Don on the MTV Video Music Awards

I posted about Glenn in his forum, but here's a still of Don as he presents for Best Group Video:







And Boys of Summer won Best Video!

Ah, memories. Nice to see that outfit again. Don was very humble when he won his Best Video award. He didn't even seem to want to say anything. He said 'gee, this is'.... or something like that. Unlike Glenn who was his usual exuberant self.

lol. He was like "Actually I had very little to do with the video" - he intially had a different idea for it and the final video was "Plan C." He gave all the credit to the art directors and the guys who conceptualized and filmed it, and joked that all he did was grimace in the camera as they drove him around. But it worked out great!

I believe he said all he did was ride around LA in the back of a truck in the freezing cold and "grimaced" into the camera.



Don and Glenn were very over-dressed for the occasion, imo, but they looked great.

I don't think they were very overdressed at all. Many of the presenters and performers were dressed up, with a few notable exceptions such as Eddie Murphy and David Lee Roth.

I didn't think they were overdressed either but perhaps I was so stunned by the tux I didn't care. I loved Glenn's 'may it snow in your face' line.


Don said they tried to make Southern California look like France. To this day I have wondered what he meant. Given the lyrics of Drivin' With Your Eyes Closed from the same album, had he visited France before recording that song and making the BOS video?

I didn't get the impression he necessarily wanted it to look like France, but these guys working on it - the director, the cinematographer - they were all French. I think it was their idea! lol

Why did it never occur to me that that's all it was. I always expect Don to have something 'profound' on his mind - the Drivin' With Your Eyes Closed thing, however, still sprang to mind.

Well MTV got it right that year - BOS deserved to win Best Video.


I love that video. I never tire of watching it - I know, I know .....

I'm just a hired hand working on the dreams I plan to try. The days go by...

I've only ever seen clips of the show.....never have seen all of it. I just thought since the host was wearing a sweater it made Don and Glenn seem a bit over-dressed. Oh well.
