Oooh, he's supposed to be performing with local orchestras when he comes Down Under...

And speaking of shopping for concert outfits... I wouldn't have a clue what to wear. Okay, it doesn't help that I don't know anything about venues but still... anybody have any suggestions on things that have worked or that you've wished you hadn't worn?

I wore a sundress with a little denim jacket to LA. The jacket spent most of the evening on my chair!

I normally wear jeans & tour T shirts. I will be wearing the two After Hours shirts I got in LA in Brisbane & Melbourne. I would like to 'dress up' for the Opera House but I'm not sure what the point of that is. I don't get to dress up these days as I no longer work so buying clothes for this would seem an extravagance especially as I also have to buy flights & hotel rooms. I prefer to be comfortable. The fact is when I go to the Opera House it is by train so you can't dress up anyway.

I can't say there has ever been an outfit I wish I hadn't worn, because as you may have guessed, clothes aren't very important to me these days.

For me, dressing for concerts is dressing for an occasion. Not that I wear formal dresses, but I don't wear old jeans and T-shirts either. The most important thing to me is that it should have some flare... and look good on me, lol.

If I wear jeans, they will be nice ones - no rips, no grunge. I will be wearing nice shoes with them, typically boots or heels - no sneakers/trainers/tennis shoes (heels also make you taller, the better to see over people if standing). The top will have a striking design, color, and/or cut - no T-shirts or old tank tops allowed! If I'm in all black, then I need some striking jewelry. For me, there needs to be something about my outfit that says "I'm going someplace special tonight." These are for the outdoor concerts, typically. Casual with a difference.

Outfits that are good for both indoor and outdoor are slacks or fitted pants (in the American sense, not underwear lol) with a flowing and/or blouse-y top. Tight tops that aren't too casual can also work, but usually are not quite as comfortable, for me anyway. I like to pick something perhaps with a bit of lace or sparkle and with a flattering neckline - again, something that gives it a bit of flare.

I save the skirts and dresses for indoor, typically. If you wear a skirt, make sure it's not too formal. The fabric should be light. Avoid skirts with lining. A good length is typically at the knee or a bit shorter (not shorter than mid-thigh or you might look a little hoochie). My personal favorite indoor concert outfit is a casual sundress. You can dress it up with heels and a bit of jewelry, and look nice without being overdressed. Sometimes at casino shows I'll wear a dress that's a little nicer, but it depends on the casino. Likewise, if I were going to the Sydney Opera House, I would wear a nice dress. Not a formal or anything, but not casual.

That's the way I roll, at least!

BTW, there is definitely one outfit I wish I hadn't worn. I had bought a blue silky top the day prior to a concert which looked great in the mirror in the store. Unfortunately, when I put it on before the concert, it looked awful with the nice jeans I was wearing (the jeans made a visible ridge through the thin material which completely ruined the flow of the top, causing the top to bunch and making me look fat). It was too late to change, though, because I was on a trip and working from a suitcase. I guess the lesson there is to always make sure you try out your outfit as a piece BEFORE it's time to go!

ETA: All bets are off if it's an outdoor festival like JazzFest. You'll be all sweaty and nasty anyway - ripped up jeans and old T-shirts are perfectly fine!

Ok , for me...its always tough...
I dont feel my age but at the same time ....I dont wanna be in a pair of jeans and "just a t-shirt " cause I 'm not 16 any more. Those days are gone.

I always felt like since I was going to a concert , jeans were ok, but like soda says not grungy jeans...
For us a lot of times we wind up at the Borgata on A sat nite and I think people tend to get a little dressy there .

I really like to be comfy..low shoes but not sneaks
Sodas right, a sun dress can be dress up or down.

for me its weird caues I live in scrubs. going out tonight and I am in scrub pants with a long sleeve shirt. I dont think I'm gonna change..takes too much time lol
SO bottome line..you have to be comfy and feel good in what you have on or forget it.
    have fun

Ps...one time I went to a church affair in a denim skirt and a v neck tye dye shirt with pretty sandles . I felt great..the clothes were so me...JAHH said" Are youa freeze dried hippy??" ...but the priest said."wow you look great...happy and healthy." SO I guess my point is if you go feeling good about what you have on..it projects and nothing else matters.

I never dress up anyway, so it's always jeans and concert shirts for me. I'm also heavily tattooed and a metalhead. So I always look out of place when I go to Eagles concerts. I wore my Metallica concert shirt to the Borgata. I get a kick out of people staring at me like I don't belong there. And then I sing every song, and that shuts them up. Lol.

Well - I'm not a jeans person only because I don't like the way they look on me. Of course, they look great on the Eagles, so I prefer that they wear them even if I don't. If I'm going to an outdoor show, I tend to dress down. I'll usually wear casual pants or capris and a tee shirt. In indoor arenas, I'll wear casual pants or capris and a casual blouse or shirt. However, if it is a casino or theatre, I dress it up a bit more - usually dress pants and a dressier blouse. I broke my foot about 12 years ago and had to have a metal plate surgically inserted, so I can't wear heals of any kind anymore, which is a bomber since I am very short. And since I don't like most dresses without heals, I tend to avoid them.

I've never been big on dressing up for concerts. In my younger days, when I went to several concerts a month, wearing clothes and shoes you cared about was never a good idea. Even at the Revel last month, sitting in the second row, sandals would have been a horrid idea, I had to take my boots to get them professionally cleaned to get off the sticky drinks that spilled from the drunks in the front row.

I did dress up more for Glenn's solo concerts. The type of music and venues seemed to call for it. What I had planned to wear to his concert here in DC got changed at the last minute because of the weather, it was pouring rain. It was an indoor venue, but there was a lot of walking to do and coming home, in order to get to my house, I did have to get out in the rain and move a huge branch off the road! (I always keep extra clothes in my truck, but not my car.) For the ones in NYC and Englewood, because I had to travel for hours, I had to wear something comfortable and that wouldn't wrinkle when sitting in a car or train. With the amount of hours I work, I wasn't about to put too much thought into it, and going shopping is something I consider to be a form of torture (unless it's Home Depot!).

For the Town Hall show in NYC you should have worn a wet suit and flippers! Remember the torrential rain coming back to my house from the train station. Nasty -- but seeing Glenn's first AH solo show made it very worthwhile!

OK. I'm trying to picture his reaction to a wetsuit and flippers. Let alone the rest of the crowd!

I should say that for most concerts I wear tshirts that say Steelers, Penguins, or Pirates, because 80% of the tops I own that are not worn for work are Black and Gold. When I go to Saturday service, I even wear them to church.
