Don Felder delivered a fantastic set at Saratoga, Ca.'s Mountain Winery last night. From opener "Hotel California" (he wrote the music to that iconic tune) to rousing closer "Life In The Fast Lane," the former Eagle truly soared, electrifying the crowd. And his own tunes, from his new "Road To Forever" album, more than held their own with the Eagles classics. Like James Burton, Felder's guitar work is concise, never overstated, dazzling, yet always serving the song. His lead vocals proved pleasing. And the harmonies from his incredibly tight, all-star band were consistently stirring. The a cappella portions of "Seven Bridges Road" were breathtaking. Other high points came with a spirited "Already Gone" and "Wash Away," Felder's terrific single, which he performed with his co-writer, Styx's Tommy Shaw. Felder still clearly finds making music to be a joyful experience. And the audience rewarded him with multiple standing ovations. If you have a chance to catch Felder live, don't miss it!
