It is a shame that Glenn only sang three songs, but I agree that it's hard to speculate why. It makes sense that if there was a time limit and/or curfew of about 90 minutes that they would want to rock out more. I can see why they might cut Lyin' Eyes and TITTL, but, if that's the case, why leave in LROOE and cut How Long??? I guess inquiring minds want to know, but, oh well, I guess we never will.
I remember hearing Glenn say in an interview a few years ago (during the Farewell 1 era if Iam not mistaken) that he now prefers to sing the harmony parts & let the others sing lead & play lead guitar. He seems to be leaning more to this as the years pass. Has anybody seen the setlist from Monaco to compare it to the Hop Farm Festival? I haven't been able to find one.

Eagles get a mention at the end of this piece. (Lou, you will enjoy the first bit too. I'm working on the setlist - bit of research to do lol.)

At the Hop Farm Festival they dropped How Long, TITTL and Lyin' Eyes. Otherwise it was the same as Monaco. You can find that setlist in some of the European review topics (Hamburg is one).

My issue is that GLENN's songs are dropped. Nobody else's.

And I'm sorry, but he is as much of a lead singer as Joe and Don are. Surely people would agree that he is still technically a better singer than Joe is at least? A minority of people (well, me) go to see them to hear HIM sing.

If he doesn't want to do it then he doesn't, but as one of his greatest fans, to me this is not what the Eagles are about, and I can't help feeling that way. I feel hurt & confused by this. I wish I didn't but I do.

I have to say that I think the Sun's review about the 'string of lesser known hits' was somewhat telling; because the Joe solo songs are not as well known as any of the songs that have been dropped, except for LBG & RMW (and I'm not even that sure about LBG; but it's a 'crowd pleaser', isn't it). I don't know how well known Dirty Laundry is in Britain.

As for the outfits, I refuse to believe that I heard the words "grey shirt" again...!

I am hesitant to get into another debate about Glenn's songs being dropped, but I do agree that it's difficult to speculate - festival sets ARE different. The show that Steph went to recently was not so extreme. I wouldn't worry too much, although I can understand that Glenn fans present might have been hoping for more. All I will say is that I think Glenn might find the accusation that his "heart is not in it anymore" slightly insulting. He is in his sixties, touring extensively, and he has just announced solo shows. I believe he still has a hunger to do this, and I also believe he would have the integrity and sense to know if the day comes when he absolutely cannot do it anymore. I also very much doubt the idea that Don and Joe are somehow "forcing" their songs on him. From everything we've heard, Glenn is the leader. He makes many of the decisions, particularly regarding set lists. He is in no way a pushover. He has himself stated that "Don is our chief vocalist and chief lyricist" - hey, maybe Glenn is just HAPPY to play guitar and jam for a portion of the concert, without worrying about having to sing lead! Who knows. But I do think some of the theories, once again, are a little over the top, and slightly unfair to Glenn and the other guys.

Yes, Glenn is the leader & writes the setlist. That is what makes this even harder to understand. As I said in the above post only his songs are dropped. Eagles songs. NEVER solo songs & never Don & Joe's songs.

There has to be a way of coming to terms with this & accepting it; but as long as I can't understand why solo songs cannot be dropped I'm afraid I am finding it almost impossible. So I will try & forget this & think about next month, and that will probably be the end as far as I am concerned.

All this probably sounds hysterical & overblown, not to mention selfish from my viewpoint, for which I should apologise, but the fans of the other members don't have this problem.

Also it appears I am the only person on this board who 'has this problem' so it's time I shut up about it.

I'm willing to bet this is just temporary. Something is going on with Glenn that is causing this, but I predict that in Las Vegas, we'll see the normal set back for the Eagles. If that's not the case, then it's very likely the days of the 3-hr sets are over.

Regardless, I for one am profoundly grateful Glenn is doing the solo shows.

FP - you're not the only one who's concerned, but you're the only one who's so extreme in your reactions. Declaring Glenn should "hang it up" and that your fandom will end because he's not performing more leads is much further into the realm of negativity than I have any desire to go.

Lest I forget... thank you for your reviews, ochiba and Annabel!

Always in our hearts, Never forgotten

All of this is true & I can assure you that not only am I also profoundly grateful for the solo shows (as you may have guessed) but I think I have reacted in an extreme way.

Well on this occasion they also dropped Witchy Woman, which isn't Glenn's, it's Don's, and of course Seven Bridges Road for the whole group.

As for The Sun's review, well .............it is The Sun. Enough said. Not one of our 'quality' papers.
LBG charted as well here as it did most places from what I can see. It is the only single I bought of Joe's. (Shhh! Don't tell him.) Dirty Laundry appears on the radio here quite often, at least on mine it does. Also heard it on the radio as we drove home yesterday from another radio station and it was very well received and sung along to at the festival. All the songs were very well received I thought.

Had a good time at the Hop Farm Festival. Great to meet Melanie & Hannah, and Carole(thanks for finding me - twice!).
Getting to Paddock Wood was a nightmare for me as I drove up on Friday afternoon - lots of people driving home from work - and there was an accident just in front(fortunately I didn't see it happen) which blocked the road & it was about 45 mins before the police got everything organised so we were able to turn around & got back down the duel-carriageway the wrong way to get to an exit.(While waiting, I was appalled by a lady driver who was making a fuss about being delayed getting home from work, when they might have been people killed or badly injured in the accident. I had to stop myself going over to her & telling her to just SHUT UP).
Then it was off onto a slow road through a built-up area, with crossing lights ever few hundred yards. It took me about 90 mins to do the last 40 miles!
What we go through for our beloved Eagles. Still in was worth it in the end.

Heard Bryan Ferry as I wallked from the car park & saw the last 20 mins or so of his set, and being a 40+ I knew the songs!

We say the Eagles arrive in their helicopter.

A lot has been said about the set, and it was a little odd I felt, but probably designed to keep it short, fast & appeal to those who are not Eagles fans as such. LROOE was the only one which might not have been known to non-Eagles fans, and maybe that was to say 'Hey, we HAVE done some new stuff recently....go check out the album'.

I wasn't close enough to get any good photos; I'll post a couple, but don't expect them to be good! We watch the screens mainly & used binoculars. Just had to get a close look at my darling Will - and he looked beautiful as usual. Each time I see him he looks more handsome & attractive than the previous time.

Had a good time singing & dancing with Melanie & Carole. I had forgotten they were Eagles virgins.
People around us were calling out between each song for Desperado , and we were answering them with 'not yet'. It came quick enough anyway.

Melanie & Carole - While the Eagles performance was amazing as usual, you must get to see a full show; you've had a 'quickie' but now you need to 'Take it to the Limit' if you get my meaning(apologies to board moderators for sexual inuendo ) Hope you get the chance soon , and that I'll see you there!

I thought the Hop Festival was well organised, except the other stages were too close to the main stage.

The drive home was much better - hardly any traffic & I took the longer but faster route, with the Eagles playing on the cd and me singing along. Had to have a short stop for a coffee at the services to keep me awake.
Got home at at about 3:20am having done a round trip of about 340 miles(8 hours of driving! just for the Eagles and my darling Will).

Whoa Steph !!! those photos are way better than mine, even if you say they aren't good. Nice one. Glad your journey home was less eventful.
