I also saw him during those years. This is the relevant thread. I thought the photos were on JWO but I couldn't find them there.

Here's Joe from the DVD "The Best" a tour he did in '90 from Japan with John Entwistle, Skunk Baxter and Keith Emerson. Doesn't look bad, but he's so wasted he doesn't even finish RMW, it was not a good performance.

This is about what he looked like when I last saw him in '92 before rehab.
Coherent on stage, but he looked so pasty, gray and bloated, sweating like a horse, it was just scary.

And then, to a few weeks ago, Oct '10... what a remarkable story. He should be proud and want to reach out to tell others how good it can be again. Way to go Joe, ya never planned on living this long, but thank god ya did.

Deb, I was moved reading your story about seeing Joe at his worst and then seeing him come through it. Thank you for sharing it.

And yes, Joe definitely should be proud.

I was moved by your story too, Deb. Seeing those pictures - especially how GOOD and healthy he looks now - really brings it home.

I really admire Joe for getting himself straightened out & remaining clean & sober all these years.

Me, too. I'm so glad he's hung in there. I know it must be very hard sometimes.

I've heard Joe say that he felt the start of his drug use was self-medicating for ADD. There's a show about living w/adult ADD on my local PBS station this week. Addictions and other problems are common, but so is creativity and exceptional talent in some area. Some reach extreme heights of success, like Sir Richard Branson...and Joe. There were quite a few musicians with it. Guess any setback can turn into a force for improvement if you can make the best of it.
