Honestly, anyone over 50 needs to get the shingles vaccine. Listen to those commercials on tv about it, they are true. Shingles are awful.

Soda I hope your Mom is better soon, and Brooke, I hope that your grandson is too! I can't believe your son and d-i-l don't get paid leave to look after a sick kiddie. I was always able to do that and take sick leave too. I never need to now that they are older but it was sure handy when they were younger.

I have never heard of a vaccine for shingles. is it effective. Do you need it if you have had chicken pox as a kid? I know the two are related.

I know, GA. Lots of work places do have paid leave. My mom babysat for me when my kids were little, so she was even available when they were sick most of the time. D-i-l has used up her paid leave this year and son is self employed along with his part time job at UPS.

You definitely need to get the vaccine for shingles if you had chicken pox. That's where they come from.

    From the Mayo Clinic:

To develop shingles, you have to catch chickenpox first, which typically happens in childhood. When you get over chickenpox, the varicella-zoster virus stays in your body, but remains dormant, often for many years and possibly for life. As you age, though, there's an increasing risk that the virus will reactivate, resulting in shingles.

Just a quick note to say hi & that I've been thinking about you all.

Last year was a bit of a roller coaster with losing my job, but I've just had confirmation that I have passed "probation" in my new job at the University (which I am loving!).

This time next week I will be in Melbourne ready to see the boys!

Poblem with the shot for shingles is that the insurance company won't cover it till over age. 60 . It cost aprx 350.00 which is a lot of money for a lot of people.
In our office I have seen patients with it at 22 and when it effects your eyes you can lose your vision
    Bad situation
