Default Kid in trouble (My niece)

Sadly, this last Weekend we had a Family reunion wich was called for my younger (34) brother to les us know, , Mom and bros, his little girl, Fatima, 5 years old, has been diagnosed with this thing in one of her eyes, basically, shes’s become blind of one eye, because in her early life she was not using enough both eyes but one, so one became lazy, and has lost about 90% of vision (Bad signal from eye to brain).

Since the stu…Doctor he saw gave him no hope, as he said there was practically nothing to do (No surgery, no treatment, no proper age), he was dsestroyed, so we talked long with my brother.

I said to him several things like 1) Kid’s recovery capacity in most illness is almost miraculous, different from grown people 2) Long ago we are into the 21th. Century. Tec Med advances must have something! 3) See several Doctors, not just one, starting with experienced Old Good Folks, but also young raising Doctors 4) That goes also for Doctors outisde Town like Mexico City, Phoenix Arizona even LA. 5)Look into Internet. The Web has great resources as asking advice in Bigshot Doctors all over the World who kindly answers via Chat and so…

Beins said so, my Border friends, I ask for your help, maybe you know of similar cases, either about some Clinic - Ophthalmologist you can direct me, or other sources to reach for info' -help. The condition it’s called Amblyopia I believe.

    Thanks!!

LR, I agree your brother needs to see another doctor. If this is really amblyopia (lazy eye) and there isn't another problem it could be treatable. A friend from my old job had a granddaughter with the problem and she was able to be helped. She was a bit younger (about 2) when she was diagnosed and I don't think she had lost quite as much vision but they were able reverse the problem to the point where she has vision in both eyes although she has to wear glasses. They used an eye cover and later special glasses to treat the problem - I remember because my co-worker talked about it a lot at the time.

Your brother needs to not give up yet. Convince him to take Fatima to a specialist - an eye doctor - even one especially for children if you can find one. There are no guarantees but she certainly deserves the chance to get better and you are right when you say kids can often heal better than adults.

LR - I am sorry I have no idea what doctor treated my co-workers granddaughter other than he was in Portland, Oregon at the time. But this was probably close to 15 years ago and the woman who I worked with has retired and moved away. I wish I could give you more details.

I did look on the internet and there is a website called www.optometrists.org that has a search page to look for doctors and therapists specializing in pediatric eye care in numerous countries including Mexico. Maybe it would be helpful?
