    Default Brooks, CA 12/02/11

Back from seeing Timothy last night - definitely an enjoyable show! And he had merchandise to boot! I am now the proud owner of an "Expando" T-shirt. I also bought another copy of the album - hey, support the artist!

PLS and I got there about a half an hour before the show only to discover that the place where he was playing was kind of a lounge where there were lots of tables and only a small open area in front of the stage. Most of the tables were either filled or reserved, so instead of being at the stage, PLS and I found ourselves at a table off to the side. I'm not good at estimating distance, but I imagine it was the equivalent of being about sixth row or so.

I was disappointed, but I knew I would enjoy myself anyway. Also, I hoped perhaps someone would stage rush and a few of us at least could stand up front, but no one did. So, I stayed at my table with PLS, sipped a cosmo, and sat back to enjoy the show.

Timothy had requested that the event be non-smoking; apparently he's very sensitive to cigarette smoke. Interesting considering his profession!

The room was pretty full, so the crowd was a decent size. Apparently some of Timothy's old bandmates were in the audience since this place was fairly close to his hometown of Sacramento.

Timothy came out to great applause. He was wearing a white shirt with a brown vest and dark brown pants. He commented as he came to the mike that it was hard for him to walk through the casino because of all the cigarette smoke. Welcome to my world, Tim - I don't smoke or gamble, yet over the past few months, I have had to go to SIX different casinos to see various Eagles play!

He seemed a bit taken aback that there was no one at the stage and said that he should play smaller venues so that he could see people's faces and "connect" with them. I wanted so badly to go up at that point but I wasn't brave enough, and apparently no one else was either!

So, when I saw that people weren't going to go up to the stage, I positioned myself to get a good view of Tim from my table and rocked out in my chair. He sounded great, never missing a note with that pure voice. I gave him standing ovations for "I Can't Tell You Why," "Parachute," and "Secular Praise."

He chatted briefly between songs but didn't talk an awful lot. Usually, songs would get a one-line intro. For instance, "This is a love song" before "Ella Jean" and "What night is this?" before "Friday Night."

Although I knew we weren't supposed to take photos, I snuck out my camera, figuring I would just take one at an opportune moment. Then, I noticed a screen above me and thought I might even sneak a video of one of the songs, like I did for "Parachute" back in Chicago. Because I didn't want to stress about it, I decided I would just record one song and take one picture. I held my camera in my lap and waited for the right time. However, I was cosmically punished for my insolence!

As Tim was doing "White Boy from Sacramento," I dropped my camera! It was dark, the carpet was dark gray, and my camera is black. I couldn't find it anywhere. I spent the rest of the song bending over and peering at the floor, looking all around my chair to no avail. Obviously, it had flown further away somehow. It's a nice camera and I couldn't just leave it on the floor - what if someone stepped on it? So, as Tim moved on to "Keep on Tryin'", I got down on my hands and knees and felt around for my camera on that nasty casino carpet. As the song ended, I finally found it, thank God!

I got back into my chair just as Tim was saying how much fun it was singing and playing with his backing band and how he felt so lucky to be able to do this for a living. I too felt pretty lucky then since I had my camera back, but I also knew I wanted to get my video/photo quick so I could put that sucker away.

I wound up getting a video of "Downtime." I filmed the screen so it's pretty darn good, if I do say so myself! I'll put it up later. The only photo I got sucked, though - sorry guys! I just don't have the magic touch when it comes to photography. Oh well. We saw a professional photographer take a few photos so perhaps those will be posted on the internet.

Finally, Tim said his goodbyes before the encore. I couldn't take it anymore - I rushed the stage. To my delight, after I did so, about twenty other people joined me! If only I had done so earlier! Timothy actually said to us, "That's right, come on up!" when he saw us. Oh well, lesson learned - stage rush at the outset!

Thanks to that burst of bravery, I got to hear Tim's terrific arrangement of "I Don't Want to Hear Any More" and "Love Will Keep Us Alive" up close and personal, center stage, right at his feet. Wonderful!!!!

After he left, I hovered around hoping for the setlist. Hank came out and handed me one. I told him that I'd seen him play with Timothy in Chicago a couple years back and that it was a terrific show, as was this one. He thanked me and also gave PLS a pick. What a nice guy!

And so, with this show, my epic Eagles concert journeys come to an end... for this year at least!

Ooooh, sounds like Timothy was in great form last night Soda. I love the sons he chose to sing, and also the warm way in which he greeted you when you DID make a move to the front of the stage. I'm so glad you had a good night and that your camera wasn't lost or broken. I'm looking forward to seeing your picture and video.

Great that you got some memorabilia and the set list and that PLS got the pick.

And I salute you...... four solo Eagle gigs and the full thing in Vegas in the space of months. You really are a dedicated fan!

As good as your review is (they always are) the camera incident overshadows everything else! I read out loud to Hubby and we both said you are like this generation's Lucille Ball! What a visual that was of you crawling around on the floor during Timothy's show looking for your camera! You are something else Sodascouts, and I mean that in a very good way.

So it sounds like except for not having having a great spot at the stage for the whole show, it turned out pretty good, huh?

Sounds like a great show--of course it would be tho! He's just so darn sweet all the time!! Just loves and APPRECIATES his fans and tries to prove it every chance he gets.

Can't wait to see the video and will you take a picture of the setlist and post it? I know it's silly but just would love to see it. Happy for you but awfully jealous!

I can't even begin to tell you how excited and happy I am for your accomplishment. WOW---not many, if any, that can say they've accomplished in so few months, what you pulled off!! You are the Eagle Concert Queen!!

Wow, that sure sounds like a great show. I'm so glad you got to see the end up close! Do they actually allow smoking in these places? Here in NY, you cannot smoke in any bar, restaurant, or even in the park. Our Mayor has banned smoking from almost everywhere. Sounds like Timothy had a great show. I sure am jealous because I have yet to see one his solo shows.
Oh, & Congratulations, Sodascouts for making it to all 4 solo shows & the Eagles concert. That's quite an accomplishment....You really are one devoted fan!!

Can't wait to see your video & picture & so happy that you found that camera!
Glad you had a great night

Glad you enjoyed the review, guys!

I feel very fortunate that my job affords me the time and money to go to these gigs. There are lots of fans just as dedicated as I am who just don't have the means or opportunity to do what I got to do these past few months, and I know how lucky I am!

    Aw, thanks! lol

Oh, yes. In fact, I wished as I left I could go to another show! However, as good as this show was, the Chicago show was definitely superior - probably because he had such an adoring audience to play off of!

Soda, are we going to see a new signature picture celebrating your big accomplishment? I hope so. If I knew how, I'd make one!

Yep - I'm really sorry I missed this. I've been to quite a few shows with Soda, but I'm thinking that must have been quite a sight to watch her crawling around the floor in the middle of Tim's performance. I wonder if he saw that!

Excellent point, WE! I hadn't thought about it like that, but you are right on!

Thanks for the great review, Soda. The visual I have in my head of you on all fours looking for the camera is hysterical. Wish I could have been there to see it! Congratulations on the Royal Flush. I'm one Eagle short in 2011 so I guess I only have a straight flush. I bow to the master! The deck of cards I got in Vegas at the ILAA party is on it's way to you tomorrow.
