Default Don Henley Santa Barbara Bowl - 9/24/2011

Got these from Fastlane as well. First one includes pictures of Emmylou Harris (besides Don, of course)

OK, the second review seriously annoyed me. SERIOUSLY annoyed me. I wrote the man a letter and asked him what on Earth he was thinking.

It was a favorable review, but tacky of him to bring up The Incident.

As far as the setlist goes, I see that we're still missing "I've Been Loving You Too Long" and "I Will Not Go Quietly."

Why must these reviewers do things like that?

He replied and acknowledged that it was 'salacious' and 'a cheap shot', and that he'd rethink doing such a thing again.

Well done, VA. If people don't tell reviewers they're unimpressed with the cheap shots they'll just keep firing them, thinking that people are good with it.

Thank you for saying "that's not okay".

Finally got time to read these. What a treat to see Don and Emmylou together! I'd have loved to have heard them sing together!

OK, so I've been on the trail of my darling Will Hollis again. Yes, I've been over to the US for a week or so and went to 2 Don shows - this one and the one at Harrah's Rincon. (I know Melanie and Carole are going to be real jealous...sorry ladies).

What a show at the Bowl! Emmylou was amazing. I hadn't seen her before. Her voice is still as crystal clear and amazing as it was years ago on her older albums. She still gives mention to Gram Parsons, even after all these years(I loved Gram's voice). She did some older songs and some from her new album.

    Emmylou Harris Set List
    Six White Cadillacs
    Orphan Girl
    Red Dirt Girl
    Hold On
    Goodnight Old World
    Hello Stranger
    Poncho and Lefty
    Michaelangelo
    The Road
    My Name is Emmett Till
    Wheels
    Luxury Liner (Gram Parsons cover)
    Together Again
    I Was Born to Run

Don did a good show with an interesting set list. Loved to hear him doing Funky Stuff and couldn't get that song out of my head for days.
Someone threw their bra up onto the stage and it was hanging by Don's microphone for a while. Then he picked it up and was waving it around. Bet it's been a while since anyone threw underwear at him.

There has been a bit of discussion about Don's guitar players and who would be with him for these shows. As you'll know by now Don had Steuart Smith and Peter Thorn. Steuart is excellent, of course, and Peter played very well too. I'm getting to like him playing with Don and he certainly gives it his all.

Will Hollis - what can I say? he played great and looked beautiful. When he went over to the piano and played 'It don't matter to the Sun' I was in ecstacy. Will's clear and beautiful piano introduction was amazing - I closed my eyes as it floated around the Bowl....Heaven on earth! Will also seems to enjoy a bit of funky music; during 'Funky Stuff' he was really getting into it!

Liked the Santa Barbara Bowl - being a small bowl, it made quite an intimate setting for the show.

Our seats were row 3 on Will's side, but as we were on the end of the row we didn't have anyone in front of us. Camera's weren't allowed for the first half or so of the show; after that they let us go right up to the stage(I was leaning on the stage right in front of Will) and we were then allowed to take photo's. That's the nearest I've ever been to Will - and if I loved him before, I love him a million times more now.

Don was quite chatty between the songs. Hearing him sing with Emmylou was great, although my friend and I thought afterwards that there were better songs they could have done together than 'Too Far Gone'. I suggested 'Together Again' would have been a very good choice. Never mind though, I'm not really complaining.

Overall it was an amazing show and I'm so glad I went.

You sly thing, never saying a word until now! I'm so glad you had such a great time! I would have loved to hear Don and Emmylou sing together. I hope a recording of this surfaces. So did you get some photos?
