    Default The Doors

I have to say that The Doors are my second favvie band of all time!!!!!! They are so amazing and Jim Morrison has always had that hypnotic voice. I love all of their songs, but Love Street is my favvie song from them. I was raised on listening to The Doors as well as the Eagles. LOL so I will say that I love love psychedelic music to the max. Jim Morrison is my second favourite singer of all time and it's so funny that him and I share a birthday (December 8th). I love that. LOL

You came along and changed my life Glenn!!

My favorite Doors song is "Indian Summer" My favorite albums are Strange Days and L.A. Woman. I like their unreleased film Feast Of Friends and I especially like Jim Morrison's unreleased film HWY: An American Pastoral

LOL I haven't seen those films yet. I need to here soon. I have one of their concerts from '68 and just loving it like crazy. The Strange Days album is too awesome.

The Doors were, for a couple of important times in my life, my favourite band. In fact, I actually abandoned Christianity to worship at the altar of Jim Morrison, and I am still, to this day, paying for that ill-advised decision. It's hard to put into words how much their music encapsulated my late-teen years and some of the most difficult times of my life. When I was 15, my mind was utterly blown when I first heard "The End" in full. Their music is so infectious that I have to keep a good bit of distance from their music and their scenes for fear of my getting sucked back into that mind-warping vortex(Morrison-worshipping cult fandom is a REALLY dark, strange place). They're really a band like no other, for both good and bad reasons.

"The Soft Parade," regarded within their catalogue the way "The Long Run" is with the Eagles, is actually my favourite album of theirs. All their albums meld together some interesting sounds, but this one really grabbed me from those first horn blasts. I love how they experimented with horns, psychedelic music, and indian sounds. Beyond the first 2 minutes, though, I am not enamoured of the album's carnival-themed title track.

    Selected favourites...

That was the first band I heard in middle school, my first favorite band. I'm sure it helped exacerbate my rebellious behavior.

Scarlet Sun, I admired your musical knowledge before I knew you're a Doors fan, but now I dig you even more. I've been a Doors fan since I was 14. Hard to pick a favorite song, but I lean toward "Break On Through." Favorite album is "Waiting for the Sun."

If any Doors fans happen to wander into the Hard Rock on Hollywood Boulevard, they have Jim's brown leather trousers and his hand-written lyrics to "L.A. Woman."

The image of Jim shown alongside the brown pants is a snakeskin suit, not leather. The brown leather pants are what Jim wore at the Hollywood Bowl concert in 1968.

    Sorry about the glare

One of the earliest recordings of The Doors will be released on December 9th (the day *after* Jim's birthday - OK), a set of seven songs played at the London Fog, a Sunset Strip club back in the day, in May 1966.

Pretty neat, pretty good - and pretty darn expensive:

Today would have been Jim's 73rd birthday. Happy birthday in heaven to my fellow Sagittarius, "the most philosophical of all the signs" to quote the great man himself (of course, he went on to say about astrology, "Personally, I think it's all a bunch of bullshit, myself.").

The above is a photograph by Michael Ochs, who also photographed the Eagles circa 76-77

Oh, man! Those darn lucky Angelenos get to experience the Day of the Doors today, which marks 50 years since the release of the band's debut album:

To coincide with The Doors' 50th anniversary, today (January 4) will be declared “Day Of The Doors” in the city of Los Angeles! The proclamation will be made this afternoon by Councilmember Mike Bonin during a public event at the intersection of Pacific and Windward Avenues in Venice, CA, the location of the iconic “Venice” sign. Doors members John Densmore and Robby Krieger will be on hand at the event as will family members of the late Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison. Please join the celebration today at 4:30pm. If you are unable to attend the ceremony, you may live stream the event on The Doors official Facebook page.
