Most of the time guitar techs can play guitar and can certainly play for one song. Some bands even have techs that can fill in for the guitarist if he's sick. It wouldn't make sense for Jackson to bring a guy along to play a short solo during ONE song of the night.
Whoever that guy was, he seemed really excited to be playing with Jackson. He brought a lot of energy to the stage!

Jackson is known for helping new talent, and he's not afraid to share the stage with them.

On his 2008 album, Time the Conqueror, and on subsequent tours, he used two backup singers who he met in 2001 at a South Los Angeles high school. In 2012 and 2013 he toured with Sara Watkins and her band; hardly someone you would consider well known. He even released a concert DVD titled I'll Do Anything with Sara and her band backing him. And I love that Jackson supports and is involved with keeping music education in public schools.

Apparently this is old news, but I just read that JB is releasing a new album this fall!

    Thanks Austin!

I caught the guy's name and confirmed it with the name in this interview! It is JB's guitar tech - a guy by the name of Manny Alvarez!

Thank you!! I thought the guy looked like the guy testing out guitars when we first got into our seats. Pretty cool to have your guitar tech play on that one song... A lot of guitar techs for big names are also good players. I will have to do some reading on him to see if he has any stuff of his own out there.

My request! I wish they would have recorded the end, though.

Thanks for the reviews. Jackson is not coming anywhere near me, but I would so love to see him. Enjoyed hearing about your experiences.
