
Ok, they are letting people in and TimFan was lucky enough to be front and center. (WTG) TimothyBFan was right up to the stage to the left so I'm sure she'll have awesome pics to share! Prettymaid, me and Soda was right behind. We had a great place to view our boy! Approx at 9:00 the side door, right next to us opened and it was Jean and Timothy. Someone escorted Jean somewhere near the back and Timothy went to the stage. Here's the thing, from the door to the stage was probably about six footsteps. It was pretty small quarters.
Timothy is handed a guitar and walks up to the mic. No hellos, just leads right into The Shadow. Beautiful, really nothing more to say. After that, he welcomed us. He then played Friday Night. I was singing along, as I had the whole song memorized. (thanks myspace!). The rest of the set list went like this, Compassion, One More Mile, ICTYW, White Boy, Keep on Tryin’, What Am I Gonna Do, Parachute, I Don’t Mind, Ella Jean, Downtime, Secular Praise, A Good Day… the encore was IDWTHA and an acoustic LWKUA.
Here are the things that stuck out to me. White Boy was fun and upbeat, you could tell he had fun with it.. He introduced it as this being an autobiographical song if ever there was one. I loved Keep on Tryin’ because to me, it was a way of him tending to his roots and honoring is past. The highlight of the show for me was when he covered the old Poco tune, What Am I Gonna Do. I knew every word, but sung along low because the place was so quiet except for Timothy, you could have heard a pin drop. The band left the stage and it was just him and his acoustic guitar belting out this lovely song. He also had wonderful things to say about Richie Furay, and I so admire him for that. While it wasn’t a song off of Expando, it was still my highlight. I was actually touched. When he introduced Parachute, he said that they are hoping to get that song on the radio. Then he made some cute comment about they can pick any of his songs to play on the radio, but I don’t recall the exact quote. Ok, Timothy shattered my dreams of him falling madly in love with me and swooping me off to a remote locale when he sang Ella Jean. It is so very clear how in love with her he is after all these years. He basically said she was in Hawaii doing a project and he missed her, so he wrote the song. (How freaking sweet is that?) For Have a Good Day, he shed his guitar and bass… just a little harmonica was all he had, and that was fun little song. That was it for the CD. He walked to the side of the stage for a second and came back. He said (paraphrasing), “I’m not gonna pretend to go off somewhere and come back, because there is no dressing room here. To go to a dressing room, I’d need a coat and muffler”. I think it’s funny that he thought it was so cold and Jean was dressed w/a scarf and all, because I was wearing short sleeves and a lightweight jacket. In any case, he sang his ampted up version of IDWHA, and it was really good! I mean really good! Then, everyone left the stage except for him and Hank. Hank played guitar and Timothy sang Love Will Keep Us Alive. Wow, what a perfect way to hear that song. He did a fantastic job!
Plenty more stuff to add, but I have to save something for the other girls to say! All in all, it was great fun and I met a lot of cool people. Now, this is what you all really want, pics!
