Here is my first attempt at recording. Mike will appreciate this if he hears it!

It's a quick blues thing recorded with a Fender Tweed Deluxe preset with my Telecaster '52 Roadworn.

I did listen to it. Sounded really good Austin. But I was SHOCKED! Unbelievable! YOU USED DIGITAL? LOL

Digital has come a long ways since it was first introduced.

Yeah I know right?! But I haven't found a good way to mic my amps yet..... So I plugged straight in.... Being an analog nut that I am - I surprised myself. It actually had that barky Tweed Fender sound and that Tele cut through like a knife through butter.

    Thanks!

Unless you are a professional audio engineer or have a lot of exposure to recording with mics and have a lot of money to spend on quality mics, I'd stick with the digital method you used with your Blues improv. There was nothing wrong with it. What you might be able to get with good microphones would be the essence of a live trial but if you don't get the mics set right, you could end up with something that sounds nothing like what you played.

It's much easier to just plug into your interface and bang away and then tweak it in Garage Band or with your POD. You can get really close to the tone of a particular amp if you have the patience to work with your DAW.

Where the mics really come in is when you are recording an acoustic. Use two mics and point one of them at the bridge and the other at the 17th fret. If you capture those mics on two separate tracks, you can work the recording levels and equalization until you get the brightness you are striving for. That's hard to do when you "plug in" an acoustic unless you have really good pickups and a good clean acoustic amp.

If you do go the mic route and don't intend to do more than casual recording, I'd suggest a set of MLX condenser mics. They sell them at Guitar Center and if you keep your eyes open, you can get a large condenser with a floating mount combined with a pencil mic for well under $100. These aren't good stage mics...to fragile, but they are great for home studios.

I somehow missed this earlier - love it! Great guitar and harmonies. But what happened to "Thinking About The Girl I Love"?

    "Flying" Is my favorite. Nice!

    Who did that clever write-up?

BTW, some of the guitar reminds me of Lindsey Buckingham's more recent work, like on the Under the Skin album. Not bad.

Very cool! Too bad it's so short. You could get a real sweet blues jam going there.

Yeah I just wanted to see how I could record and what sound I could get. So I just recorded a quick little track and left it at that to test the recorder. I am going to try to record another long one when I have time tomorrow though!

    Thanks!
