I love how you say so casually 'Wade the bassist'..... you're an insider!

HH, thank you for those. I am a sucker for the 'hand on mic' photos.
LOL! It was hard to avoid learning everything about his stand-up electric bass, if you get my drift! He was explaining in great detail how the first time he had to play it in a show, he had to learn it in a matter of hours. Of course, he was experienced in other stringed instruments, but there still must have been a little pressure there...

Yes, it was only due to the gentle nagging of our honey Jesse that I even felt guilted into getting up and leaving at all! It was tough to find a break in the action, but it was the right thing to do. I was home by 1 am, and only a half-hour late for work Friday...which for all intensive purposes, wasn't late in my book! I hope the group carried on valiantly without me. Certainly sounds like breakfast was smashing!

Seeing the stand up bass reminds me of walking into Fallsview Casino, seeing it, and thinking 'what's this for'?! I soon found out.

The Buffalo Springfield song was originally sung by Richie Furay on the album and Glenn's version was totally faithful to that one, but there is an acoustic version on CSN&Y's FOUR WAY STREET album with just vocals and acoustic guitars that's really neat. Neil Young sounded more earnest singing it than Furay ever did, to my ears.
SS, at other shows, he said that was sung by Richie Furay, but Neil Young wrote it, then left Buffalo Springfield before the record was finished.

I know Soda will put up a more detailed review when she gets a chance, and EV already gave some highlights of this show. The setlist was the same as the others, and it was after Tequila Sunrise that he spoke to the audience for the first time. He was smiling and in a great mood and with a grin he said, "Hey I'm freakin' out." Soda told me later it's something Joe used to say all the time. It set the tone for the rest of the evening, the crowd was into it. They all laughed at the Dead Sea being only sick joke that he said before Lyin' Eyes.

He said that the first time he'd heard Route 66 it was the Rolling Stones version, which surprised me.

Either the crowd was into anything he did, or as time passes the crowds are more familiar with the After Hours CD. Route 66 got good applause at every show, but here, Sentimental Reasons got even more applause and it didn't at other shows, even though he sang it to perfection at every show.

For Shadow of Your Smile, he mentioned that it won a grammy and an Oscar for best song. He brings such emotion to this song as he sings it. I liked it when it was a song on the CD and I could feel the passion behind it there, but having seen him sing it live, when I listen to the CD now I feel it even more.

After the band intros and before The Look of Love, he forgot to get the 'sticks'. I don't know what they're supposed to be called. He got them and returned to the mic and smiled. "There's gonna be a big moment for me later in the song." Is everyone out there sick and tired of me saying how much I love this song and how wonderfully he sings it?

The crowd around me seemed to enjoy the rearranged version of The Heat Is On, but I think they were caught by surprise by the slower version of Smuggler's Blues. They enjoyed it, but not as much as THIO.

Before Who's Been Sleeping In My Bed, he made the comment that the next song was on a record he did for MCA, Music Cemetery of America, which got a good laugh. I love the way they do this song live, and I love the growly voice and the powerful ending.

Before You Belong To The City, he said he'd do one more song. It was from his checkered past, the days of vice and noses. At least, I think that's what he said.

When he came out for the first encore, the applause kept me from hearing exactly what he said. I hope some of the others caught it. He was angled away from me so I couldn't even read his lips to help me out. The words I caught were, "Thank you, thank you so very much." Then something I couldn't hear, then, "The way I'm feeling right now... Words fail me." It was very sweet and he was obviously sincere, and the crowd loved it.

As we all discussed in the After Hours After Party, it's just amazing when you think back over the concert that the same man who delivered songs like Sentimental Reasons and The Shadow of Your Smile with a pure voice was the same man who growled out Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed just perfectly. There's not many artists that would even attempt such diversity let alone pull it off.

I was thinking about this, one reason people like groups with multiple lead singers like the Eagles is because there's then a variety of voices and styles. You don't get a concert that's all the same. With Glenn as a solo artist, you don't get a concert that's all the same. He goes out there and doesn't stay in a comfortable groove for 90+ minutes. He gives it all he's got.

IF I do LA, and its a big IF still I will velcro my a$$ to a plane seat which I will leave at 7:30 am the morning I arrive home in Dublin..... and will have to be at work by 8:50am.... right across the city.

Verna, you did a great job remembering bits of Glenn's banter. You're correct on the "days of vice and noses" line before You Belong to the City. I thought that was cute. For The Look of Love, the instrument was kind of like castanets on a stick, but I don't really know what they're called. I loved watching him time himself to come in for his "big moments." That song was simply overflowing in awesomeness . Unfortunately, your reminder of his being at a loss for words at the encore is still keeping me in the dark as to why...I also hope someone else remembers. It's really bugging me!
The other thing I do remember is that whenever a particularly loud audience member would yell something out, Glenn would shout out some response along the lines of "Aw, thanks, Uncle Bob," or "That's enough, Uncle Bob," --whatever the case may be!

(This is the only part of the reference I didn't get...can anyone enlighten me??) Anyway, he went on to say that back in those days, when they had Max's Kansas City and CBGB's in NYC, there was a famous venue in NJ called the Capitol Theater in Passaic. (An aside from 'moi'–the Capitol was a concert hall in the 70's and 80's that featured legendary performances by a host of major musicians–the Boss, Grateful Dead, and more. Apparently, the house video system produced quite a few high-quality B&W concert bootlegs back in the day.) Glenn said that when the Eagles played the Capitol, he can remember a bunch of young guys in Pendleton shirts (I'm assuming preppy?) who yelled out, "Tell us about the desert!" He shouted back to them something to the effect of, "I can't tell you about it. There's nothing to say...you just have to be there!"
Thanks, EV. I just found out something crazy as I was looking over This Day in Eagles History... the Eagles shows in Passaic were on May 18, 1973 (the date he was referring to) and May 19, 1974. How cool is that - both days immediately after this Englewood show!

I hear this all the time too and this is exactly what it means. It has nothing to do with Glenn's unfortunate experience in Columbus, which I imagine he would be extremely reticent to mention and not consider a positive! Besides, since that incident happened in 1973, he obviously could get literally arrested at that time.
