Discussion of Eagles Documentary "History of the Eagles"

Ha ha! So do I! And whenever anything new occurs I always say to myself, 'Time passes, things change' and I hear Don's deep voice and see the little smirk and twinkle in his eye. It's amazing how appropriate that line is to many situations! lol

By the time Hotel California came along it was pretty much Don singing most of the songs. Glenn, Randy and Joe each had one and the rest were Don's. Glenn had always had several songs on every album and Randy always had 1 - 2. The early albums (which are my favorites) have a couple songs of everyone on each of the albums. These are my favorite because you got the unique sound of each member on all the albums. Bernie and Randy had such good voices and both of them harmonized so well. I think On The Border is so overlooked, this is probably at the top of my favorites along with Desperado. Such a great variety of songs and voices. I just love it.

I often think of "Time passes, things change" now in certain applicable situations (and I agree that there are many). It makes me chuckle that one of the most memorable lines is actually Don quoting JD Souther.

Yep - "I guess" sticks with me a lot. Everytime I hear it, I think of the doc. I also like it when Tim says from his experiences every rock and roll band is always on the verge of breaking up. I'm sure he didn't mean that literally, but it does make you realize how volitile things can become in bands.

Whenever you hear the last two notes of Those Shoes, do you expect Rose of Cimarron to immediately follow?? I was watching some youtube videos of recent shows posted in the Eagles Videos thread, and right when TS ends and the lights go out, I'm expecting those country-sounding notes to follow!!

Perhaps a couple more guitar duels would have eased some of the tension & there would have been less of a shift to long Henley ballads.

I definitely would have rather had more of songs like Already Gone, James Dean, Life In The Fast Lane, Victim Of Love, Hotel California, Those Shoes, Heartache Tonight, heck even The Long Run - than the ballads... I feel like Joe and DF could have done a lot more iconic guitar parts than just HC if the songs were designed for it.... They might not have surpassed their previous stuff but they could have done more of it. When you have the yin and yang of guitarists from two different approaches they play off of each other, and IMO that's better served on songs like LITFL or HC than songs like Wasted Time.... Not that I don't like that song, but I wish there had been a few more rockers in the HC/Long Run era. The Long Run IMO was a lot of filler. Hotel California and prior had very little.

It's a shame that those two can't work together outside of the Eagles camp... Maybe they can after HOTE tour and if they do end up retiring. But I think that will never happen while Joe's in the Eagles, and Don Felder is out. Not that I think the wrath would come down on Joe for it, but I don't see Joe as the type to want to potentially ruffle feathers, both the members of the band and Don Felder himself for that matter.

After watching HOTE I was very disappointed with how much time was given to Glenn and Don but very little to the other members of the band. I have never been a big Glenn fan but always loved Tequila Sunrise. After sitting in traffic and listening to Tequila sunrise I came up with my own lyrics. Sing along:

Stealin money from the guys
The cash piles high
Tim and Joe are hired hands
