last night one of our cats tried to push the catflap open with her paw but because it wouldn't stay open and kept coming back at her she hissed at it

That's cute, MF. It kinda reminds me of my Smuggler. He has a pet door that has hard, thick, plastic flaps. Here recently when the weather has been so cold, he can't decide if he wants to be indoors or out. So he just lays at the pet door and pushes the flap open with his snout letting the cold air in. Even though he's very cute lying there in uncertainty, I'm like - umm, I don't think so, buddy ... either in or out!
