I revisted some reviews and I like this one. It's a mixed review but thoughtful, explaining what works for the writer and what doesn't. I may not feel the same about it all, but it gets me thinking and listening more carefully.

Thank you, UTW! I don't remember this review, so it was a good read. I especially like the very last line. It would be very welcome indeed.

His appeal is in injecting a taste of rural authenticity into mostly stoic readings of simpler, heartfelt songs from the heartland. The ones on After Hours that fit that description are beautifully done. A sequel full of those would be welcome.

But the 'rural authenticity' part is puzzling. Glenn is a city boy & always has been so it seemed natural to me that he'd want to do a couple of those loungey, supper club numbers which receive the most criticism. I actually thought he gave his best performances on those songs rather than more obvious tracks like Worried Mind. The part about his pronunciation of certain words such as 'my' and 'your' has merit, I suppose. Ultimately however he couldn't sound like anyone except himself. Another correction is that this album preceded McCartney's effort (which I never bought because I hated the title).

Glenn goes back and forth on the accent he uses. Sometimes it's a mid-western twang and there's times he can sound Southern or 'rural'. Other times he has no accent at all. In some of these songs, he uses the same pronunciations that the original singer used. This reviewer thinks that Streisand was 'the one' to sing Here's To Life, so he obviously did a YouTube search as his background information and went no further.

McCartney's album was released here in the US on 2/14/12, before Glenn's.

OK, thanks. I could have sworn McCartney's album came out later.

No, I remember wondering if Glenn was deliberately late with his so they wouldn't come out near the same time, and Glenn had said Feb. back during the solo shows in August, I think. I wasn't at those shows

I'm not positive McCartney's was 2/14. It was whatever Tuesday was closest to Valentine's Day.

I've got to say I love After Hours. The songs, the arrangements and Glenn's voice are all impeccable but it has somehow stopped me listening to Glenn's earlier material.

I didn't realise it until I pulled out a few early Frey solo tracks to add to my playlist and realised I hadn't listened to them in years.

I'm so pleased the title track finally got an official release. After Hours has always been one of my favourite Frey/Tempchin tracks.

In one of the promotional interviews, Glenn mentioned Sam Cooke and he included a song called "I'll Come Running Back to You" in his 2006 tour. I'm guessing this was a contender for After Hours:
