I'm not a musical expert, but I tend to agree that Tim is using his naturally high voice to sing the chorus of Ella Jean rather than an artificial falsetto. Falsettos usually are a far cry from the natural sound of a singer's voice (reference Fast Company). That's why I hate it when Glenn pulls out the falsetto. It turns his rich, textured voice into a bad Bee Gees impression.

Actually, I find that the catchiest part of the song and I often find myself humming it. "Ellllllla, Ella Jean...." Seems I'm in the minority!

Okay let me try to describe what I consider falsetto.

Everybody now, sing Do re mi fa so la ti do

Did your voice change about halfway through as you went up the scale to a sound with more air in it? If you were singing softly it probably did. That's falsetto. Timothy does it when he sings Ella, Ella Jean where are you?

If you sang the scale loudly you may have been able to do the whole thing without using your falsetto. And, of course if you started low your falsetto probably didn't kick in.

I'm just the opposite. That's what I really like about both songs. It's what really caught my attention to them. I think his voice sounds great like that especially when he sings that way on Ella Jean.

I agree with everyone who has said that the higher parts of Ella Jean and the title word of Compassion are sung in falsetto, and both are my least favourite parts of both songs. Compassion was my next choice to be eliminated.

I cast my vote for I Don't Mind.

Aside from the provocative lyrics, this song doesn’t do a lot for me. If I have to skip a song, this is one I don’t mind.
