nah those are definitely iron on denim patches... he could've done it himself, but since it was the style at the time too, they could've come that way. Glenn had jeans with patches too...

Don's are definitely iron on patches. Glenn's look like they are sewed on. I used to patch my husband's jeans for work, but he never wore them anywhere else!
