    Default Favorite Rock'n'Roll Christmas Songs

I thought I'd put this in a thread of it's own since I didn't see one specifically for Christmas songs. One of our local rock'n'roll radio station dj's had a write-up in one of our local magazines this week about the "Rock'n'Roll 12 Songs of Christmas on the Radio". He said he comprised this list based on "sales and an unofficial survey of requests I have remembered over the years at Christmas". So here it is ...

    12. Santa Claus and His Old Lady - Cheech and Chong
    11. Snoppy's Christmas - The Royal Guardsmen
    10. Run Rudolph Run - Chuck Berry
    9. White Christmas - Drifters
    8. Jingle Bell Rock - Bobby Helmes
    7. Phil Spector's Christmas Album - Darlene Love/Ronettes
    6. Happy Xmas (War Is Over) - John Lennon
    5. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer - Gene Autry
    4. Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee
    3. Frosty the Snowman - Ronettes
    2. Please Come Home for Christmas - Eagles*
    1. Blue Christmas - Elvis Presley

    * Here is what he wrote - "Oh my! Talk about fighting off those Christmas blues! In 1960, Charles Brown, along with a great guitar solo, put this song into the Christmas catalog forever. Unfortunately, after the Eagles covered it, most people never remember Charles Brown's version. Bon Jovi has a great cover version too, but it's the Eagles version that people know and love best."

"People don't run out of dreams: People just run out of time ..."

    I only have a couple:

Fairytale Of New York - the Pogues with Kirsty MacColl
    2000 Miles - Pretenders
    Merry Xmas Everybody - Slade
Happy Xmas (War Is Over - John Lennon (with reservations)
I Believe In Father Christmas - Greg Lake

I'm sorry, but PCHFC does precisely nothing for me.

My mother just loves the Drifters version of White Christmas and complained that she never heard it any more. I got it on an anthology CD and so she listens to it alot when she visits. Not sure I would put it in the Rock and Roll category.

Oh, and Stevie Nicks 'Silent Night', Springteen's 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town', and Seger's 'Little Drummer Boy' is missing from this guy's list!

Here are some of my favorites. Now let me say these are NOT songs you want to sing caroling, they are somewhat naughty Christmas songs but are about Christmas.

    Blue Christmas - Aerosmith
    Mistress For Christmas - AC/DC
Run Rudolph Run - Keith Richards/Chuck Berry
Please Come Home For Christmas - Eagles

As I said in the Christmas Season thread, my personal fave rock'n'roll Christmas song is "Last Christmas" by Wham:
