Yes! WMMS!! The Buzzard!

Funny thing is, one of my earlier rock memories is hearing Joe Walsh on MMS between songs. You know, the way radio stations have the artists say a few words before a song; something like "This is NAME from BAND and your listening to STATION."

Well, I remember two from Joe, and not a single one from anybody else. The one that really made stop and take notice went something like:

"Hi, this is Joe Walsh and your listening to WMMS. Always remember, WMMS backwards is SSSSSMMMMMMMMWWWWW [sounded out in long draw-out fashion]."

I don't know exactly why, but I heard that and thought to myself: man, that guy is just cool! ()

You may have already read it, but there is a book about WMMS called The Buzzard: Inside the Glory Days of WMMS and Cleveland Rock Radio. It's a fun read by John Gorman, who I think used to be the program director there. I think it came out about 6 years ago.
