It's a perfect occupation for me.
Assuming the prices are the same as the July shows for VIP, the difference between that 2 to 3 feet of space will be $270, which is why I went for second row in DC. Of course, you need to get into the presale right at 10am to guarantee 2nd row, otherwise you could end up further back.

I have seen them once from the second row, dead center, and I can tell you, if at all possible, you need to see them this close at least once. Warning, though. Once you've done it, you'll always want it that way.
The second closest I've got was 5th row, Joe side, and even though its only 3 rows difference, it's like another world being in the 1st/ 2nd row.

A chance to get in on the ESPN presale for this show on Friday, as well as to enter to win tickets.

Yeah, TBF's right. Compared to, say, Indianapolis, where you can walk around the neighborhood before the show, stop at a bar, have a drink, stop at another bar, have another drink, the United Center is off to itself in a not so desirable part of town.
Quick story- Back in 2002 we stayed in downtown Chicago at the Omni and took a cab to the United Center to see Paul McCartney, thinking there would be all kinds of cabs around after the show to get a ride back, right? WRONG!!! There was one unsavory looking fellow offering to hail a cab for you, but we steered clear and just kept walking in the general direction of our hotel. Soon we were the only ones out on the street in a creepy part of town. At one point I thought we would end up walking all the way back to the hotel! Finally a cab going the opposite direction saw us flagging him down, did a U-turn and picked us up. Since then we've always driven our own car to the United Center.
