I'm not familiar with the George Jones song, so I went and looked it up. George Jones was a notorious alcoholic for many, many years - and that song was written in the thick of 'em when he was married to Tammy Wynette, who was one of many trying to get him to slow down on the substance abuse. His response: "I just don't give a damn." I wonder why Don chose to cover the song. Does he just like it and think it's well-suited for his voice, or does it additionally have some sort of personal resonance with him?

Well you might be on to something Nancy as Henley seemed a bit inebriated, not Richie Sambora inebriated, but he was very feisty and a wee bit frisky. The testerone sure was flowing and he appeared to be having a rip roarin' time but, WTF, so was I. Anyway, I just chalked it up to getting a couple months of rest. He also made reference, during his Joshua Tree peyote story, to the fact that, despite it all "I still have my liver and a few other things..HaHa!" Everyone knows those Texas boys love their B&B (Bourbon and Branch) and 3 fingers of whiskey backs.

But aside from that, Don is certainly a man's man whether he's a two-fisted drinker or not. I've noticed at Don's shows, you tend to see more men unabashedly dancing and singing than at the Eagles or TBS shows. I had two guys at the stage vying with me to get a set list from Friday's show instead of two other women as normally happens.

Oh dear, it might be my cynical mind - but the singing of those two songs and the fact that Don was a little bit inebriated doesn't bode well
I really hope it is just me!

Oh, I didn't mean to imply I thought the "personal resonance" was that Don had become an alcoholic! Being a bit buzzed doesn't equal alcoholism. Don has said that he doesn't indulge in substance abuse anymore, and I believe him.

I also didn't mean to imply that he was having some kind of personal problems.

I was thinking more along the lines of the less obvious kinds of emotional resonance. Sometimes we can take a song that's about one thing and apply it to certain aspects of our lives even if the entirety of the song - or its original intent - doesn't mirror exactly what we're going through.

For instance, he might just be latching on to the "I'll do whatever I want and if you try to tell me I'm making a mistake, I'll just blow you off" vibe of the song. That mentality appeals to many.

Of course not, I wasn't implying that either!

It's just the words to those two songs are a bit errmmm.....sorry Soda i'm not as eloquent as you and i'm having trouble saying what I mean - plus - i've had a few tequilas! not very 'happy' songs maybe?

Don't worry, this is nothing new. Don has never had the reputation of being Mr. Sunshine.

Thanks for the info, CL. I'm glad you had a good time and that Don was in good spirits!

I think I'm suffering a bit of delayed PDW... It feels so long since I saw him, but in reality, it's only been a few months.

I love the fact that he's mixing the set list up a bit. I was lucky enough to see him perform Everybody Wants To Rule The World last year in Oklahoma and it was awesome! Great song. I'm also completely swooning over the fact he did a George Jones track. Love country, LOVE George Jones. One of the best male vocalists ever. "I've Seen Better Days" (with Tammy Wynette) is one of my favourites. He's had one heck of a life, that's for sure! There's a documentary about George Jones where another one of my country faves, Waylon Jennings, is interviewed... It was Waylon who sort of helped to get George back on the road to recovery. Bearing in mind Waylon himself was indulging heavily at that point, even he felt he had to turn around and say something to his friend. Along the lines of: "This is gonna sound awful funny coming from me... but you really need to sort yourself out." Amazingly, and thankfully - he did. Considering Don is a big Merle Haggard fan, it's not surprising he's also into George Jones.

Back to Don... although I mourn the loss of the longer, grey hair and the goatee, he was still looking pretty delectable in those pictures! Cool videos, too. I am really excited about the albums he's got in the pipeline.

Thanks CL!! Sounds a bit different from his other concerts which I feel is good. I wish he'd enlighten us a bit more on the new albums.

I will have to go in a little later and check out the pics and vids.

Love that Don Henley bottled water!

So, did he do a meet & greet before the show? Lots of autographs there.

Don't know but they might have. I saw a lot of Don Henley All Access laminates around the high-rollers necks so maybe they got one. I was at the Agua Caliente casino nearby in July for a Jackson Browne concert and they had a M&G for their high rollers.

Dropped off my film this afternoon. Hopefully the 2 shots I got came out all right

LOL! I thought of you as I was writing that. I can't help it! Loved country since I was little and my sister and I used to sing along to my grandparents' 'country tape' in the car. The old stuff is the best.

    Glad you like the avatar!
