Got this in a Google alert. It's an article in the Houston Press Blog speculating who will perform at halftime during next year's Superbowl. It makes my blood boil on more than one account! (See highlighted sections)

    The Eagles
This '70s supergroup has all the requisites for a solid/safe halftime option: They have an "outlaw" aura but are now old enough that it's more quaint than dangerous; the band has a reliable number of hits to choose from for a setlist; and they'll do anything for a buck.
I would also accept an appearance by Fleetwood Mac and/or Jackson Browne.
Pros: Unlikely to move around enough to injure themselves, Joe Walsh no longer capable of coherent speech.
Cons: Set might consist of nothing but solo Glenn Frey cuts.
    Odds: 10 to 1
Also, Glenn has stated in a relatively recent interview that the Eagles will never play the Superbowl.

"The set might consist of nothing but Glenn Frey cuts"? Seriously? Since he doesn't sing any in their concerts now, I'd say that's highly unlikely! Jeez I wish before these idiots write this stuff they'd research a bit first.

Sounds like just another cheap shot by a writer who is so lacking in talent they have to knock anybody who actually has some.

I just roll my eyes at articles like that. Nothing but Glenn Frey solo cuts? Obviously this guy has never been to an Eagles concert or seen their setlist. As for the anything for a buck crack, they turned down an offer to play the superbowl a few years ago. Apparently this guy didn't get the memo.

That comment, sadly, is a reflection on the ignorance of many people in the media. My guess is that even if there was a shred of accuracy in it, the only Glenn Frey tracks the writer has even heard are THIO & YBTTC.

The 'pro' comment about Joe is beneath contempt.

This guy's obviously never been to an Eagles concert. And the comment about Joe is just horrible.

Honestly...I really hate it when reporters don't do their homework before they write their stories. All they have to do is Google!

"The NFL does not pay the halftime show performers an appearance fee, though it covers all expenses for the performers and their entourage of stagehands, family, and friends.[1] According to Nielsen SoundScan data, the halftime performers regularly experience significant spikes in weekly album sales and paid digital downloads[2] due to the exposure."
IMHO our guys simply can't see any point in putting forth all the effort required for just 20 minutes of television exposure and some additional sales! Besides which I don't think any of them are zealous football fans!

As I was watching the halftime show the other night, I thought about them being offered the spot and cringed. That sort of over the top extravaganza just isn't their style. Good for them to have the guts to say "no, thanks" to the Super Bowl.
